While we're adding televisions, why don't we add guns? Guns wouldn't ruin minecraft at all as it's what YOU want to make of it right? No wait, let's add jets, rockets, hell why don't we add a space dimension?
Time to play devil's advocate.
Firearms have existed since the fourteenth century, in the middle ages (the Medieval period). Also, see the official gun thread for evidence that guns could easily be balanced and fit the game's "feel".
Jets may not fit, but da Vinci-esque flying machines powered by crude rocket engines seem perfectly plausible.
Rockets are already ingame in the form of fireworks.
Currently there are no mechanics or items in only SSP or SMP. I think it should stay that way, with everything having at least a little use in both SSP and SMP alike.
With these implemented game would not be a sandbox game but a rpg/action game.
But if any armor were added, Minecraft would be an RPG- oh, wait. This is no different then the stuff in-game right now. Anyways, Minecraft is arguably already an RPG, and RPG or action games can also be sandbox games. Are you suggesting to say that adding new armor to the game will remove one's ability to explore freely and do whatever they want? Because that's the definition of a sandbox game.
The telescope would allow one to zoom in their view to about twice as large as normal, similar to the Optifine zoom function. It could be attached to either a musket, blunderbuss, or ballista, and would cause gun to become slightly more accurate, as well as make muskets and ballista zoom in 2x, and blunderbusses 1.5x (since they're shorter range) when the gun is readied (right-clicking). The downside is that damage dealt would be reduced by 1 heart of damage per bullet.
Fourth, the grenade
The grenade could be crafted with a flower pot and a piece of gunpowder.
Using one would require flint and steel in your inventory. Right-clicking would begin to cook it, and releasing would throw it. Using the grenade would count as one use of the flint and steel. After about three seconds it would explode, whether you had thrown it or not. The explosion would be identical in block damage to that of a ghast fireball, and it would deal a maximum of 15 damage, or 7.5 hearts, to entities within five blocks of the explosion's center."
I thought I'd move some ideas over from the other gun thread that was locked.
"Here's my idea for the musket:
It would use paper cartridges (which I'm not going to discuss right now)
Right-clicking would ready it, and releasing right click would fire a bullet at about 70 blocks per second, a bit faster than the bow.
A bullet could deal 13 damage, 4 more than a bow, or 6.5 hearts.
Once you had fired it, you would have to reload it by holding the RMB for about two seconds. Reloading would not consume ammo, instead firing would. Removing the weapon from your hotbar would unload it.
Secondly, the blunderbuss:
It would use buckshot (not going to discuss it right now)
Right-clicking would ready it, and releasing it would fire a dozen bullets in a randomized cone. A bullet would deal 4 damage, or 2 hearts.
Reloading would be identical to that of the musket. As with the musket, removing it from your hotbar would unload it.
Third, not quite a gun: the crossbow
It would fire bolts, as well as normal arrows, which would be crafted by combining an arrow with an iron ingot.
One would have to reload it, similar to the guns. It would be far more accurate than bows or muskets, and would deal 10 damage, or five hearts. It would also ignore half of the victims armor. However, there is a 25% chance that when firing a normal arrow, the arrow will snap.
Enchantments:
These would be (some of?) the enchantments for the firearms
Speed Shooting
Would halve the reload speed. The maximum level possible without third-party programs would be 2, lowering the speed to .75 seconds.
Flaming Cartridge
Would ignite the projectiles the gun fired. The max level possible would be 1.
Stopping Power
Would increase the damage dealt per bullet by 1 heart for each level. The maximum level possible would be 4, dealing 10.5 damage
Heavy Bullet (Can't think of a better name)
Would be identical to punch on bows. Max level possible would be 2.
Also, the crossbow would use bow enchantments, plus Speed Shooting."
The current system suffices for defending myself effectively against hordes of enemies. I may befriend myself with the PvP part, but not really with the PvE part of your suggestion.
And that's the problem. You shouldn't be able to punch an army of mobs to death and come out unharmed.
good idea except for, oh ya, we already have that. next article.
Nope.
Show me an unmodded screenshot with the blocks closer to the surface colorless and transparent, and the blocks gaining color and opacity the further down they are.
Exactly. They shouldn't be controllable without carrots and they shouldn't pull carts because that's the intended purpose of the horses that are being added. I'm fine with the helmets, but it doesn't make much sense that only pigs get helmets. Why not all passive mobs?

The End is basically a surreal space dimension.
Please do the research next time.

I have to sort of agree here. I enjoy rock music to an extent, but I loathe the heavy metal that makes up the majority of the rock genre.

I'm pretty sure it's required by law basically anywhere.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who interpreted it like that.
