I tried 256 and it was pretty laggy
tried the enhanced 256 and it just went black screen
I have dual evga gtx275 superclock with 896 ram
    might not be enough ram?

Make sure your distance is set to Normal, as higher-res textures can cause it to black screen easily. Dual video cards in Minecraft won't be supported so that won't help with performance.

I'm running a gtx470 so I'm sure it'll do fine on mine. Do you have a test 256x of yours I could try? Or you just tried Enhances ?

And also your vidRAM is fine for this game, but 256x256 on a BETA game, it's hard to say. My card has 1.2GB of memory and handles the game quite well. I never bought into the dual video card stuff well, sadly not all games support it fully but some games do support it quite well, I just don't play any of those games that support it fully :/

neither of the download links work

Yea just redid the ores, they looked awful lol

Do a 'very' small Bevel emboss on the minerals and a shadow (fade the shadow and take them down to 2 setting). that'll bring them out much more. I HATE Bevel Emboss (those who started out using Photoshop used the HELL out of that feature) but when used correctly it can look very nice.

Only reason I use shadows (VERY light shadowing) is to give them depth.

I can assure you that $20 for a 128x128 creation is a 'lot' of work from ground up. There are quite a few texture packages already out there, though you mentioned you didn't like some of them. I would check out the following ones, as these are some of the best ones I have seen.

    Here are my favorites:

    Seamless
    viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=114907

    Enhanced
    viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=67932

    Sanguine
    viewtopic.php?f=25&t=77265

LB Photo Realism (however VERY dark)
    viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=136785

Peasant's (still a work in progress though)
    viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=125030

    AaGeOn's
    viewtopic.php?f=25&t=65936

Those currently are by far the best out there, (my opinion though) and are updated by their creators quite often. They some creative folks.

6th - Run the game in "Normal" view distance only, game does not work well with "Far"

does on my computer...... fancy n far..... doesnt lag at all! *blows a raspberry in ur general direction*

3 grand for a computer?!?!?! pffffff mine cost £90 (thas uk money fyi) n runs the game better!

if u want a decent computer, talk to my b/f, he comes up with the BEST specs

Fancy setting is fine. The reason many, like myself, run the game in "Normal" distance is because the game tends to "Fade to Black" and crash. With "Far" turned on my system handles the game fine, performance wise, but as I said, will end up crashing -- just a bug on some peoples systems.

It's just a temporary fix until Notch fixes the black screen of death fix.

While your choice of topic title might be debatable, have you looked at your Nvidia control panel settings?

I have similar components to your machine (not as crazy as yours!) and I get 300 ish FPS with little or no issues. Have you changed any of the Nvidia settings such as v-sync or pre-rendered frames? I kept my setting for Minecraft at stock and haven't had any problems. I know for some other more graphically intense games, forcing v-sync on smoothed things over for me, as long as you can maintain a good frame rate. But I'm pretty sure Minecraft doesn't do too well with forced settings for things like anti-aliasing and such.

Just for reference this is what I have:

    Corei7 (930) Overclokced to 3.5 Ghz
    Win 7 Pro 64-bit
    6 GB ram
Nvidia GTX 470 (I think it has around a GB of onboard memory)

YMMD. I turned of vsync in the nvidia settings and now i have avg 300 fps. Thx dude

    Edit: nvm, you misspelled "off"

1st - Minecraft does not use DirectX, it is an OpenGL game

2nd - Deinstall Java32Bit if you have that installed and use IE64bit to go and download the Java64bit version (I only say use the 64bit browser to ensure you get the right package)

3rd - Don't try adjusting the game memory (if you have tried) as this makes it run worse

4th - As others have said, ensure that ALL of your drivers on your entire system have been updated

    5th - Re-check 4th (above)

6th - Run the game in "Normal" view distance only, game does not work well with "Far"

7th - Turn on Limite Frame Rate, this does help

Try those and see how things go.

Edit: Also if you are walking around in the game (traveling and checking out the world) the game will lag NO MATTER what. The games code is quite crappy when loading and unloading chunks sadly. Maybe it'll be fixed soon, who knows. It is BETA afterall :smile.gif: I'm sure late this year the game will be phenomenal! We'll see! :smile.gif:

hmm AA gives me translucent edges and other bad things for some reason D:

Interesting, I don't get that. However I am using a GTX 470 and forcing them. (I'm running Windows XP 64bit, so I have to force the "Javaw.exe" file and not the "Minecraft.exe" file to force AA/AF, XP is flakey)

Here's a screen shot (with the new minerals in the distance) of your package with 32X AA and 16X AF:

Edit: No clue why I can't get 1920x1080 screen shots to fully show through PhotoBucket, frustrating!

I have them saved in layers so I'm good. Safe to download your new version and modify ?

Also just force on AA & AF and no more pixelated look on that gravel :smile.gif:

EDIT: updated the Work Bench to reflect Sanguine Texture Package

EDIT2: Oh you said "soon" hehe, ignore me I'm very sleepy today
