posted a message on What I think when my wolf dies
In one of my worlds I have 2, which I've had since 1.7. Because somebody in their infinite wisdom decided to make zombies smarter than dogs, I'm kind of afraid to take them anywhere.
In a new world I have just started however, I have bred quite the pack simply to watch my back. There are many and I don't think twice about losing one or two. I did have a twinge the other night though, when I ended up accidentally whacking one with my shovel while clearing sand! Wolves/dogs have become more annoying than those green things that push you into lava! BTW, can you revive dogs anymore? Seems their tails stay down all the time now, and they only breed, not heel(pun!), when you feed them.

posted a message on I have a huge problem i need to be fixed (Couldn't find a Help section, decided post will go here)
I'm not by any means a pro with computers, but from expieriance I have leaned; Make sure your old graphics card (if onboard) is dis-abled as well as any associated software/drivers for previous cards. Also, make sure your monitor has the most recent drivers installed. Lastly, make sure of compatability both ways, card to system and system to card.
    Good luck.

Very nice start. Don't ever destroy/delete it. It will be fun to look back on it after 6 months or so of building your world. Big green plus for you! BTW, was that hill there and you built atop of it, or did you build it up?

posted a message on Animals Escaping The Fences
Let's take a quick lesson from "real life". A feedlot, or stockyard, is generally surrounded by a secondary containment fence. The area between the two fences usually contains a roadway to allow ranch hands quick access to any point without disrupting the livestock as well as irrigation/drainage. This method is not used on large grazing lands.
The game does have the glitch of allowing cattle to leap over fencing by jumping off of each other. A calf or lamb spawned near a fence/gate will also sometimes appear on the other side. With a containment fence around your ranch you can lead animals back to thier pens while keeping them from wandering your cities. You still have to check your stock from time to time (what good rancher doesn't?). Minecraft chickens are magical, being able to leap tall fences at will. I have found 3 high will mostly prevent this, but remember to provide a large enough area for the number of animals in the pen to prevent "piggy backing". Have fun!

posted a message on Efficient Clay Gathering
I use unfired clay for the roofs of some of the buildings in my (challenge) city, to include a modest sized cathederal, which translates to; I have gathered a great quantity of clay in a reasonable amount of time. I have found the best way (for me) is to have a helmet with aqua affinity, some steel shovels, and a boat. Depending on your texture pack (I use misa's 401) you should be able to see, as you travel the deep blue sea, where the sea floor rises to just 3 or 4 meters (blocks) deep. Stop your boat here, dive in, and take a look around. Since 1.0 I have been able to get a lot of clay this way. It does take a while, but once you get a good tempo going, it is actually quite easy. A nice benefit is that there are no hostile mobs at sea!
Shores and shoals are the first place to look due to the shallow water, but you stated you are interested in ocean prospecting. I have not gone too deep, but if I ever get a helmet with affinity AND respiration (is that possible?), then I am back out to sea! Remember to bring an extra boat or two just in case.

posted a message on [Challenge] Castle Building Challenge
A request to you Steelfeathers, as this is your challenge. Being an "Old world Prussian" I tend to be a stickler for rules. I f you have been following my city challenge, you know that I started on a (very)small island. One of my engineering projects was to construct a tunnel under the sea (1.5 km) to the nearest sizable land. With your permission I would like to complete this challenge using my city challenge world, with my "spawn point" being the exact location that my rail tunnel broke ground on the mainland. I have not been to this land yet (other than breakthrough) so it is completely untouched. Let me know if this is O.K. , else I start another world. Thank you.

posted a message on [Challenge] Castle Building Challenge
Hmm...this challenge looks suspiciously familiar. I'm guessing you liked doing the city challenge. I'm still stuck on level 4. I kind of wish you had come up with this idea earlier: same type of challenge on a much smaller scale!! I think I may try this as I'm looking for a brief diversion from constructing an entire city by myself.
I have a question concerning level 1 & 2. Did you intend to allow stone tools in the wood age an iron tools in the stone age? If/when I do this I think I'll ammend it to not allow myself the use of the resource until I start that age.
Let's see where this goes. I'm looking forward to seeing some castles!!

If you download and install the newest snapshot (or whatever it's called) that JEB posted, you can get apples from oak/maple trees by hitting the leaves. Mind you, not every hit will produce an apple, but you should get 1 for every 4/5saplings that fall. An apple restores 2 hearts.

posted a message on Minecraft Enhancement Table Help
    Quote from xLuciferx

I've checked out the enhancement table page on minecraft wiki before i posted this thread and i couldn't find any suitable answers to the enhancement table being unable to enhance any other stuff or the limited number of times the enhancement table could enhance

I'm not big into enchanting, but I have found that saving xp to get a level 40 or 50 item is generaly a waste of time. Between 20-25 works well for me. Just remember to do the bookcase arrangement.
Now that you mention it(and re-reading wiki), it does seem that the wiki instructions don't quite mesh up to the things I've seen posted on here. I'm not sure you can put more than 1 enchantment on an item, at least not without a mod. I play "vanilla" so....
Good luck and I'll be following this thread to see what I'm missing!

Not trying to dismiss your question, but www.minecraftwiki.net has all of the information you need. Look up enchanting table and enchanting and it will get you well on your way. It shows how to build a table, enchant items, and even bookcase placement (to help increase your enchantment potentcy!). Check it out, it helped me.

posted a message on Alright here we go question about farming
You're not going to be able to stop them from jumping over while maintaining an aesthetically good looking fence. The way I approached this problem was to build a second "containment fence" around the first leaving a walking space between the two (both can be only 1 high). If/when an animal gets over the first, I have the option of leading it back into the main pen or just slaughtering it right there. I figured, if it works at prisons..... Anyway, no more animals wandering around my city!

    posted a message on [Hints&Tips]Building a City
    Quote from BogusMeatFactory

One of the things that I do, when building, is look at real world examples of very unique architecture and structure of the city as a whole. One of my goals is to create a city very similar to that of a Mexican island city Janitzio. There is something very appealing to buildings stacked on buildings, with rising, tiered stairs up to a monument.

I would really like to see this when you build it. I know the real place and this looks like an awesome minecraft build. I am currently working on a town that resembles Bardejov, as I like the European styling of towns/cities.

I know how you feel! I have been working on a (late) medieval style world for some time now. I've got hundreds of hours invested in it and don't realy want to just "throw it all away"! I have stopped exploring though. I guess I will continue with what I'm doing and just roll with it. Call it "luck of the draw" if you will. If you don't have a world you're working on then wait. You can wait one more day, can't you?! Play a challenge map in the meantime. Skyblock is a pretty good diversion, and you don't have to worry about updates with it. Remember the bottom line; It's a game. Have fun!!
