    Now, what about magic crops?

i THINK you can get a magic seed from grass... rarely... maybe? I know i had one in my chests but i don't know how i got it...
if so, then all you need is bonemeal grass and you have magic crops support... can someone confirm that? i don't feel like logging in to make a dark room :)

I still feel that ex nihilo is a great mod... and the best one out there if it comes to skyblock... specially modded skyblock... i'm just not "completely" happy with the way the progression works...
I remember when FTB started... the way slowpoke did it was have a spreadsheet with the modded stuff (back then we had 20-30 mods in a pack so the thing wasn't that large) and then planed out the progression... what can you make with only dirt, stone and wood... what if you add gold... what if you transmute the gold to iron and diamonds... how much opens up when you get redstone... how about copper... and rubber... and so on...
compared to ex nihilo... where you have sapplings to dirt... dirt to organic stuff and stone... stone to almost everything except for a few things that you get with soulsand...

mr crowley knows that i still love his mods to bits... but he's designing a very complex thing here... and when mods come into play... it all starts getting weird... it would prolly work a lot better if it was a tier and tree kinda of progression... and no... i don't have a specific idea in my head... designing something like that usually takes a few hours of brainstorming... but in general a system where you branch out and then progress would be nice... just a quick example... dirt can only give you oak saplings and stones with a small chance of grass seeds... then you have to somehow research (yea i know... too much TC4) more saplings... that way you can get different kinds of saplings... and seeds you can only get by using bones on grass and breaking it... and in case there's seeds or flowers you can't get from that... you have to "research" that too... say how to infuse flowers with magic to get ars magica flowers...
then, later on as you move through the "tree"... you get metal fragments from the stone... and they only yield iron... but eventually you can build some equipment that will sort it into gold (and some mod stuff maybe)... and that let's you make some kind of improved device that lets you identify gem fragments from the metal fragments with a tiny chance... but "steady"...
if you want to get into a specific mod.. like TC... you have to find a way to infuse saplings and stone with magic to move on... (so witch water or something along the lines)

now that's just 5 minutes of thinking about it... but now you have a lot more depth in your system and you keep the people entertained... and give them a chance to eventually automate a lot of the stuff...
downside... it takes almost a complete rewrite of the mod...

but in the end... de gustibus non est disputandum :)

Unfortunately, I have never seen any infused stone or primal shards from the pechs.

maybe it could just be added? It should be as easy as adding it to dungeon loot in case of ex nihilo detecting TC4...
i know it's not as spectacular as all the things we discussed but it's a way to get shards :)
well there's also bees... but magic bees don't spawn yet :(

    edit:
ok, just spent time testing stuff... pech mages give shards...
air, fire, order, water... i assume earth and entropy too... only problem is, getting a pech mage and enough stuff to feed him... but i guess if we get silverwood saplings from dirt now... we can get everything?

Thats neat. I know that silverwood trees are capable of creating a magical forest biome, but how do you create eerie biomes?

wait... do pechs trade you shards? Cause if they do... problem solved... all you need to do is add silverwood to dirt "drop"...

Would it be possible to detect whether IC2/MFR are installed, and if so let one of the sieve recipes create rubber tree seeds? Preferably the IC2 ones, as I believe the MFR version won't work with IC2's recipes, while IC2's works with MFR. Then a player could make their way up to a laser drill, which would let them get the worldgen added by other mods.

it already does that with ic2... i think they come from dirt but they don't look like saplings, like all the other ones... they are seeds :)

ooh... can we also get a c4 version of the paste? a kind of controled demolition that would only destroy the block it's "glued" on to ;P

but that might be something for either a different mod or way later down the road hehe...

so... barrel-crafting? put in an ender pearl to activate the recipe... then some iron and gunpowder and when the barrel is "full"... you light it with a flint and tinder? :)

I really like the sound of that!
I'll probably do something very similar for the next map update.

Unfortunately it could take a few days, because my laptop's SSD malfunctioned and died last night, and I've had to order a new one.

    aww... sorry to hear that...
    rest in pieces, little ssd...

    biomes:
    http://pastebin.com/8dSvLEKu

data taken from biome, FTB wiki...
tried fo format it with code on here but code doesn't like multiple spaces...

so... maybe make all of the biomes 4x4... that gives you a lot of room to play in every biome... and order them like this... you can put ocean in normal/arid... and forest in normal/warm... as for mountain... crowley... can you confirm or deny that rocky bees can spawn anywhere? if so, then there's no need for the extreme hills biome and we can fit them all into this...
if the are needed tho... it can be put into the arid/cold part i guess...

4x4 doesn't have a real center... but it's a nice 64x64 blocks... but i guess 80x80 isn't too bad... since if you start in the middle of that... the farthest you would have to go to find a corner biome is... 40*sqrt(2)... so.. 56 blocks?

I'm not a huge fan of it either, but unless I'm missing something (which is quite likely), so long as bees require specific biomes the only other alternative is to require people to build for hundreds of blocks in order to try to find the right biome for what they need

hm... well... do something "middle of the road"...
about 3x3 or 5x5 in the middle should be one biome... usually that's where people build their base and farming and mob spawner... you don't want your first bucket of water freezing on you... or it not raining in that 1 chunk you put your barrels in...
and then make some sorf ot mini-biomes that make sense...i'll get back to you on that later... off to work... i'm late ^^

Some progress has been made, and I now have a version of the map with at least a 6x6 portion of all the biomes that I am guessing bees need: Plains, Forest, Taiga, Jungle, Swamp, Ice Plains, Ocean, Desert, Extreme Hills. All should be available within 16 blocks of the island.

What I need to know is, are any other biomes needed for full bee integration, or is that enough?

taiga and ice plains... aren't those both for wintry bees?

there's also end and nether bees... those won't spawn in the overworld i guess...

as for magic bees... there's the bees that spawn around glowstone when mining.... the ones arond redstone... and the one around endstone...
in the overworld... one spawns on trees... one in deserts... and one on the ground... they are all "magicky"... there's also that one hive that spawns in the nether i think?

myst doesn't show all the hives in NEI so.. yea :)

also... pet peeve... i dislike 1 chunk size biomes :) it looks so weird when it snows in 1 chunk, rains in the one next to it and nothing in the 3rd one...
sadly, the habitat locator from forestry never became useful... since you already need a bee... and i never found it to be pointing at a biome properly :)

Replace the center ender pearl with an 'ender singularity' which you get by placing another block in the world and blowing it up and that's pretty much what I was thinking.

ooh... will tiny tnt from AE work? :P

Maybe I will try to keep myself away from the keyboard for a few days. Or at least hours. Minutes? Does eating count as a break?
I might have a problem here...

Heh... i know how it is... i remember my first late night coding "session"... i might have been 13 or 14... maybe even younger... i wanted to make a program to analyze lottery drawings... made myself a few cups of coffee... coded all night long :)

when you have to do it as a job... you learn to do it in parts... and usually stop about 30 minutes before it's time to go home... since it's hard to stop in the middle of a function... but sometimes you forget and have fun working overtime going "yea yea... just need to fix this bug..." ;P

and finally... 2 rocky hives... this will take a lot of time when i restart the map... and a lot of seeds... i should prolly go with ic2 melons or pumpkins... forestry wheat farms take too long...

hm... programming detox... that would be interesting...
