1. Create a zip
2. Put anything in it.
3. Extract files.
4. When it asks you where to extract the files to, extract them to youdirectory\.minecraft2
5. Move everything from .minecraft to .minecraft2
6. ???
7. profit.
Windows will not let you make a folder with a '.' normally.
There are probably some switches you can use in a batch file to make it work...
It's possible to use abuse the zip extractor to make files with names that start with a "." but that isn't what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to GET RID OF THE "."!
.folder-->dotfolder
Without changing an application's ability to use the folder.
I'm not sure you understood what I'm getting at. Some programs generate .folders, which cause me problems. I want to trick those programs into thinking that .folder exists, so they store their data in dotfolder instead.
It's a deeper issue than just renaming. If I were to rename my .minecraft folder to dotminecraft and try to play, I would find all of my stuff gone, because the game didn't see a .minecraft folder and made a new (empty) one.
I need a way to make all of my bin, saves, and such be stored in a folder that doesn't have a "." in front of it. If you know of a way to do this, please tell me.
I need a method to do this for several reasons. Using Minecraft as an example:
I tried using:
set APPDATA\.minecraft=%CD%\dotminecraft
This is a splendid addition to Minecraft. There are MANY mods that add ores, but this is the first one that is an interesting expansion rather than a useless addition.
After thinking about this for a bit, it occurred to me that messing with the /give command might cause confusion. I would suggest leaving the give command as it is and adding a /givemod command that works as described.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch, an Easter-egg or whatever, but it works. I have the opposite problem: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/920585-any-way-to-make-folder-called-dotfolder/

If your taking suggestions I think it would be really cool if Herobrine's scouts tried to destroy light sources.
