I have one more addition: frozen, mineable mammoth meat!
Long before minecraft I had the stupid idea that one could go to siberia and mine mammoths. I think this would be fitting for minecraft, especially if this awesome snow biome suggestion is implemented.
Frozen mammoth blocks would occur within ice, in a shape more or less resembling a drowning mammoth (i guess only the body and the legs would be actual blocks, the trunk will be probably too thin). The blocks can be put into a furnace to make them edible. It should probably cost more coal than just cooking, since the meat has to be un-frozen first.
It might also restore less hunger points than "normal" meat. I read somewhere about people eating mammoth meat, apparently it tastes awful, like "meat which has been too long in the freezer".
No idea about ivory. It should be part of a frozen mammoth, of course. Maybe a block which contains one curled-up tusk? Or a special ice block which will randomly drop ivory?

Especially if it would, like in DF, allow the construction of odd-colored wooden stuff.
