As appears to be a common thing, I cannot make a purchase with my prepaid credit card due to Notch being situated in Europe I believe.

Anyway as I said before this is clearly a common issue as can be seen with a simple glance at the front page, so are there any simple solutions?

going to go out on a limb and say that this would be a terrible idea if I'm correct in assuming Notch's current goal is to promote exploration. Requiring the player to go to some expense to create permanent lighting would only give people more reason to stay in their well charted and properly lit homes.
