Yes you need premium to get the game and files needed.
For non legit versions, email mojang for help, just let them know you did not purchase minecraft and having just a terrible time running it with mods and would like some help.....I am sure they will be more then willing to take time from completing work on updating the game that those of us took the time to purchase it and support their work on this fantastic work of art/game.

A couple of suggestions that could be introduced would be a new ore specific to the nether, like nethercite or something like that that would be really rare to find but more powerful then diamond. More mobs would be nice. Including some bosses or larger mobs to fight. I would really really really like to see trees just fall over after taking out a piece of the trunk. It gets frustrating on those really large trees when the wood is all over There is so much more to suggest but its all been suggested.

**New Stuffs**
1) Copper - this new ore could be refined with redstone to make wires which transmit power from torches (or batteries crafted from copper/redstone), this can also be ran vertically, to reduce space for creating traps / doors / etc. This could also be combined with other metals to make stonger tools/items.
2) Carbon - can be found either underground at same level as diamonds. Or crafted by placing 9 charcoal on the crafting table to form a block of charcoal, then place on the furnace to heat it, then placed compressed by a piston to form a carbon block (only worth 1 of course) and this would have a slight chance of producing a diamond.
3) Steel - this can be crafted by combining carbon and iron, used to make new tools / armor / weapons, BUT will reduce stegth/life/durrability if it gets wet
4) SHEILDS!!!! - this is self explanitory, shield will have a limit to uses of course, (useful against that darm blast damage from creepers) comes in your flavor of wood/copper/iron/steel/stainless stee/gold/diamond/chromium(this one could actually deflected fireballs!)
5) Chromium - fairly rare, this can be smelted and used to make shiny things
6) Stainless Steel - made by crafting steel and chromium, this is a slightly stronger then steel, but this will not effected by water like reqular steel.
7) Silicon - can be smelted into ingots
8) Automated Repeater - can be crafted w/redstone torch/Stone/copper ingot and a silicon ingot, (power source need for it to work), and has a selection of 5/10/20/40 seconds,
9) Upgrade station - this allows you to upgrade or even repair tools/armor/weapons - one of each part of the tool/armor/weapon will be needed to repair it, upgrades can only be done on a non used item
10) Stone/iron/gold/diamond/...ect etc arrows - self explanitory
11) Campfire - i have seen this one before in the forums and think this would be awesomeness, as it would go out after time, like a furnace but would last longer w/wood of course and thru the night with coal/charcoal
12) Cloth - made by 3 blocks of wool
13) Clothes - made like armor just with the cloth, can be combined with armor (good for snow biomes to keep warm)
14) Redstone powered lights - made with glass around a copper ingot, produces more light then standard torches and powered by switches/pressure plates/buttons/redstone power tracks
**New Mobs**
1) fireball skeleton - shoots fireballs
2) Giants - this one has been seen all thruout the forums - these should be tripple the size of their normal sized mob counter part, their appearance in the world however is limitted, and any given time there is only 5-10
3) goliath - a new mob that is 5 times bigger then a creeper, it explodes after death for a nice 10x explosing then that of a normal creeper (better run after killing this one )
4) flying mobs - this one is needed, nothing in the skys but clouds, no threat of death from above..we need that, we need the fear from the skies
5) 4 legged mobs - this one can be ran with on the ideas, but would be nice to see a quadraped enemie
6) daytime skeleton/zombie mobs
7) Honestly i think they should work with the modders on this one, like Mo' Creatures and etc and have them add more mobs in but included in the game w/out modding ( just an idea )
**New Game mechanics**
1) Sprinting
2) STORMS!! w/lighting, wind, tornadoes, etc etc, even if your not knee deep in mobs...weather should be something to survive against
3) as an expension on the previous suggestion, if you are in a snow biome, you need to have something to keep you warm or you lose health slowly, leather armour combined with wool could be good or just clothes crafted from wool, and campire could help with those bitter times in the biome.
4) if you have chest in your inventory, when you die, all of your stuff you had should be placed into the chest instead of a strune about the area of which you met your demise. or even if you did not have a chest it could still be placed in one and when you collect your possesions, the chest will disappear. If you die in lava tho, your still SOL
5) Easier way to load mods into the game, since i am sure mojang knows its being modded, they should have the option to load the mod into the game w/out haxoring it, or unzipping/rezipping and the whole what not
