My fantasy Troll character with special articulated face! If you hit shift to sneak, his eyebrows go up. If you look downward and sneak, it looks like he's yelling! XD

I didn't even place a block, I just looked at the ground and placed doors. I guess the only other blocks near by are fences to keep them in one spot. This could be a change in the new snapshot version 12w08a but I doubt it. Anyway, like I said before, try it out for yourself and you'll see it works just fine.

I tested it today and it worked perfectly. No walls or solid blocks are necessary except the ground. Also that image doesn't have blocks above the doors. Try it out!

And with 15 doors I get 5 villagers. It's a THIRD as many villagers as doors apparently. Also, they don't even have to be able to reach the doors, the just have to be nearby.

You only need doors to get them to repopulate. You don't even need walls. However in my experiments, they don't ever seem to quite reach half of the number of doors. With 12 doors, I get 4 villagers...

Cactus can naturally spawn 5 high. I'm not sure if they now grow to 5 high or not, but I've never seen a 5 high cactus naturally before so... cool.

Severs don't get Mods, only your individual minecraft client uses them. Instead, you want plug-ins. Go to Bukkit.org to start modifying your server.

I've been trying to do the same thing myself, and before you guys say "just copy and replace the files into a single player map folder" I've tried it several different ways and it doesn't work. The single player map ignores the .dat file and simply re-builds the world from scratch.

Use a map editor program to replace the area of the bad chunk with something else? Maybe?

Or fence it off and make sure no one goes near it...
