minepenguincraft posted a message on Improving Cookies

    Cookies are, Quite frankly. Useless.

They're not worth the food ratio compared to other "Growables", You gotta grow 2 separate things, and each cookie gives you barely any hunger, So, Excluding as a collectible item, what's the point? You might as well grow bread!

I can fix this with a simple engine tweak!

A single cookie, currently takes as long to eat as a steak.

That doesn't make sense. Cookies are a snack food. I should be able to stuff 50 in my mouth at once.

    So, here's the idea.

Give cookies a negligible eat time. eat them as fast as you can click.

This time,. Pvp Servers can give out rations that are instant. This way, you can pop a mouthful of cookies with the undead army pounding at your door. No cool-down!

    Example Vid:

Insta-Cookies should be added to Minecraft!

immediately posted a message on Rancraft Penguins: Seventeen Species
    v1.7.10q
    18 August
For a full description of each penguin species and all the other features of this mod, including armor, weapons, and crafting recipes, go to the Rancraft Penguins Wiki, developed and primarily maintained by randalpik.

    Thanks to:
    CaveJohnson212 for translating to Russian
alex212058 for translating to Chinese (traditional characters)

Rancraft Penguins adds seventeen different species of penguins to your world:
    • Emperor Penguins
    • King Penguins
    • Yellow-Eyed Penguins
    • Magellanic Penguins
    • Galápagos Penguins
    • African Penguins
    • Chinstrap Penguins
    • Gentoo Penguins
    • Macaroni Penguins <= new
    • Humboldt Penguins
    • Adélie Penguins
    • Rockhopper Penguins <= new
    • White-Flippered Penguins
    • Little Blue Penguins
    • Flame Penguins
    • Ninja Penguins
    • Butt Penguins

    The configuration file
The first time you use this mod, it will generate RancraftPenguins.cfg, which allows you to set the following parameters:
    • Spawn frequency of each species. The result of changing these numbers isn't always what you would expect, but generally, a higher number increases the probability of that species spawning relative to the others.
    • How often healthy penguins call. Penguins can get pretty noisy, especially if you tame several of them. Setting this parameter to a number less than nine will give you some relief from the noise.

A few facts about Rancraft Penguins

    1. They can be tamed and bred
A tamed Emperor Penguin with its chick.

    2. Penguin armor and weapons
Rancraft Penguins adds four enchantable weapons and several types of armor with special characteristics (swim speed, air use, etc.). The most powerful of the penguin weapons is the Flame Penguin Repeater, which shoots regular arrows and is fully automatic, although the Penguin Katana and Shurikens have their "good points" as well.

    3. A good seed for Ice Plains (and also Ice Plains Spikes!)
Many of the penguins are coastal, but four species (Emperor, King, Chinstrap, and Ninja) only spawn in frozen biomes. In Minecraft 1.7.2, using the seed "derp" will spawn you in an Ice Plains biome. If you travel 260 blocks west along the coastline, you will find the rare Ice Plains Spikes biome.

LupusX posted a message on 9 biome suggestions (pictures)
-- We have made it into Minecraft 1.7! --

My main goal with this post was to make the community interested in more biomes so that Mojang would prioritise that aspect in their busy schedules. And it seems we have finally made it happen! Additionally we also got 2 of my suggestions into the game, which of course is fantastic.

    ---------------------------------

    Blossom Grove

Now put down your guard and enjoy the moonlight in this mob free but oh so rare environment. Unfortunately, the underground isn't as peaceful. If you are lucky you will also encounter a deserted old vineyard for some delicious grapes. This rare fruit replenish only 0,5 hunger each, but they are all eaten at the same time, making it the quickest but most expensive food source.

Rumours say the farmers have noticed crops grow faster.

    Old version:

    Oasis
Take your horse and embark on a journey to discover the Orient. These warm and barren deserts might contain a scarce amount of watering wholes, a common place to find various merchants with donkeys full of goods to trade. Make sure to have your wallet full, for these rare goods cannot be acquired elsewhere.

    Fungi Biome
The luminescent mushrooms proves to be a perfect, yet mystique light source in the deep caves of the underworld. Rumours speak about small glowing angler-fishes that thrive in nearby underground lakes.

Thanks to Hansentale for the inspiration.

    Tropical Islands
Palm trees grow on the beaches of these plant rich atoll islands located on the great oceans. Breaking palm leaves spawn coco nuts, which are an essential food source out here.

    Savannah - IMPLEMENTED IN 1.7
In the never ending terrain of the African wilderness, animals thrive in the shadows of the acacia trees. Clay is commonly found in nearby watering holes.

Wild West desert - IMPLEMENTED IN 1.7
This arid landscape consists of a new reddish stone, and a new matching sandblock*. Lone wanderers need to watch out for the vultures, for they will attack any trespasser carrying raw meet.

*)The sandblock is not present in this screenshot since it's very time consuming covering the grounds.

    Autumn forest biome
A colourful forest arises as you continue your exploration. No one in these woods will ever starve, as the ripest apples fall from the trees and the ground is covered by mushrooms galore!

    Frost biome
A cold breeze caught the landscape by surprise, which immediately froze the tiniest straw of grass. Make sure you wear some armour, or you will soon be history.

    Darklands

The sky darkens as you enter this gloomy realm. A great challenge awaits the one who seek to face the death. Now grab your diamond equipment, you will need it.

Risugami posted a message on Risugami's Mods - Updated.
Everything updated for 1.6.2. The mods directory will now be located in the same directory as minecraft jar, unless the default game directory is changed, where it will act like it had on older versions.

Read this entire post. All of it. Downloading the mods means you agree to the disclaimer. You can skip the FAQ, but if you have an issue, consult it first, before consulting us. If you have an issue answered in the FAQ or this post itself, we won't help you. At all. We reserve the right to ignore dumbasses who do not pay attention to the big bold text. Completely and utterly, ignore them. To all of you who are good boys and girls, I suggest you ignore them too, should they post.

Modding now has its own IRC channel on esper.net, #risucraft.

Disclaimer: These mods require altering minecraft.jar, and SMP may not work with these mods installed. Some of these mods add new content, do not load worlds with this new content if the respective mod is not installed. I am not responsible for any damage done to your computer, worlds, or your copy of Minecraft. That said, backup your worlds and bin folder!

Q: How do I install ModLoader?

-A: Because you can't read. What part of "read this whole post" did you not understand?

Q: Why does my game freeze on the loading screen?
-A: The most likely answer is you forgot to delete META-INF, or your archive tool didn't want to delete it.

Q: Why does my game black screen?
-A: There are a number of reasons this could happen, the most likely is that you're trying to play alpha through the browser. Mods don't work with the browser version. I do not care about black screens. Get me the error log. Follow the instructions under the "Linux / Other" download on www.minecraft.net. This applies to all OS.

Q: Do these mods work with [older version]?
-A: No, they are designed for Minecraft 1.6.2.

Q: How come 7z throws out "Not implemented" OR WinRAR gives me an error when I try to add stuff to the jar?
-A: Update 7-Zip or close Minecraft.

Q: How do I uninstall the mods?
-A: You restore from a backup of minecraft.jar, and in case you didn't back it up, delete the version file in the bin folder, and Minecraft will redownload everything.

-A: Update java. On mac? Too bad.

    Q: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: ______ : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
-A: Either get JRE 7 or tell mod creator to not use JDK 7.

Q: How can I best contact you?
-A: In the channel #risucraft, on the esper.net IRC.

    ModLoader 1.6.2
A mod, kind of like a mod manager, that stops conflicts with mods that alter rendering, recipes, add entities, gui, smeltables or fuel. If you're a modder, feel free to decompile this and learn how to make mods work with it. Inherit BaseMod and override any methods as necessary. The mod's main class file should be prefixed with 'mod_'. Read the Javadoc for information on methods available.

    Elemental Arrows 1.6.2
The Elemental Arrows mod adds four new types of arrows; explosive arrows, fire arrows, ice arrows, and a joke weapon, egg arrows.. They are crafted the same way as normal arrows, but the head is replaced based on the element; gunpowder for explosive, coal for fire, snowball for ice, and egg for, well, egg. Crafting an explosive arrow only gives you one arrow, and it explodes upon impact. Crafting a fire arrow gives you one arrow, that will ignite stuff upon impact. Crafting an ice arrow gives you one arrow, that will freeze water into ice, lava springs into obsidian, put out fire, and break torches. Egg arrows spawn chickens upon impact with the ground, but there's a secret too. Lightning arrows strike lightning where ever they hit, use diamond in recipe. Homing bow recipe is same layout as regular bow, but diamond instead of sticks. Requires ModLoader 1.6.2.

    AudioMod 1.6.2(Not updated for now)
AudioMod is an upgrade of sorts, and a modder's utility. Included in this mod is CodecIBXM, created by Paul at www.paulscode.com, who is the creator of the sound system used in Minecraft. It allows Minecraft to play (in addition to ogg, wav, and mus files), xm, s3m, and mod files. The only readily available feature of this mod is the ability to add new music, however, it adds support for modders to add new records and sound effects. There is a slight increase in load time when using this mod. Using this, you can also use custom sounds, alongside the originals. Custom music and sound goes into the resources folder, music in mod/music. Custom sounds go into mod/sound. For example, if I were to add a new footstep sound effect to stone, I'd put the new stone1.ogg in mod/sound/step. In game, the new sound would occasionally be played, alongside the originals. Custom sounds for things like the menu click and water do not always work, at the moment.

    Floodgate 1.6.2
Floodgate block can be used as either a floodgate, allowing toggleable water and lava falls, or as a trapdoor. When you place the floodgate control block, it will place a gate in front of the control block in the direction you are facing. Applying redstone power to this will remove the gate. Use the control block to open the GUI where you can place supporting blocks that will replace how the gate looks. Requires ModLoader 1.6.2.
    The recipe:
    :stone: :stone: :stone:
    :stone: :Red: :stone:
    :stone: :stone: :stone:
    Where :Red: is redstone.

    Spawner GUI 1.6.2
Adds a GUI to all mob spawners, that will allow you to pick what mob to spawn. I also reallowed mining spawners. You can disable spawners with redstone aswell. Should be compatible with all mobs, but don't expect the mobs with special spawn conditions to work everywhere. Animals require grass, Monsters require darkness, Slimes require being in their special chunks, and 0-16 depth. Requires ModLoader 1.6.2.

    Biosphere 1.6.2
This is a new generator. You may select this generator in More World Options when creating world. In this generator, the world is made up of massive spheres with glass domes. Inside these spheres are random biomes. There is a random chance of a lake being placed in the center of each sphere. Usually water, but rarely lava. Bordering this lake you will find sand for water, or gravel for lava. Connecting each sphere is a wooden bridge with fence rail. Beside each sphere is a smaller sphere, which is where you will find diamond and lapis lazuli. These ores only occur here, the others are equally spread throughout the spheres. The cave generator used here is a modified Nether cave generator, where like on the surface, will generate lava below a certain level. if this lava reaches the outside, an obsidian wall will be made to hold it in. Many options can be changed in ".minecraft/config/Biosphere.cfg". Requires ModLoader 1.6.2.

    Armor Stand 1.6.2
This block will give you a place to show off your armor. Just place the block and right click on the platform. You can choose from a selection of skins to hold your armor, as well as have it stare at you, constantly. You may also change the texture of platform by putting block in the last slot. Known issues include: placing a block inside of dummy, standing on its head, possible inability for mobs to path around it. Recipe is 3 solid stone blocks along bottom, with 2 sticks in the middle. Requires ModLoader 1.6.2.

ChadGarion25 posted a message on Simple Feather Solution - Chickens drop more Feathers
    Suggestion Statement
IF feathers are too hard to feasibly amass in Minecraft Survival
THEN the best solution is to make them drop a minimum of 1 feather and a maximum of 4 - 10 that can be adjusted to balance

I've seen two topics recently advocating for a tool, similar to sheers, that would allow you to renew ably extract feathers from chickens. This is appalling and wrong. Chickens, and indeed very few birds, can have their feathers removed without great pain, bleeding, infection, and death. Now I'm not a PETA moron; games are games and Mario does not advocate the death of endangered species. But I am an aspiring Engineer and I see that there is an underlying need here that's not being answered efficiently.

All these Topics cry out a feather deficiency:
    Shearing for Feathers
    Pluck-Able Chickens
    More Feathers
    A 'Practical' Use for Birds
    Shearing Chickens!
Birds - Our New Feathery Friends?
    MORE BIRDS!
    Easier Way to Make Arrows
    No-Kill Chicken Feathers
    The Ability to Sheer Chickens

So let us assume that there is a legitimate need for obtaining more feathers. Obviously, if this is not the case, we don't need to change anything. You can argue we either need more feathers or don't, but if we need more feathers, there is a single solution.

The answer is simple, pure, easy-to-code, aesthetically pleasing, mechanical feasible, and short to explain:

Chickens should drop a larger number of feathers upon death, a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4 -10 depending on game balance

It's simple - change the code specifying the number of feathers to have a greater quantity

It makes Sound, Logical Sense - A chicken in real life would probably drop dozens of feathers of a size and quality that could be used as a crafting material

It's Aesthetically Pleasing - Even the topic stating No-Kill Chicken Feathersargues that killing a chicken for two feathers seems cruel, they were so close to the answer. We aren't torchering chickens for renewable feathers, we are giving them a clean death for a reasonable amount of product.

It's Easily Adjustable - Too many feathers or too few? Future updates can easily dial down on the correct feather drop range to prevent it from being broken.

    Additional Concept - 2/23/12
Suggested by a few posters including Nexus_Leonon, Chickens would have the ability to randomly Moult or drop a feather similar to how they currently produce eggs. I'm not fond of this idea however because it copies the otherwise unique mechanic held by the chicken and I feel that when a large number of chickens are breed it would lead to an overproduction of feathers without any cost (which is to say killing a chicken requires you to breed more with wheat while Moulting requires no input for output). Also, any feathers discarded in this fashion, in a real life situation, would never be used as arrow fletching because they would be damaged, old, decomposing, and asymmetrical.

    Related, but Off-Topic Issue
I haven't updated the OP in a while and during that time a number of issues have been brought up as to why we would or wouldn't need more feathers. While this isn't the objective of my suggestion (which is "If we need more feathers, this is how to fix it"), I feel I should bring up these points to the OP so I don't feel like I'm repeating myself or more importantly, contradicting myself.

The Arrow Pointing to the Underlying Issue

So Annon pointed out recently and it's totally correct that you only really need feathers for crafting two items; Book and Quill, and Arrows. Clearly Book and Quill hardly requires a chest full of feathers to craft so if it were the only item you could craft with feathers then we wouldn't need any of the changes I've suggested. However, arrows are crafted from feathers and I therefore the only reason a player would need a lot of feathers. So since arrows are what create a possible demand for feathers, we should address the second way of obtaining arrows; killing skeletons and taking them from their re-dead bodies.

    Beating Bones for Bows

The idea is that you can farm skeletons to get more arrows than from obtaining raw materials and crafting them. This is very true and is one of the main points people bring up as to why we don't need more feathers. I personally think however that this isn't the way it should be; skeletons should be changed to only rarely drop arrows. Combine this change with my other proposal and we would have a system where crafting arrows is the norm and finding them on skeletons is a rare coincidence.

Why shouldn't we farm skeletons for arrows? Just as skeletons will rarely drop bows now, so too should they scarcely drop arrows. Think about it like this; when a player shoots an arrow, they can retrieve it from the ground. Logically, this means that the arrow you shot wasn't damage or broken; it was sturdy and well made. Skeletons shoot arrows that you can't retrieve however. Their arrows are moldy, rotten, and generally unfit. The only chance you have of reclaiming arrows from a skeleton is by finding that rare arrow that hasn't been shot and isn't completely defunct. This isn't a realism argument, it's a logical, aesthetic explanation of why an existing mechanic functions. So you should only farm skeletons for items they have in abundance, such as bones, as apposed to their crooked, termite infested arrows.

I'm not advocating that we shouldn't farm hostile mobs or even that we shouldn't farm skeletons. Skeletons already give a unique drop that has a variety of utility, consumable uses in the form of bones (taming wolves) and bone meal (white dye, fertilizer). I think that's quite enough for them alone without making them the best resource for arrows.

    Flint and Feather Flock Together

Since we established above that feathers are really about crafting arrows, then the next issue that arises is flint. Flint is a rather limited and hard to obtain resource, perhaps an even bigger issue than obtaining feathers due to the fact it's used to craft a degradable tool as well. However, since the addition of trading with villagers gave us the ability to pay a Testificate to turn gravel into flint, I think this is much less of an issue. Gravel may not be renewable the same way feathers are, but it's the same thing with all ores and it's solve the same way; dig farther and deeper till you find new gravel/ore.

However, I have a solution to both the flint and feather problem, if it exits, that is similar to may main suggestion:

IF both feathers and flint are too hard to feasibly amass in Minecraft Survival
THEN the simplest solution is to increase the number of arrows crafted from a single recipe to 6 - 16 that can be adjusted for balance

This solves both the feather and the flint problems and is very simple to implement. I don't have this as my main solution because I only recently formulated it and because Flint might not be an issue so much anymore with the recent changes coming in 1.3. It's also not the most aesthetically pleasing issue; I think that getting 4 arrows each time you craft makes logical sense, which means the proper way to solve this problem aesthetically is to fix obtaining feathers and flint separately. I have presented the feather solution, but the flint one is not as clear to me, which is why I've focused on the feathers originally.
