Modified it now to have it back up your old jar when you upgrade to a new version, the modded one of course, it's saved in minecraft/oldjars. It also now uses mctmp from the desktop.

It asks for Growl's location at the end if Growl isn't installed. It doesn't pop a notification at the end if Growl is installed.

    Hi.
I'd like to make some SPC specific mods, is there a workaround for getting SPC to work with MCP 4.3?

    Thanks

First. Are you talking about a physical server or the server software? If you are talking about the physical server even if he does put the server together himself he still has to buy the parts. if you are talking about the server software then he doesn't have to pay a cent for the best software out there. Apache, the software he should be using not this java ********, IS FREE.

The auth server does not use Java. It's most likely a standard rack server, running Apache. The js extension means JavaScript, and is a valid choice, as the only output is '0' or the error code.

Wrong the server uses java. The server outputs java style errors and the response headers indicate that it's a java based server.

You're either admitting to poking the server in places you shouldn't, or you're fibbing. Either way, I know what's correct and don't need to convince you of it.

Redundancy. Has Mojang heard about it? The auth server, being critical to online play, needs at least 3 layers of redundancy. That way, when the first server fails, the second automatically steps in. If the second fails, the third automatically steps in. Ingenious eh? No, just standard stuff for important hardware.

Mojang, Please hire some consultants to design an efficient system, the one you've got isn't much good.

    Use a laptop it's free :tongue.gif:
I know using a laptop works because i know people who host 24/7 server with their own laptop.
But make sure the laptop cooling system good enough.

That's hogwash. Even if it were a feasible solution it has no place in this thread.

    First of all .. Beancounters?

Yes, beancounters. It will list things like the number of times a process has failed. Are you running the stock server, as in without mods? What plan are you on? There are a couple ways to get you to a semi-playable state, even with Haze.

The first thing I would do is ask tech support if they are restricting Java applications in any way.

Had a VPS for about a week with Hazenet, it's died twice now and theres no way to bring it up other than opening a support ticket and waiting.
I'm a rather adept user when it comes to linux CLI and hosting, so it really annoys me that all I can do is twiddle my thumbs until they re-start the server.

Edit: On the note of limiting ram usage... I had THOUGHT it was wierd I couldnt give an upper limit of 3Gig when I am paying for dedicated 3G memory...
Wonder what else I payed for that I;m missing...

Regarding downtime, have you tried restarting via the control panel? The one you got a link to when you signed up.

OpenVZ is likely the reason for your crashes. A large, if not the main, attraction to OpenVZ is overselling resources. There's tons of reading on the subject, and it all boils down to Xen being much better for minecraft. The main issue concerning minecraft is ensuring all resources are available all the time, because you never know when your server will get 5 new users exploring new areas. I say all this assuming you read my rant above, they use privvmpages to limit your resources below what you've paid for and that should be a huge neon sign with a loudspeaker screaming "Bad Idea!".

I'd be interested to see a readout of your beancounters, specifically the fail counts.

What's the problem? Hazenet seems cool.
    Cool? More like cheap.

In a nutshell: They restrict the amount of ram Java can use, mine was restricted to ~100mb, The CEO is either clueless or not truthful about it, they have extremely poor customer service/quality assurance, and OpenVZ is awful at handling Java.

The problem is that HazeNet uses privvmpages to reduce the ram available to Java and doesn't tell you. The CEO denies doing it, instead insisting that it isn't their problem. The Senior Admin I had the pleasure of dealing with was a condescending asshole when I asked for the limit to be removed. They think it's OK to silently restrict the resources you pay for, that's a Big Problem.
I have the 2048 package, with 1TB @ 100mBit, and there is lag when I'm the only player on a small map. That's after they supposedly increased the privvmpages limit. I'm not the only one, look at all the people on this forum with negative experiences. That certainly says something isn't right.

If you want to host some files, or even run a web server, they might be a hair to positive side of a POS meter. I question their longevity though, as I know many people who've dropped them but not one person who's signed up.

citricsquid, can you elaborate on 'They're not a registered company'? Registered where?

Of course, this is just 1 experience. Maybe they dropped the ball and I was the only customer affected. If you have had a good experience with them, great. That's how it should be. The main attraction to Hazenet is their extremely low price, and you get what you pay for.

    Best company?
    http://www.hazenet.co.uk

Add mr colin to your msn, and talk with him about what you need. You'll get a hell of a deal I got mine for about 50% of the market price.

    My beast server specs are:
    4 e5530 cpu cores. equilevant of a 2.9 quadcore
16 gig burst ram, with half of that dedicated to me.
100/100 mbit connection. 1 TB bandwith (can be upgraded at anytime i wish for free. and no extra charge)
200 gig hdd, (can be upgraded at anytime i wish for free. and no extra charge)

All this for 95$ per month?. BEAST. Go get it.

R U related to Colin Dunn ? LoL.

You have an unadvertised custom server, call him Mr Colin, and have his msn. Honestly, it'd be weird if you weren't related.

Most people are experiencing abysmal results with hazenet, myself included. I got 3 different answers to the same question. A tech said "we have limited the usage.", a senior admin told me "Just go read Notch's document ion and you'll figure out why it is so resource intensive." and Mr Colin said "it's not our problem as other users have been able to fix the issue themselves with some sort of workaround."

first and foremost let me just say if your a mildly intelligent person it wont take you long to realize hazeNet is ****.

i have been using them for the last 3 months and the support guy is as useless as tits on a bull the server seems to just disapear for no reason and theres nothing i can do to get it back online. i have to message support and get him to fix it and that usally takes most of a day because he is a little fat kid that sits in a dark corner playing with him self all day long.

Ask them about PRIVVMPAGES. Hint: They limit the amount of ram accessible to java. A fraction of what you pay for.

Hazenet is the least professional company I've dealt with on the internet.
If you're thinking about using hazenet.co.uk, you might as well take a flame to your money. I realize there are some positive reviews of hazenet on these forums. Are any of them recent?
After days of trying to figure out why my server wouldn't use more than 100mb ram, ever, even if game play was suffering, a customer service rep confirmed that after having issues with a few clients using too much resources they put restrictions on all machines to limit the ram available to minecraft servers. I paid for 2gb ram and 2ghz cpu, and without informing me, they restricted my ability to use it. That alone is reason enough to avoid hazenet like the plague. When you add condescending upper level admins, and a CEO who denies usage limits, you'd be crazy to give them your money.

If your getting pains it means you have been playing for more than 2 hours straight.

2 hours? That's a rather arbitrary length of time. Many people can use a computer for much longer than 2 hours and not experience pain in their wrists.

I use Keyboard Express for commonly used commands and have a bot to do repetitive things.

Is there a way to delete chunks based on the number of times it has been loaded, MCEdit or otherwise? If a chunk as less than 10 loads its probably someone's useless exploration.
