It's good you put in some detail, but I think this is still kind of a wishlist... And dynamic lighting is gonna demolish performance in the end. Imagine a multiplayer game with like 20 people carrying these lanterns.
Hmm I like the idea so far (still looking at it). However like Zippy said I don't think current Minecraft lighting engine can handle dynamic lighting and it would cause major lag: so handheld light isn't an option. Torches should not burn out if this is implemented. Nice pictures but just not the right concepts.
My computer sucks, I probably couldn't play Minecraft if it had dynamic lighting from lanterns, and torches running out would be extremely annoying. No support.
I like the idea, but the main concern I have is that there might be severe problems with performance with dynamic lighting. SPECIALLY on lower-end computers.
It is a shame movable light sources just are not a realistic addition due to performance. It is a shame because lanterns would have been interesting but without movement they become obsolete (glowstone / redstone lamps).
I also like the idea of bees, wax and candles. It is just that I am not sure I can imagine myself down at my hive in Minecraft. They do not to really fit into the game. They just seem too niche, too closed off from the other items in the game. I can’t see how else wax would get used nor can I really see the need for candles. Even if you made torches extinguishable there are already other light sources out there that you can use instead (redstone torches / glowstone / redstone lamps).
The other items suggest here are a little strange. They seem to be adding items for the sake of it.
Copper – Why not use iron?
Rope – Why not string?
Hemp – If you really have to have rope, which you don’t, why not use multiple bits of string or vines?
Oil – Why would you need both oil and a candle?
Overall while movable lights would have been nice, performance means that they will be kept as a mod only item and without that the rest of the idea falls down.
I can run dynamic lighting mods without lag on my old computer, which is almost eight years old and can't even run Half-Life. Something tells me none of you have ever played Minecraft with dynamic lighting.
If the game had this, it would be rated E10+. I'm not even 10 yet...
But that doesn't matter for me. I play alot of M-rated games.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and it already is. Minecraft is rated E10+. The ESRB allows Alcohol use in E and E10+ games. Terraria, for example, has alcohol.
I don't support this suggestion, but I wanted to point out that many people seem to have not done the research. (apologies for tvtropes link)
Yes, it will render every chunk so that you need to wait two hours to make a new world. Great idea!
Also, it will handle them all at once, all the time, making the game run at about 2 FPS on tiny unexplored worlds, and crash on worlds with more then about twenty chunks generated.
I like the idea that villagers should defend themselves.
I would go a step further and say that you should be able to equip any villager with any weapon because if the defenders go down (and the way things are with the zombies now, they won't stand a chance in hell), you can at least equip others to fight. I like the priest being able to cure zombie villagers though. It would be hard to implement though unless they make the change instantaneous. As soon as the sun would come up, it would kill the villager considering how long the transformation takes and this would probably happen 99% of the time.
I think that seems a little extreme. I'd prefer that villagers would punch and/or kick at hostile mobs and players who had hurt them recently when cornered.
Um, no. Just no. Imagine a six year old playing minecraft, drinking alcohol, then doing it in real life, besides, potions are easy enough to make already.
Are you one of those people who are convinced video games are the cause of all shootings? You are, after all, using the same argument. I personally don't support alcohol in Minecraft, but I wouldn't have a problem with the addition of it.
As true as that may be, I'm just glad he actually puts thoughts into his arguments, rather than screaming "no guns no guns no guns no guns..." or "yes guns yes guns yes guns yes guns..." like most people.

I managed to run it without issues on normal render distance with fancy graphics on. Note that the computer is a cheap desktop from the early 00's.

What's that supposed to mean?

Apparently it's rating has gone up since the last time I checked. No, seriously.

What an astounding observation. Did you know there are games from every genre including puzzle games and survival games that contain firearms?

Don't forget Garry's Mod, Cortex Command, Fallout, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and even Scribblenauts. All of those games contain firearms and are popular sandbox games. Did I mention Scribblenauts has the same rating as Minecraft on the Xbox?

Sprinting isn't supposed to be all around better than walking. It's intended to have upsides and downsides.

You do realize guns were, to an extent, used in the same period as crossbows, right?

Similar to how mice frighten elephants (it's actually not just a myth), I've often seen cats frighten and chase dogs.
