posted a message on Mansion and Town with Blacksmith in view of spawn point!

If you have a distant enough view setting, you can see the town and the mansion if you go up 15 blocks from spawn, somewhat towards the east. There are many other towns nearby as well, (I haven't visited them, I can just see them on Creative when I fly up) a small chasm next to the mansion, and you spawn in the middle of an open field with flowers which is personally my favorite kind of homebase.

The blacksmith has enough obsidian to make a nether portal.

    The seed is:

    willow

    Have fun!

    Chasm

That one has a desert, some epic mountains, a town, a surface lava lake and some grassy mountains. I don't know about an ocean though, I haven't explored it much. Make sure you capitalize Chasm. The spawn point is right in the intersection of at least 3 biomes. It has a surface zombie dungeon too as a bonus, and I've spawned in the same place 3 times. Basically, when you spawn, turn 90 degrees to your right and go across the river, then walk that direction. In about 30 seconds watch out or you will fall into the dungeon.

    Coords:

    Seed: Chasm
    Town 383, 293
    Zombie Dungeon 286,277
    Spawn 124, 252
    Ravine: 532, 506
    Lava: 316, 199

I was thinking about doing this myself, making a template. Good thing I decided to look and see if someone else had done it first. I was thinking double sided tape might work to tape blocks together for building, and using cardstock to print on would make things a tiny bit easier to work with. This is so cool! :smile.gif:

Congrats on a very cool looking map generator! Can't wait to try it!

Sadly, that involves finding someone who is willing to let me borrow their computer to install this on so I can generate a world to send to myself, because I'm not running Windows. I'd be willing to help with a port of the generator if it is written in a standard language like C, C++, or Java.

Hope everything goes smooth with your next generator!

Oh that's a good idea! I should try that....

So since I have a mac, I had to settle for the sample. I just wanted to tell any other mac users out there that A: there is no diamond, lapis, or lava on the map. At all. I checked with a block finder on a map viewer. Unless you climb over the wall. What wall? What I love about the sample that the real map generator doesn't have, is that it is a block of space enclosed by a bedrock wall... which you can climb over. Make a boat, and go in one direction for awhile (not that long, it's not that big) and you will see what I mean. Over the wall Minecraft will generate the rest of the world normally. You can get over it by putting blocks of sand under you and jumping on top of them, then putting sand on the other side and letting them fall until you have a stack, then digging your way down on the other side. I'm thinking of using MCEdit to change part of it to something I can dig through just because I think it's even cooler to have the planetoids as part of a regular world!

You could route the collection flow so that you're standing behind the lava. That fixes it without adding cactus.

I thought of that. I will probably do that but there are some other things that interferes with, because of where it happens to be, but I think I can work around it. I might do both reroute and cactus just to make SURE.

    Thanks guys!

My farm is basically a long room with canals with currents that drag the mobs to me, so I could be wherever, they don't need to see me, I'd recommend that. Instead of lava, I'd use a drowning trap instead because it won't destroy items, PLUS with the drowning trap you can place cactuses over the 'mouth' of the trap, SW corner, in order to kill spiders! For example:
    (View from above):
    Blue-water,
black-hole mobs fall into before drowning
    green-cactus
:stone: :stone: :Blue: :Blue: :stone: :stone:
:stone: :stone: :Blue: :Blue: :stone: :stone:
:stone: :stone: :Blue: :Blue: :stone: :stone:
:stone: :stone: :Black: :Black: :stone: :stone:
:stone: [] :Green: [] :stone: :stone:

    I hope that isn't TOO confusing :tongue.gif:

    basically, cactuses

My mob rooms are also a series of canals, it's kind of like a huge funnel made of 8 block layers, with 2 block deep canals flowing down into a center canal that goes into the lava contraption. It works beautifully, the items drop under the lava, so they don't ever get burnt up except for the string which I don't care about. Also it's fun to watch em burn. It's only the spiders that I have to get to chase me, the others just flow right into the lava, burn immediately, and their drops flow right to me. I don't have to do anything. So far I have collected 2 stacks each of bones and gunpowder, plus a ton of arrows and feathers. However I might use this when I make a friendly mob trap. I need to start collecting pork chops now. And wool. I need to go find cactus. It's far away....

The easiest way to fix this is to put cacti on the spots where they stare at you. They hit the cacti and die.
Worked for me. (although i also put some cacti in the water, just to make sure)

Ah. Yes. Good idea thank you. That's going to be a trek, since there is no cacti near me, but I need to do some exploring anyway. (I'm surrounded by snow and pine in this world, no cactus for miles around.)

posted a message on Monster Harvester Questions, Spider Filter?
So I'm working on a monster spawning, harvesting thing, which so far works fairly well. I can stand at my collection point and go AFK for awhile and come back and there are maybe 50 items per hour? Not huge, like some of the amazing ones out there, but I've been lazy about my spawn area. I have a lot of room for growth so I'm not worried about that.

The problem is, when I stand at the collection point, the spiders just stare at me. Whenever a monster is killed it gives the chance for another monster to spawn, so it is annoying. I can walk up to the top "lookout" point of my grinder, and they will then try to chase me and get burnt up by the lava, but if I go AFK that doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas on ways of filtering out spiders? I honestly don't care about string anyway so I don't even care about collecting from them I just want them to go away!

    Here are some shots:
Main view, with a zombie about to get burnt up

    Item Collection

View from the top of the lava over ladder over water thing (common trap for monsters)

Current spider filter from the inside ,

I have to stand at the top to lure them in as it is now, which is annoying if I'm AFK just collecting bones and stuff. It's basically an upside down stair kind of thing made of glass, since they can climb walls but not ceilings, it kind of forces them into the water trough that carries them into the lava. It also serves as a platform that allows me to stand above the killing area and see a good panorama of the spawning rooms.

Any better ideas? I've heard of spider filters before. I'm just not sure how. If nothing else maybe I will just flood the foremost level where they stand there and stare at me, so the water carries them down, but I'm having problems with water flow, it keeps giving me little backwards flow parts that make things just sit there.

My spawn rooms are working OK but I think more levels, both out and up will help. I'm trying to figure out if I can get the skeleton spawning dungeon to also feed into this, but it's about 15 levels below this so I don't think I can get that to work, unless skellys climb ladders. Maybe I will just have to give it it's own collection point and trap.

I've been playing one like that for awhile. 3555088298860370269 There is a HUGE network of caves under about -39, 75, and thereabouts. There are caves everywhere actually. I hollowed out a cavern using intersecting caves near bedrock. I started playing this world from before the seed selection update, so it's just a random number. It's not an epic world but you spawn right in the snow.

Yeah there are 2 dungeons really close to each other here, the one in the pic and another hidden zombie one at about -111, 51, -123 or around there. I cheated and found it on an external mapping program, minutor, which also shows that this cave system is MASSIVE. It looks like a big knot, they all intersect with each other, and the whole world seems to have similar knots scattered about. The natural stairs only go down a few steps before dropping 2 at a time and then just plummeting down.

Yeah, just tried the seed. While there were some cliffs, and a fairly extensive cave system near the surface, there was no cave entrance anywhere near the indicated coordinates.

Either you've got your info wrong, or lies.

No it's really there I tested it too. I was skeptical but it took me 5 minutes to load the world and test it, so check it out. Double check your numbers, make sure you got the negatives in there, the first and last coordinate are both negatives, and so is the seed. Did you include the hyphen in the seed?

Actually this seed is cool in general, it has some cool cliffs and holes in mountains and stuff. The stairs are like walking stairs, they are full blocks, but it's there all right. It's a bit too far from where I spawned for my taste, so I'm probably not going to play this one, but I like it :smile.gif: I'll save the seed for later. It sounds like a lie doesn't it?

Lava Pool: 36, 11, 65 or thereabouts The obsidian is natural. This is untouched land.

Overall a nice little world, I'm building, well growing actually, a treehouse on it. The first time I opened this world I didn't pay attention to the seed thing so I had to find the seed, but I spawned maybe 10 blocks from the lava pool. not dramatic like Glacier or 4042531831790214307, but as amazing as those are, I think I prefer to play on a flatter world so I can see where I am.
