OP is misinformed
branch mining on those deep layers is the most effective way to get DIAMOND, nothing more
if you are specifically after certain materials, such as iron, there are faster ways to do it than branch mining. for example, vertical mining yields more iron faster.

News flash: you aren't moderators. Also, we have a REPORT feature. Use that if you think a thread is off topic.
Or even better, PM the original poster! What a concept!
Or, you could just keep spamming with useless comments such as "this belongs in another subforum" or "bad grammar."
Useless posters, be gone!!!

All we need is a way to generate huge amount of chunks, then analyze them (brute force?) and lastly calculate "found 32 veins" / "generated chunks".
that is perhaps the least efficient way of solving a combinatorial problem i have ever heard of.
no need to do simulations, you can simply calculate the EXACT probability by hand.

Maybe, just maybe, trees too? Trees might be a stretch because you'd need room for them to grow, and I personally don't know if pistons would destroy wood.
Cactus would work, but automated cactus farm already excists and pistons would only make them more complicated, and trees won't because it wouldnt go into a pickupable(?) block
Automated tree farms make tons of sense. I'm pondering a system that would punch down all the leaves and put all the tree blocks into a neat corner to make them much, much easier to mine.
Apr 12, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from Nataris »blah blah blah i have some ridiculous opinion on what you can learn from and what you can't
get a life kid.
nobody cares about your ridiculous opinion on what you can learn from, and what you can't.
OP doesn't know you. OP doesn't care what you think. he asked a pointed question. if you can't be bothered to answer it, then don't bother to post a wall of text that doesn't address his question, either.
the amount of absurdity in this thread is amazing to me. so many people think they have some glorious "correct" opinion on what you can learn from and what you can't.
well news flash: i learned more from "games" than i ever did from any formal education pre-university, and i'm sure many others have done the same. and guess what? i'm nowhere near the only person with this kind of experience.
you can learn a lot from games. games are good for you. embrace them.
Apr 11, 2011i played tons of games at school.Posted in: Discussion
playing games is good for you. ignore your teachers and play minecraft anyway, especially if you're toying with logic gates. that's an incredibly strong learning experience, especially if it's your first adventure.
good luck! sorry i can't give any specific advice because it would depend on the personalities of the specific teachers/people in question.
the goal is simply to manipulate the people with the power to stop into thinking that what you are doing is a good thing.
here is something that MAY work:
1. make an appointment for 5 - 10 minutes with the person in question (NO LONGER)
2. design a presentation aimed to to demonstrate your knowledge of logic gates in the mathematical sense, a strict introduction to the very basics like AND, OR, etc. explain the relationship between redstone circuits and logical circuits and what minecraft is. you might also want to mention any specific plans you have. make sure the presentation fits WITHIN THE TIME. DO NOT GO OVER. be clean, precise, and efficient.

And unless your farm is some behemoth, or you make dozens of farms around the world, you won't exhaust even one stone hoe while setting it up.
Eventually, time to make a new farm! And when that time happens, in comes trusty diamond hoe! Now you don't have to make a new stone one!

Furthermore, wheat farms make armor pretty much unnecessary unless you get completely cluster****ed by mobs.
armor = use less wheat = save more time.

Armor has saved me from lava many times.

Yes you can.

Yeah, but since there's no reason to carry a hoe with you, your diamond hoe would also be lying around in a chest. Diamond pick, shovel, axe, sword - sure, why not. But I'd rather make diamond blocks than a diamond hoe.Diamonds don't do you much good lying around in a chest.
? Diamond hoes still last longer than regular hoes.
I don't understand your point. Do you not ever farm wheat?
Apr 11, 2011Some rough estimates show me that a full suit of diamond armor saves you about 60 loaves of bread or 37 cooked pork chops (about 150 hearts)Posted in: Survival Mode
So to compare, if you mine regularly on the diamond layer, you already have enough diamonds to make this armor.
By not wearing this armor, and assuming you survive by eating food, if you were to go the bread route you would have to additionally:
1. Farm up 180 additional wheat
2. Make it all bread
3. Put some of it in your inventory, wasting valuable inventory space
4. Run out of bread
5. Get more bread, and place it into your inventory, more time wasted
For pork, it's similar. Even if you have a mob grinder you would have to cook 38 pork chops which is just wasted time that you wouldn't have to bother with if you knew how to manage your health efficiently with armor.
Apr 11, 2011People who know how to mine properly make diamond hoes.Posted in: Survival Mode
People who do not know how to mine properly don't. That simple, really.
Diamonds don't do you much good lying around in a chest.
