Did you have MC open while trying to use NBTExplorer?
The game cannot be active while you modify it!

    Lou

I use from the OP (page 1 post 1) of this thread NBTExplorer 2.7.6, HTH.

The client runs on my Mac; the server runs on a dedicated Linux box. Is that what you're checking? Or are you saying I can't be in the world - any world - on the client while also running NBTExplorer, even though I downloaded the .dat files to a completely different directory from where the game would run?

First-time NBTExplorer user here. I'm running a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.5.

I can get the .app to run just fine. I can get it to look at a .dat just fine. I can get it to delete an inventory item just fine. But the "Save" is always greyed out - I cannot save any changes. Tried two different .dat files. While it's really lovely to have an NBT browser, what I really need is an NBT editor.

I've tried downloading what supposedly are different versions of NBTExplorer, from three different sites. They all ended up being the version of NTBExplorer.app that's dated Nov. 10, 2012, 9:40pm. Is there a newer one somewhere?

    Please help. Thanks.

    Non-absolute seed
    spawn
puts you near x=-80, z=-68 - entrance to a deep cave that's by the edge of a LOT of water. Do not disturb the sand on your way in. From here, can also take a pass-thru through the hill. A couple of critters inside.

Around that hill is a very narrow almost-sky arch near x=-28, z=-31. One or two blocks missing. Befuddled cow on top in mine. View through there of a small peak with snow.

Lots of water, lots of sand. A little sugarcane. Some friendly animals. A few trees in some places; lots of open grass with just a couple of trees elsewhere.

Good view of the area from the barely snowy peak: x=24, y=95, z=0. Nothing particular to see.

From further along that bare, grass-only ridge, x=20, y=90, z=57, you can see a smaller, nearby hill with an open cave.

From up there you can see some small pools of water up high. Rendering error showed lava beneath one of them.

    Non-absolute spawning seed
    -1 -1 -1 -1 -1
results in a somewhat typical but rich landscape. Interesting but not bizarre rock formations, waterfall near x=22, z=-80. Sand, dirt, rock; some visible mountainside coal. Pigs, sheep.

Mountainside cave with at least two entrances has something spawning inside - in F3 peaceful mode I could see a ton of numbers floating around with no bodies (the cows, pigs, etc. have #s but are visible). Entrances at x=-7, y-80, z=-118 and x=-6, y=82, z=-102.

From there, passed a mountaintop watery cavern (small?) and arrived at an open cavelike area with mushrooms and visible coal at x=-32, y=78, z=-140. It goes in a bit. More bodiless floating numbers - spiders? They're up high.

Another reverse: the squares of the numbers 10 thru 0, digits backwards, as the seed:
    0011846946352619410
    NOT an absolute spawn.

Kind of boring where I started out - sand, water, tall grass, a few cacti - and after wandering. A few cows and chickens (ducks?) and pigs - not a lot. Didn't see any wolves. Nothing high anywhere in sight - 10-15 or MAYBE 20 above sea level at most. If you like sand and marshes and water, this is your world.

Big watery cavern(?) at x=250, y=-1.

Cave entrance at x=339, z=-105. Creepy noises, so something probably lives there. Got dark in there close to the entrance and I hadn't made a light source.

Careful where you dig since there's so much water around.

Reverse the Fibonacci series fragment above to
    9855431231853211
and it's similar in climate. Spawned (not absolute) on a typical beach by some higher terrain. Kind of boring there, but walk to x=-100, z=-108 for a nice view of a large but wide natural arch. Less steep overall than previous. Some large, open grassy and sandy areas in this one and some hilltop pools.

Go up to x=-187, z=-110 to see a natural heart-shaped lake in sand, some pumpkins, and a small cave opening by the lake. Visible coal & iron in there, right by the entrance. A larger, watery cave close to the left of the heart. Farther to the left of the lake from here (90 degree turn to the left), in the distance - another watery cave.

Just up the hill from that last cave, at x=-172, z=2, is a view to the west across the sand and water to a hilly formation that looks like a whale or a large ship. Yet another watery cavern just downhill of these coordinates.

The squares of the numbers 0 thru 10 as the seed:
    0149162536496481100

I started in a sandy area around x=-94, z=-118 in the middle of high, interestingly overhanging sand/rock cliffs with cut-throughs. One cactus in view. One lone sand block way up in the sky off to the side. Over a little, there's a rock/dirt spire.

There's very deep water near x=-123, z=-32. Plenty of pigs.

Respawned to x=-30, z=-93. Sandy area facing an overhanging rock formation that looks something like a walking bear. Tips of the peaks are in the clouds. Walked a VERY short distance (to the right when facing the funky rock formation) to x=-20, z=-107 and found myself looking at a large lava waterfall that cascades into a pool of water. Pumpkins & cows at the base and some sugarcane.

Beach at x=31, z=-181. Cacti. Can look back toward the lavafall or around at various other tantalizing locations. High land - drops off quite a bit toward the water. Small sand pyramid at x=64, z=-171 gives a good vantage point of some of these.

Some pumpkins and small ponds up on the hill near x=200, z=-148.

Higher up, good view back to previous beach at z=228, z=-159. Also a drop into a mountaintop valley.

Even higher, x=239, y=105, z=-163, view of natural harbor(?) to the east. Panning around, you can see a few small cave(?) entrances in the hills and a very steep (careful!) drop to a mountaintop valley. Top of peak, x=253, y=115, z=-167, is just barely above the clouds. Looking northwest you can see an even higher peak that's closer to the spawn point(s). You can keep going in the same general direction, dip down, and go up to the next bump on the hill. x=299, y=110, z=-196. Look, Ma, I'm in the clouds!

Be careful near here - around x=362, z=-180, the edge drops off all of a sudden into a scenic area with two tiny floating islands and a barely connected peninsula way up high. Ouch! Visible coal here. See them from x=380, z=-161.

More sheer cliffs and pointy pinnacles and valleys around here.

Type in the first part of the Fibonacci series as the seed:
    1123581321345589

It's not an absolute spawner, but it has ocean on one side, sand, deep lagoons, and one large hilly/mountainous area with a crazy, huge open cave. Cave is around x=-118, z=20. I fell in and couldn't quite get out because the "stairs" out have a missing step and then you fall back down into it. There may be other ways out - it's open for a long ways (to z=2 or so in one direction and about as far in the other).

From the sounds (even in peaceful mode) I'm guessing there are mob spawners therein.

Near x=-98, z-=104 there is a beach with flat, surface rock with visible iron and coal.

From x=-64, z=6 facing the ocean you can see a cliff with visible coal.

From x=-50, z=-100 with your back to the larger body of water you can see a huge, watery natural arch.

    The seed
    999999999
(nine #9s) spawns at 0.5,0.5 on the edge of a beach, in view of a very funky hill with a vertical tree-topped spire that's cloud height. Haven't explored it much. Obvious features: large trees (2 kinds), hills, tall grass, sand, water. Flowers, mushrooms very nearby. Cows. Pigs. Chickens. Sheep. Wolves. Funky hill (mountain?) has a very large open cave by the water with a little visible coal & iron and a waterfall down in it. Go up & over the low part of the mountain to sand, water, and another large open cave w/ visible iron. And another cave... The mountain is more caves than rock, it looks like. High cave on back side - need a ladder. Visible coal back there.

Playing in Peaceful mode, so I couldn't tell you which critters are hiding out.
