Yes, it is quite a common design. Nevertheless, nicely done.
Just one piece of advice. You don't need all those repeaters. Powering a wire on a block behind a piston will make it extend. Try it.
I tried that but for some reason when I hit the button the pistons didn't all extend at the same time...and that annoyed me, don't know why but it did. So I thought I would try it with the repeaters and they all went at the same time. Bit weird I guess.
on most machines like this, the creator cant get the water to flow all to one spot so they have to pick up the sugar from 2-4 spots, but in this machine all the sugar goes to one location instead of three or four
ah right..I thought it was quite simple the way I did it.
maybe not, but i post this machine with 100% same design a few days ago
Well sorry if I have stolen your idea but I can promise you that I didn't see your thread seeing as this is the first time I have posted in this section of the forums.
I'm quite good with coming up with buildings and things and I wanted to build it like this, I just had to make the redstone fit around it.
EDIT: it is also probably quite a generic design because of the simplicity of it. Bu tI haven't seen it before in any screen shots or videos. But im guessing alot of people use it.
Right so I have made simple contraptions before...and I'm talking really simple. Stuff like doorbells! ..nooby stuff like that basically.
But today I decided to make a harvester for sugar cane. It harvests 24 at a time but there is no need for replanting.
Here are some pics :smile.gif:
From the front. As you can see it uses two layers of pistons to push the sugar cane...this is because if I used a single layer to push the 2nd cane then some would get stuck on top of the pistons for some reason.
Overhead view. Form here you can see that it is just a very simple desgin. But it works great!
And finally and image showing the inside and the stream that collects the sugar cane. However sometimes bits do get stuck at the back like in this picture.

Also, in your post, you should have said "there aren't any rugs".
I am a grammar nazi I'm afraid.

Just semi auto seeing as I only go and get the sugar when I need it. but it's still cool I think for a first redstone machine

Probably because it is a generic design...but I still did think of it from scratch having not seen anything like it before haha.
But i'm intrigued as to why it is a much better design
