Greetings everyone! After a brief hiatus awaiting the release of Minecraft 1.0, Crafters Realm is starting up again!

We currently have a Vanilla 1.0 server running for everyone to come and check out the performance of this dedicated Ubuntu Linux server. We can handle many users at once, so feel free to come and explore our server! You can join the server at the address craftersrealm.com .

Once Bukkit is updated, we will have a more structured server, with experienced administrators who know how to manage plugins and players to create a fun and exciting server environment.

Hope to see you on the server!

Are you kidding me? You can open wooden doors on enemy territory? That's just terrible! There is NO way I am joining this dumb server.

Fix - Don't use wooden doors for your base.

    Problem solved.

You have a space between the - and XMS. Also, I'm not sure it matters about the order, but you should put Xms before Xmx.

    The line should be:
    java -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Try that and the server should start right up.

    Also, your error:
    java -Xmx1024M - Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui
notice the space between - and xms

^solution already presented but not acknowledged.

Order isnt significant, though I can agree it is more practical and intuitive to order it with xms, xmx.

Heh, so it was hexparrot. :smile.gif:

Personally, I like using -Xincgc, because that tells Java to use the minimum memory necessary, but then have the -XmX line in there to control the maximum it can use.

That website, while informative, does not take CPU into consideration. There's definitely CPU time that needs to get used on a server as well.

I've been doing some spot-checking on my upstream usage on the server I'm running.

I'm covered for much more, because I have a 25 megabit upstream, but even with 16 people on and serving a web page with forums, I haven't seen my upstream usage go over 200kbits / sec.

the &# are colors. I don't have a list in front of me, but for example, &4 is red . &f is white. That's how the colors are changed.

Do you have the Permissions plugin?

You must have the Permissions plugin for iChat to work.

Ok so before I begin I followed the tutorials in every aspect...I've been working on this for a week.

At first I tried setting up a server on Windows 7 but after so many tries I read that I have to port forward which I have no access to the router I use. When I tried to run the server on W7 it "seemed" to be working fine but when I would log on the "map" would not load properly. It would be a constant fall with mobs jumping around in the distance. And sometimes it might load a little but you couldn't mine anything and it would only be a small section and you would reach a cliff you fall off of into the void.

So I dual boot Ubuntu and I've been looking at this since no tutorial mentions port forward on Linux. Unfortuantly in the terminal I get these errors:

    java -Xmx1024M - Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

    Results In:

    Unrecognized option: -
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

You need to have access to your home internet router, and forward the port your Minecraft server is running on to the local area network PC's IP address it's running on.

    Phizy,

You're setting up the Minecraft server on your school's local area network. You can all access it because you're all on the same local area network.

When you go home, you and anyone else trying to connect to the school are going to get blocked, because the school's router is not forwarding the port you're running the Minecraft server on.

If you have access to the router the school is using, you can forward the port to the machine you have the server running on.

    Otherwise, you're out of luck.

posted a message on How do I update Bukkit?
    Quote from Damien711 »
Thanks for the reply I dont want to sound like a douche but you haven't told me anything that I dont know. I know the difference between bukkit and craftbukkit and were to download the latest build. Im wondering were do I put the file I download from the link.

You asked how to update bukkit. By saying that, I have no idea that you know the difference between bukkit and craftbukkit, because as an end user, you will not use bukkit at all. That is why I gave the description of the difference between the two.

You asked how to update it. You did not say you knew how to get it or where it was located, so I gave the URL location for getting the latest version.

The one item I did leave out was where you put it. The reason for that is no one but yourself can answer that question, because no one else knows the directory structure of your server. The folder could be located anywhere, and named anything. I can say that the craftbukkit file will be located in the same directory that your world directory is in. However, because the world directory can be named anything as well, you would need to know its name also in order to determine its location.

Your best solution is to speak with the person who set up the server in the first place to determine the locations of all of these files.
