    Hawkeye and LogBlock..

dosent work on world edit commands.

so my server is gonna die and i will never find the suspect

It's time to scale your WorldEdit permissions back, or deop these players then.

You might consider logging player commands with the Commands Logging plugin. You'll at least be able to track WorldEdit activity. The plugin is outdated, but still works with CB1060.

You probably want WorldGuard if you don't already have it. You can protect areas, disable TNT/lighters, block actions, setup notifications, and more.

You might considering a logging plugin as well, like LogBlock or Hawkeye (soon to be merged). With these plugins you can roll back areas prior to the griefing.

    Good luck!

Iinstalled permissionsEx and now when I try to join my server it says "can not connect: connection refused". And also, how do I set up user permissions? the group and config.yml are empty.

The error you're getting has nothing to do with Permissions. It indicates the server is down, the listening port has changed, or just an inability to connect to the server.

The PermissionsEx wiki documents the configuration clearly. That's a good starting point.

Can you be more specific about what you're developing? If you state some obvious benefits, you may get more response.

Have you started a thread on the bukkit forums?

bPermissions or PEX are the two most popular. PEX has more functionality, but is more complex to setup.

As far as other plugins, that's really dependent on your needs. Here's the bare minimum I'd recommend for a public server:

    • WorldEdit
    • WorldGuard
    • NoCheat
    • WorldBorder
    • VanishNoPacket
    • CommandBook (there are many similar plugins for basic commands)

McMyAdmin for server management and backups. This is a web manager for minecraft & bukkit servers. It's on sale for $5EU right now.

posted a message on Fixed spawn point
If you're using the 'vanilla' server, you can change the spawn point with MCEdit. I don't believe it's a fixed coordinate though.

For bukkit servers, there are a number of plugins that allow you to reset the spawn in-game. With these, you can set a precise location.

Check the tail end of your server log for any errors.

Were you able to backup previously, or is this your first attempt?

Also check McMyAdmin-Errors.log for more information.

You didn't happen to put an IP address in server.properties did you? If your internet service went out, you likely have a new external IP. Make sure you leave this value empty, then give outside players your new IP address or use a service like DynDNS.

So you paid a server that can run 200 players, without any active ones? Rent a 20 slot server first, and see if it works.

I believe this is a privately hosted server with decent bandwidth, but your point is valid. Opening a 200-slot server to the world without a clear theme, no logging mechanisms, no hierarchical permissions, and without whitelisting, is ripe for failure.

From the server machine, you should be able to connect 1) localhost 2) the local IP address, or 3) the hostname. If you're connecting over a LAN, then you'd typically use that same IP address or hostname. For external connections, you need to port-forward, which is well documented in these forums.

posted a message on NEW BUKKIT PERMISSIONS
The permissions themselves aren't really any different, they were simply moved into bukkit so that there is one standard interface for developers to hook. You have your choice of permission managers now (bPermissions, PEX, and PermissionsBukkit, to name a few). I prefer bPermissions myself, for simplicity. Have a look at the plugin threads for each and decide which one suits your needs. There are converters available for the old 2.x/3.x files.

Here's a snippet from my private server's bPermissions world.yml file for reference:

    default: Friends
    players:
        Killburner:
        - Admins
        - Friends
    groups:
        Admins:
        - bPermissions.admin
        - dynmap.*
        - ichat.reload
        - kit.*
        - lockette.*
        - multiverse.*
        - supplysign.*

        - warpz0r.admin.clearhome
        - warpz0r.admin.home
        - warpz0r.admin.sethome
        - worldborder.*
        - worldedit.*
        - worldguard.*

When you say you had to 're-do' the entire server, you mean you literally wiped all of the server files and started from scratch? Obviously something changed between then and now. Comb through your server.log file for clues. Post any errors here if something isn't clear.

posted a message on Server using high amount of RAM
I've been running a server since January, with an average of 35 plugins, and up to 10 simultaneous players. Memory usage has never gone beyond 2GB, and averages 1.5GB. You're seeing 8GB?

Open Task Manager, go to the Processes tab.See how much memory java.exe is using.
