posted a message on [GUIDE] A how-to on increasing FPS in Minecraft
I'm Playing Minecraft on an Atom processor, 3GB RAM, Win' 7 32 with a half-way decent ATI card. That's what's vaguely important to understand. I did a couple things that have increased Minecraft's frame-rate or lack of stutter considerably.

I made a 256MB virtual RAM disc; on which is saved the Minecraft world files. I installed the Java Development Kit (JDK). It would be nice if someone could confirm this contributes to Minecraft's performance; I am no scientist. The rational for JDK is this:

Minecraft will run considerably faster with the so-called Server Virtual Machine (VM). This server VM is part of Java, but it's not included in the standard (JRE) installation of Java. The server VM starts up more slowly and uses more memory than the standard VM, but it runs a lot faster in many cases.

Other than that, I may start Windows Task Manager and set Java to "high priority". I believe this will not do much at all unless your PC computer really is doing something considerable while you are trying to play Minecraft. I know what my computers are running and none of it is mysterious and/or unnecessarily processing intensive; hint hint.

The only other thing that some nobody like me would suggest is to make sure your (ancient?) OS install isn't completely lacking in some sort of routine HDD de-fragmentation.

I'm going to guess nobody gets sued over this.

The person should have developed something really close to Minecraft with 'enhanced graphics', got in touch with Mojang, and then had the crap on XBL, titled something like "MINECRAFT X" or something.

Too bad the graphics look like shiny garbage.

Notch ruined my life. Everything was fine. Then, MINECRAFT had beds in it. I got AIDS after about 5 minutes and was thrown in jail for something.

No, you came here to *****. Learning was incidental.

    That.

I don't think people should be so full of sophism. The OP was so full of ignorance that it was humorous, yet OPer still wants to spin things in an effort to save face. I don't see any real reason to do this; especially on the internet. Well... there is that trolling.

Let me expand this idea a bit. When one says something fallacious or evidently untrue and another brings said to light, then one should join the forming reality and subscribe. It is damaging to one's persona to do otherwise, because one will feel that they have won some sort of game. Communication is rarely a game that is not known beforehand by all parties that involves deception; if it is, then some sort of social engineering as manipulation is occurring. A good response to one by another to such (in the Wild West) would be a punch to one's face. Also, it is not clever to misspeak or create an inappropriate rejoinder and then claim it was in jest or a hoax; as in, "I was just kidding", "I was ****ing with you.", or "I was trolling." It is unlikely that another is fooled and that one will just be considered by another to have no integrity.

One can communicate however they want. They do not communicate in deceptive ways based on being clever. They do it because they are ignorant and scared. It's okay to be wrong and to learn. It's okay to admit to being wrong about something. It's even okay to be frustrated about a video game running badly on a specific computer and then raging about it on-line.

We all must develop an intellectual basis to achieve the ability to think critically of all things to include ourselves. Only when these conditions are met, do we have some sort of slight free will. The world will never be ideal until all people work towards that.

Why is this person so entitled? MINECRAFT is the Crysis of Java games.

    FPS: Frames Per second.
At less than 30 fps, the human eye can single out new images being drawn on the screen. At greater than 72 fps, it is perceived the same as natural vision.

I'm not really trying to take issue with your statement, because I've read the same thing and I'm sure everyone would agree 30fps is just dandy. But, I think all U.S. theater film projectors (movies) are showing 24 frames a second and shutter the image between "frames". I perceive smooth video in theaters. I know there's some other factors that come into play with the differences between different technologies and so on. I would hope to play a game with a t least ~18fps... you know, in hard times...

Well, im not sure about this, but i think movies have a lot of motion blur which makes you see smoother images at lower FPS. Also, a tip that helped me:
    go into your bios...[/s]

You have a good point there. Especially with film, there is a motion blur captured which emulates (to me) how we perceive real motion. I've always loved motion blur in games; I would like to see more interesting things done with motion blur in games. Shadow of the Colossus (sp) comes to mind. I read in some magazine that the developers added motion blur to hide a lower frame rate. I think that's not why SotC has motion blur and thought of the magazine as retarded because it must take some processing to do some motion blurring.

    I'm just rambling.

    1. Java is a very slow language, if Notch made Minecraft in C, C++, C#, it would have been insanely faster.

    Wut?

    Right on; wut.

The impression or subscription (belief) that Java is invalid "for games" or whatever isn't really "founded" as I understand it. We live in a time were people need to stop repeating bullcrap their dad or other random internet 12 year old says. It's just sophism.

Let's pretend that the Java overhead is a significant problem with MINECRAFT. So...

Yeah... It doesn't matter. The same game optimized in C whatever probably still would run badly on a crappy computer as I understand it.

Has he tried it with anti-aliasing off? lul I'm just saying. baby thread :Notch: :Diamond: :SSSS: :iapprove:

Seriously it is ****ing horrible. I understand that playing on a laptop with no graphics card is not ideal, but it shouldnt be THAT bad. i have an intel i3 which should be more then enough processing power for a 16 bit game. it dosnt matter if its smp or singleplayer, i am constantly hit with debilitating lag, while i sit next to my roomate playing WoW cataclysm on an i5 with no visable lag and smooth as hell, awesome graphics. **** JAVA!!!!!

Im no computer science major, but seriously wtf? that does not add up. I beleive that the whole code should be re written in a different language, something more friendly to anything besides an alienware auroa.

The point of this post is to ask if anyone if they have a similar problem, and also to ask the praticality of rewriting minecraft in a different code. Lets say notch hired some code monkeys to translate and smooth everything over. Is that pratical? Would it help? Would it take a long time? Any information would be nice

SINCE ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE BITCHING ABOUT RAM I HAVE 4 gigs of ram

but also i can run emmulated n64 games without a problem, full screen. Whats the deal with that?

Hey, thanks for reminding me to exclude the .minecraft folder from Norton scans on my Lenovo netbook that runs Minecraft just fine. You see, I'm some crazy that still likes Norton's Internets Securitations and I just installed a new version.

Java isn't crap. It's what it is. Someone that knows Java well made a cool game by themselves that is in Alpha. How do you think you sound to that person? I'm not your dad, but... come on...

If the game were to be reprogrammed, I would think whatever Adobe has been developing for 3D "flash" games to work in a browser would be a good canidate; as Minecraft seems to have a whole runs-in-a-browser thing going for it.

N64 games don't have textures. lul

the wireless internet isnt working, it got completely deleted from the pc

I often have a very hard time trying to explain to someone how any sort of network devices work with each other. Hell, sometimes I can't get Windows PC A to see Windows PC B. Then, I restart PC A and it works.

Are you saying that you aren't connecting to your home wireless network? Restart your router. Restart something.

If there was a movie about the internet, the poster would read like this:

    THE INTERNET
    Restart something.

Otherwise, I suppose something could have happened to the internet... The Internet. Ah, I love that internet. Hey, right now (well, not right now, but when I was typing this) my internet is (was) down. It's because the phone lines around here support 3 megaBITS per second at 99% capacity. This is in a populated area. Pretty ****, I know. My internet can cut in and out when the temperature changes because the capacity of the metal in the wire changes with humidity and temperature... I guess. There's more to this fiasco. It's impossible to deal with. There's no way for my internet to not be garbage.

I am moving to a different state altogether soon, though. So, if your computer is still acting up, try moving to a different state.
