Its referring to an older version of survival, and thus it shouldn't be changed.

Since you seem to be master of zombies, answer this: How does the new zombie AI affect deadfalls? I have seen the videos where the mob navigates mazes, avoids lava/cacti, and peers through windows, but will it blindly leap from a high place? I have not built a death platform to test, but I have seen them atop my tallest buildings, but so far no lemming dives. (Damn dogs do it all the time though!!!)

The wiki is wrong. Make the zombies drop 23 and hit them twice barehanded. It takes one hit to get through their armor, and one hit to kill their remaining half heart of health. This is PROVEN. End of discussion.

Correction: The wiki is not wrong, but it is referring to 'Survival Test,' which was two years ago, when sometimes zombies and skeletons would APPEAR to have armor on.

If you are that certain mein freund, then edit the wiki post. Some of us do consult that first before posting already answered questions on the forums. If it is wrong, help us and change it.

They are never a one hit kill, because they have armor. Make them fall 22 blocks, and then you have to hit them twice. Once to remove the armor, and a second to kill them.

This is what the wiki entry states:
Zombies and Skeletons would occasionally wear armor in survival test. This armor, however, did not alter any of their stats, and was purely superficial

A fall from 22 blocks high will leave the zombie with half a heart in damage points, unless he falls in water (that's deep enough).

That's right, and there is a logical explanation. Digging a higher quarry will not grant you with any more diamonds than say a ~4 blocks high one right above the bedrock layer, nor will it grant you many more gold ore. This is dua to the fact that every ore has a height limit above which it cannot generate, and a frequency rate, resulting in only one diamond vein being generated every chunk, only at the lower layers. Since your quarry is 20x20 in depth and width, you only dug about 1 entire chunk, and some parts of other chunks in which you might HAVE found a vein.

Same story goes for gold, however gold would be a bit more frequent. If you would have, say, dug exactly this amount of blocks, but for a quarry that's about 4/6 blocks high and at bedrock layer, and spans over a couple of chunks, you would have a LOT more diamonds with the same effort.

However, I have always like quarries like this, and have dug myself a 20x20 as well in one of my serious worlds. I didn't get that many ores, but had cobblestone for weeks and built me some nice structures out of it. I could also have a proud look at my 'creation' since I have a really bad attention span and I actually did that in one session.

That park looks great, though! So you are a dad with a son that plays Mc as well? That's so cool, that little guy has got to have one of the best daddies in the world. Keep it up, mate!

I'm well aware of how minerals generate within a block......now! LOL! This was my first project after building my first night "shriek shack", and I had no idea how all of this worked. I didn't know about the wiki page, and didn't come to the forums until last fall. There is a lot of noob in this part of my world. This forum has been a tremendous help! I have started a few worlds since, but my first is still by far my favorite. My skills have improved since the mine project, but time is still mostly spent on digging and cooking cobble. My son still helps with the labour, but he's not so little and I'm not so young! Thank you for your comments.
If you're interested, here's a sample of where our skill levels are at now (Sorry for skirting off topic)
About a kilometer from the mine/park:

Making it into a DEEEP lake is not impossible.

Step 1: 1 block below the top level fill in with dirt.
Step 2: Add water to the 1 block deep crater
Step 3: remove the dirt blocks and voila instant lake.

The water travels all the way down to bedrock so no need to waste time filling it ALL in.

I would have done that then but did not know how at the time. I still would like a quarry lake so I just might start digging again! Thanks for the info.

Goodness gravy. How many blocks wide and how many long is the hole?

It is 20x20xabout65. Took a while, but I had some help from my son (we switched off) as well as a few disgruntled creepers. Believe it or not, I got very few diamonds out of it. Not much gold either. I started in 1.6 and I think that stuff was rarer then. You think this is something, you should see the terraforming project not to far from here! No mods,no add ons. Just a bad case of OCD and a lot of free time! Eating lead paint chips as a child does that to you!

Maybe you got tired of spelunking in seemingly endless caves. Maybe you needed a source of building matierial closer to your build site. Whatever the reason, you decided an open pit mine to be the "choice of champions". Congratulations! Your project is done, and looks great! Now you can close the mine. But what do you do with a gaping hole in the ground that goes straight to bedrock? Toxic waste is banned in "minetopia". Since Steve apparently doesn't have an ass, you can rule out sewage treatment. Filling it back in is counter productive, and making a lake is time consuming and impractical (I've tried!) Maybe a giant mob moshpit for those weekend gladiator games. Maybe a VERY easy par 3 at Minecraft Country Club. What would you do? What have you done? Show us those pics!
Here's my solution (a work in progress)

    I dug a 20x20. I figured that would overlap at least 4 16x16 chunks.
I first covered it with glass:Next, I made a park:Next, beneath the park, an art gallery:continued to a (now empty) museum. I will fill it when I get feather touch on a pick.Future expantion. Maybe condos!

posted a message on Splash Discovery!
    Here are the meanings of the splashes as listed in minecraftwiki (you should check it out!);

    -
This splash is stored as "§1C§2o§3l§4o§5r§6m§7a§8t§9i§ac" in splashes.txt; the "§" and the character following determine the color that the text following that code will be displayed as.

SOPA is a highly controversial antipiracy bill currently working its way through the United States House of Representatives.

Despite what this splash claims, the message does appear on the splash screen. This is the first splash that doesn't end with an exclamation point (!), other than the special "missingno" splash

All of the splashes, including the specials, are spelled out in the wiki entry.

Ahhh...noob nievity! Bask in it's innocence. Before we cut this poster to shreds and remember what it was like when we discovered something awesome and unknown for the first time. "You don't need an axe to cut down trees. You can punch them. YOU CAN PUNCH THEM" Remember your first "big" discovery that everyone else knew about? Mine was "holding the shift key while you walk doesn't let you fall" Welcome to the fickle forums! A green plus for you!! :biggrin.gif:
    P.S. Here's my working multi-colour sheep farm.

posted a message on Utilizing Villages from the start
I guess it all depends on how you play. I'm a bit on the moral side so I leave it alone, or at least replace what I use. My thinking is; what if they finaly do something with the npc's. Maybe trading/services are in the future and we will no longer have to go to twelve to get diamonds. Hows that going to work out if I've razed all of the villages?
One challenge I set for myself when I spawned near a village, was to treat it as if I were delegated with it's survial. I built walls, gates, and a modest chateau for it's leader....Me! It was a good sized one. 2 churches and 2 blacksmiths. Might have been a double town.

Edit 20 minutes later after reading the byline! Unless you use hacks or mods or the challenge/server rules forbid it, it definitely is NOT cheating. It's your game; is it cheating?

posted a message on Naturally spawned Crafting Bench!?!?!?
This post is actually believable unlike a few others I have seen recently (redstone circuits and tnt, yeah, I believed that one!!) The worbench is one of the items autogenerated into a world and found in towns. My guess is something caused the town not to spawn but the coding for the bench remained. I haven't found a sigle item like this, but I have found a small wheat farm with one of the light posts at the top of a mountain, and in another area, half of a house and nothing else! Don't worry about it, just do what I did; take it and use it and Thanks be to Notch.

Superspawn will let you change the master new spawn point for the server which is what I used at first.

Homespawnplus provides the same feature as well as the ability to provide players a /home option with the admin option to edit and increase the maximum home binds beyond the default 1.

I will have to try this. Now maybe I can remove the ugly hill from the town! Didn't even think to start building some bit away from the spawn point when we started. Now we have way too much time invested to move. Hope this works! Thanks!

I'm sure you could get an answer in the server section. The only thing you will get here is a dozon people telling you you're in the wrong section. I will be following you're thread because I would like to find out the answer to this as well. In the server section. :wink.gif:
