It's a fairly rare glitch where the chunk doesn't "understand" how many mobs it has, and then accidentally adds a few 0's to the end, causing an amazing amount of lag.
You can use SPC and /killall, or you can revert to 1.7.3 and back to 1.9pr2.
Does the glitch continue to happen--Like, if I were to manage to kill all of the chickens, would they keep spawning forever? Just curious if my world is dead, or if it was a one time super JUMP of mobs. I've gotten about 200 of them by logging in and out of the game and killing them before the lag starts to happen, but I don't know if there is like a source they will continue to spawn from!
I have a lot invested in this world, that's why I ask. :smile.gif:
I can tell you when this happened to me as well--
Was digging a hole for a gravity trap and turned the game on peaceful to make a few edits. Accidentally fell down the trap myself and died. I was sent back to spawn point(I had destroyed my bed and moved it, and hadn't slept in it yet). As I made my way back to the gravity trap to grab my stuff, incredible lag started to happen. I looked over to my right and there were hundreds of chickens! (there had only been one there before) It seems that during my death/respawn the bug happened.
I've never made a piston in this world. Are there any other items this bug could be related to?
This JUST happened to me with chickens. There are SO MANY EGGS and SO MANY CHICKENS! Holy cow!! This is one of the funniest bugs ever, but it's horrible!
Then don't spam click animals with wheat to farm them.
That is a good point. To be honest, I could have such the BIGGEST wheat farm right now with little to no effort. I could also have a gigantic meat farm with little to no effort.
To make a wheat farm you need a hoe and seeds--that's it. Punch some grass and you have seeds. If you have a farm that's just 5 blocks of wheat, when you harvest them you might have ten seeds or more. If you add more places on your farm, each time you harvest your wheat you get more and more seeds. Honestly after filling 3 boxes full of extra seeds when my farm was as big as I wanted it I just started dumping them out.
If your farm is protected you never even need to use the hoe again, just replant the seed which it almost is guaranteed to give you(and if it doesn't, another plant will give you three anyway)
If you don't want to use bonemeal to grow wheat, all it takes is a little time and nearly 0 resources.
But how many people have wheat farms that take advantage of the possibilities we are given? How big are your wheat fields? I know I have about 50 blocks of wheat, and I only harvest them when I need--there is constantly at LEAST 3 or 4 available if I harvest every time they grow, but usually more like 30-40 are fully grown at any given time with how I play and waste time mining/building.
I could plant every seed I get! The whole valley could be a wheat field! I even have a dungeon right next to my base with skeletons, and of course I turned the dungeon into a mob harvester. So I have unlimited bones. But I don't really mess with that honestly. I still get hungry because I don't always bring enough food with me, or I might forget while playing.
Then of course we have the ultimate ability to have endless mushroom soup--but to be honest, most people barely use it since it takes up so much space. I have only made mushroom soup once--and that was pre 1.8
But that's single player!
In our server, I am the resident farmer/rancher. I have a huge wheat farm I am constantly tending to, I have multiple chicken farms(a few for eggs, one for straight up killing) and I take full advantage of what food can do because we need a lot more. On a server I might spam animals with wheat if I really really need food for a huge adventure we are planning to go on, but most of the time I just replace what I kill(basically keeping the farm at around 4-6 animals(cows/pork), and about 10-20 chickens. Kill a chicken, replace a chicken.
With the animal breeding it will be much more difficult to spam for food(especially when infinite wheat glitch is fixed) if you just sit and spam those 4-6 cows with a ton of wheat, you might end up with a ton of babies..that don't drop anything. Unless you want to sit around and wait forever, you'll probably just get impatient and kill those parents. So you still only end up with 4-6 cows worth of beef, even if you made like 20 babies. Someone might come by and make all those 20 cows have babies, which will still cost more wheat, and more time. If there is an item to insta-grow a baby, it will cost that as a resource as well.
If you build a grinder, YES you will get a freaking TON of food. The same goes for violent mob grinders, or egg farms, or mushroom farms. If you put the work in, the system will reward you. If you don't build an automatic farm and just toss in a bit of wheat and go off adventuring, you get less food. I think as soon as the animals are finished (not nerfed, since this is far from 'finished') it will really be more easy to gauge how much food you really get. I think we get what we put into the system.
If you are clever enough to build a system that will separate adults from the babies and cook them alive when grown for instant cooked food, congrats on the idea and amazing build. It must have taken plenty of resources to make, and you will for sure get plenty of food from it. If you don't really care for farming, and maybe don't even trap them(just grab to wild animals and breed them occasionally) you will get far less food--but also have to do a lot less work and spend way fewer resources!
I think the system adapts well to the amount of food needed! I am a sprinter. I use a lot more food than my boyfriend who prefers to walk and sprint only for jumps. My animal farms are bigger than his for that reason! I also have to spend more time and resources on mine. Our server farm is much bigger than that as well! Each farm works differently and gives us the desired output. You don't HAVE to make the best grinder possible. I certainly never do. I always prefer a little more 'hands on', be it a mushroom farm I physically punch to get rid of the mushrooms, or smaller mob grinders that maybe don't have as much output. They were easy to build and give me as much as I want!
Of course right now I have unlimited food--not because of a farm, but a glitch. Infinite chicken spawn! I have been trying to just kill them since it's my favorite world, and I'm working on my fourth stack of 64 chicken... they show no sign of their numbers declining! Ahh!
Again I echo one of my only concerns with persistent animals and no additional spawns is that eventually the only place you will find animals outside your farm is at the center of the earth at the end of the deepest darkest cave systems.
This is very possible. I found a chicken at bedrock level!
I think there are a lot of fun ideas, but they don't need to be released now. I'd love to have big boats, my server would enjoy ocean adventures where you aren't essentially standing in a bucket. Honestly I'd love items to be made for SMP, like a boat with a passenger area(think in other games like first person shooters, someone drives, and someone shoots). It would be useful in a situation with new violent water mobs, or more additions to fishing or harvesting new ocean materials.
But honestly most of the things I want are just for FUN. Right now there is no real purpose to the ocean, they are more of an obstacle. But water is often an obstacle(psychonauts! Infamous!) and so I don't think that's a problem from a gaming standpoint.
But when the game is fully released and notch releases "themed" updates, I would love an ocean one! :smile.gif:
I used the baby animal mod since I joined these forums. I do love that mod, it let me have little animals which were adorable. I actually remember people complaining on the thread that they were TOO cute(especially since they dropped items! Uhh lambs dropped bones! Haha)
The big headed animals for the legit game is also cute to me, in a funny/adorable way. I think it fits with the goofy side of minecraft perfectly, and I have no problem using it! Animals in minecraft are already PRETTY silly looking, it makes sense that their babies would be silly looking as well!
I assume when the game comes out there will be a mod update that allows the skins to be changed to that baby animal mod, and possibly other versions as well!
I'm kind of excited about the textures that will be made for these funny big headed babies. They are cute in the weirdest way.
To be honest, I'm torn, I may vote for the mod because it IS cuter. But I may vote for Notch's, because think the baby animals already in the game look just fine, and I will probably just use them. I don't have an issue with them, they aren't as 'traditionally cute', they are more 'adorably funny looking' which is a style I like.
Plus, if they stayed that cute as the mod was, I'd never do anything else in minecraft but make animals have babies. In fact, while I had the mod, all I did was collect and farm little baby animals. Seriously. XD
Edit: Honestly, I voted for Notch's. But I wish I could both for both!
I don't think there will be a limit. This is minecraft, not a farming game. Animals don't have ages or lifespans, they won't go infertile with age or with massive breeding. Besides--you can't tell them apart!
Trying to figure out which were the parents and which are a different line of virgin animals and not killing the wrong one would be SUCH a pain in the butt, and with animals not spawning, you could run into trouble if you end up killing off the only fertile animals.
That's too complicated I think, it'll probably stay the way it is, with the new babies adding some time to wait before you have meat! Til then..go fishing or something!
which is indeed a bit of a nerf.
you can't just pay 2 wheat and get 3 meat from them.
It might not be good enough of a nerf in my opinion, but it helps.
Well, you can, it just takes a bit more time. Which is good, I think. It keeps the game simple. The immediately adult born 'babies' was just to test if they could make a mob appear through this method, and now that they know it works and doesn't crash computers(unless you like, spawn thousands of them) they are finalizing it, with baby animals!
Which IS what people wanted, right? :laugh.gif:
Besides, I was so impressed with what people did with the testificate skins(and I actually like them) I can't wait to see what reskins of the baby animals look like. People here are very creative!
Baby animals won't make the game more complicated though--You can still very much breed in mass. Keep going up to the only two adults with wheat and have a horde of babies instead of a horde of adults. Go do something else for a bit(build something, prepare coal for cooking meat, or even go breed a different animal species while you wait) and come back to find all the babies are now adults! Kill, cook, eat, done. It's exactly the same but with an added time element.
Looking over the ingredient list, I can see them being difficult to get. So it's not too bad. I suppose seeing the preview videos where they mixed them up in mass gave me a bad impression. Ghasts aren't exactly something you can access soon, or farm in mass.
Still, I don't think they should be stackable. Food wasn't stackable when it instant healed, neither should potions.
Of course, like you said, Ghast tears aren't really easy to get. Food wasn't stackable when it insta-healed--but it was near infinite! Animals spawned and despawned, wheat was easy, bonemeal made it even faster. With the amount of seeds you get from a wheat farm you have more wheat than you know what to do with after a while.
Ghasts don't really work that way, I doubt people will really be full of dozens of boxes of ghast tears! And if they spend the time and energy hunting so many ghasts...I almost think they deserve getting to stack the potions they do make! :blink.gif: It would be really tough to make them in mass without cheating!
