posted a message on what firearms (guns) do you own?

I just happened to shoot an arsenal pic two days ago for another forum. Then I just happened to stumble over here. The answer is I now own too many. I'd need to buy another safe to continue collecting, but I think I'm going to put the hobby on hold for a while and do something more productive with my money (Primarily something that will get me a better job so I can make more money to buy more guns, lol):

posted a message on THE MOST TERRIFYING THING THAT YOU EVER SEE OR DREAMED

Someone having a negligent discharge at the last gun show caused mild fear in me. Drawing my gun in anticipation of having to shoot a road rager caused moderate fear in me (I didn't, nor did I even have to present it to him, luckily). I did have an actual nightmare for the first time in years about a month ago, but I don't even remember what it was about. That's all I got. The only things that put fear into me are things that are actual threats to my life. The spooks are just the spooks, and I don't react to the spooks because spooks aren't real.

"They" is fine and really should be used. People tend to be a lot less willing to accept the concept of agender/genderfluid if you start throwing strange terms at them too.

Source: it's one of my accepted pronouns.

I'm calling you they from now on. Always, forever. It's set in stone and it's your own fault for making me come back here.

Apparently the Army's Individual Carbine Competition is looking for piston instead of direct impingement. From what I see, everything in phase II except the BEAR uses a short-stroke piston.

It would be much cheaper for them to simply retrofit piston uppers onto their current lowers, but that doesn't matter because we both know after spending millions of dollars on this competition, they'll just say "nah we'll stick with the M4", Just as they've done in the last million competitions.

Everyone dies no matter what the situation is. Nobody is immortal. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't at least try to prolong survival.

You've never seen what radiation poisoning looks like, have you? If I knew I took in a substantial amount of rads, I think eating a bullet would seem very appealing. It's not like fallout where you can run through a toxic dumping ground and then chew a couple of pills and be right as rain.

Trick question. The answer is nobody, because with the amount of radiation present in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust, three months is a drop in the bucket as far as time for the radiation levels to subside goes. No matter what, everyone dies.

That was only the A1, and wasn't it because the Army wanted to sabotage it to keep the M14 in place?

It was because of a lot of things. They actually had a formal investigation and had stoner testify, at which point stoner defecated on the Military. The rifle itself was fine (for the most part). The problem was that the military was using really low quality powder left over from prior wars that IIRC was meant for artillery shells and not rifle cartridges, and then on top of that they told the soldiers the gun was self cleaning and didn't require lubrication. Obviously if you run really dirty loads on automatic through a direct impingement gun, you're going to have a lot of problems very quickly. The reason it never shook this myth though is because of the direct impingement system itself. It works, but objectively it's just a bad design. That's why stoner went with a piston system on the AR-18. Direct impingement works fine, but it's crude and the gun gets dirty a lot faster.

My experience with the Mini-14 has been completely different. I easily shoot at and hit a target the size of the target in your image with a old model Mini-14 at 100 yards sitting. I think that's accurate enough to kill a zombie. That's with a less than quality scope.

It's a long running joke. At least you can hit a barn with a mini-14. Aks are good for nothing but sitting in garbage cans.

We're talking about a zombie apocalypse, not a barn apocalypse.

(yes I know the new models are more accurate)

I was exaggerating slightly with the trajectory of the .22, it's rather flatter than a mortar, but I would not want to rely on a .22 LR for stopping something. It helps if shooting at a distance if the bullet doesn't arc too much and if the bullet retains a decent amount of energy. Bullet placement is important, and a .22 will kill, but a .22 doesn't leave much room for error. A zombie killed with a .22 isn't any less dead than a zombie killed with a .308, or a .375 H&H, but the .308 or .375 leave much more room for error.
On stopping power. The lowest energy .308Win Remington sells (Remington Managed Recoil) has about 2500 ft-lbs of energy , while a .22 LR (Winchester Supreme) has about 250 ft-lbs.

    I disagree with your assessment.

Haters shall hate, but I'd use this before I'd use a .308 or. 375:

It's that the cartridge has a trajectory flatter than a mortar and has enough power to actually stop something. .22 LR doesn't really posses either of these traits.

id say UMP 45 . compact, manuverable and reliable. uses pistol ammo which is light and easy to find . 45 packs a bigger punch than 9mm, better for apocalypse scenario. second choice would be Ak47. worlds most reliable and mass produced gun, high stopping power and lots of ammo. id carry both if possible. extended mags and recoil compensator must for both guns. an acog or holo sight would be helpful too

saiga 12 is cool too, but dont know how durable it is. it also has huge recoil.

lol. The saiga 12 is just a 12 gauge AK. As long as you don't run light loads, they tend to function as good as an AK does.
