Looks like its definitly a graphic card problem. Try updating any drivers, and turn off any antialising in the settings
also, it would help to know what specs your graphic card is, and how much memory it has
you truly are a genius, i tell you that. You dont have to listen to me about this, but here's an idea...
Why dont you make your own "minecraft" ? Start from 1.6.4, and just code it any way you like? i mean.. just wow. I am very impressed. (here i was, proud that i added a drinking animation to mushroom soup instead of the vanilla eating animation xD)
you don't have to.. it's just an idea. I mean, you could start a blogspot, or a tumblr, and just.. code. for fun. maybe take ideas from others in your little community, have some people make graphics for you, just a small little group of follows.. like minecraft in the old days..
mobs spawn the same amount in all difficulties (except peaceful of course) you just must have bad luck. In hard, they have a harder A.I., they do more damage, and have a higher chance to spawn with armour/weapons, and spiders have a higher chance to spawn with a potion effect
whoa whoa whoa. hold up- why are there so many people saying it WON'T run?? i have an 8 year old laptop, and i can run minecraft, with the highest settings, fine. my laptop is dual core, 1.4 ghz, 2gigs of ram, running ubuntu 14.04. i get an average 60 FPS. your minecraft should run fine.
1. Get java runtime. Look in the ubuntu application shop. (java 7)
2. open the terminal (ctrl-alt t) and run these commands
4. place it on your desktop, or the preferred place to have it, right click on it, and click the check box "allow executing file as program"
double click on the file, log into your account, and it should work fine
EDIT: a good way to increase the performance(at least on my laptop) is to change the proprietary driver. Go to system settings, double click on "Software & Updates", click on the tab on top called "Additional Drivers" and click on your preferred graphic driver.
That's just a chunk rendering error.. Not much you can really do, im not exactly what causes it, but i believe it to be either slow processors, or a lower memory for your graphic card. There is some setting is optifine, that on certain computers, can make that happen. Try turning advanced open GL off
@yoursinceraly What OS are you running? and how long have you had it installed? because when i run on windows, minecraft is unplayable, but with linux, i have have the max render distance, max graphics, and ect with no lag.

i also forgot to mention the graphic card, which is probably important-Nvidia 8400m, 512mb graphic memory

And i run minecraft just fine. an average of 60 FPS. Its not 1.8, its the computer.
