For people using Macs.

The mod (for some reason I do not know) only works on OSX 10.5 Leopard through MC Patcher. It may work through other mod loaders, but the only success I've had is through MC Patcher's "TEST" button, not launching through the normal minecraft launcher. For more detailed instructions, here's my post:

The mod works perfectly through OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard however. I just upgraded my OS today, and tried launching the modded copy of minecraft I had been playing through MC patcher. Everything launched properly through the normal app file, mod working and everything! Happy camper is happy. :SSSS:

I haven't tried going way back to my old OSX 10.4 Tiger disk, and I won't be getting OSX 10.7 Lion for a little while. I don't know what in the OS makes the difference, but the upgrade also fixed the home screen on the app for me. The news used to be all unformatted html code, but now I get the dirt background and pretty text. :smile.gif:

LEOPARD BLACK SCREEN OF DOOM FIXED!

In order to fix the black screen, I had to update my java and run minecraft through MCpatcher.

It was (or at least as far as I can tell is) a java version problem. I had Java version 1.4 and 5.0, but I needed 6 for it to work.

I downloaded this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL848 It is a Java update 4 for Leopard that contains java6 for 64 bit machines (not sure if you're 64 bit?). There are newer updates, and I'm currently downloading java update 10, but I don't know if this will make a big difference. Right now minecraft has to launch through MCpatcher, or it will BlackScreenOfDeath, maybe the latest java patch will fix this. It's a bigish download, so I'll update in a bit.

After downloading and installing the java update, you need to tell OSX to use the newer version of java as it's preferred version. Search in spotlight for "java" and the top hit should be the java preferences app (it's in applications/utilities if you don't like spotlight). Under the "general" tab of the java preferences, there is a list of your versions of java. "Drag SE 6 64-bit" to the top of the "Java Applications" pane ( i did this for both "java applications" and "java applet plugin" just in case). You can just exit, it saves these settings automatically.

Then open (or restart) MCpatcher. In the log at the top it should tell you your running java 1.6.0_13 (if you used update 4). extract the worldedit.jar file from the mod zip to you bin folder, then add the spc mod to mcp's list (i left everything else unchecked, so vanilla + spc) and click "patch".

The normal minecraft login doesn't work, but clicking the test button in mcp will fire up minecraft and the mod works!

Sorry this is so rambling, I tend to talk to much, and I'm tired and excited. Anyone feel free to rewrite this in a more concise manner. Java update 10 will be done downloading soon and i'll let you know if it fixes minecraft's normal login or not.

[UPDATE] I just noticed, when minecraft opens from MCpatcher, it says
Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 Unlicensed Copy : (
(Or logged in from another location)
Purchase at minecraft.net

idk what this has to do with all of it, but i'll go diving through mcp's log for more info.

It goes back and forth showing this and not showing it, idk.

[UPDATE 2]

So... I guess I have to download all the other java update packs :/ 10 said it needed 5 installed.. so i guess i'll probably need 6, 7, 8, and 9 too... fml... this will take a while to download, it's probably over a gig total. looks like there is no 6/7/8/9, it goes straight from 5 to 10... cause that makes sense.

Hmm, tough one. Question, about manual install. Did you remember to copy over the files again after it failed with just the mojang files? Also, the only mojang thing makes no sense to me, I would just delete the whole folder, or I've heard of other people renaming it. I've never owned a mac, so I'm not sure exactly what to do. You could try the new installer for SPC. Check page 616 on this thread.Reading your post a bit more, you say you rezipped the folder? I think I tried that once and it broke it for me, I assume because it was using a compression type that java couldn't read, which is why I drag the files directly into the .jar, At least before I started using an automatic installer, also make sure it's the minecraft.jar in the /bin folder, and not the one for the launcher.I'm not sure about the version error, are you using SPC v2.10_2? With Minecraft Beta 1.7.3? It's really important that you don't use one older than that.

Yes, I always made sure the one overlapping class file ("d" something if I remember) was overwritten by the mod's version.

For mac's, we're only supposed to delete two of the three files in the META-INF folder when we want to instal a mod. They both begin with "mojang". I tried deleting just those two, and deleting the whole folder multiple times both ways with no difference in results.

As far as zipping, on a mac you select all the files and folders (shift-click) and compress them, so all these files are in the root of the zip directory. If I was to zip the minecraft folder, then the root of the zip is a level up and then the game doesn't work. It's also possible to just change the name of the folder itself to "minecraft.jar" and it's still an open directory that can have files dropped in (at least on a mac). I've gotten other mods to work using both methods with no problems.

I checked all version numbers many times, I don't think I made any mistakes. :unsure.gif:

I'll take a look at page 616.

Quote from MindCaged

This is a tough one. Hang on, I just googled it. It seems like a version conflict with java, You seem to be running java 5, and SPC might be compiled for java 6, resulting in a version error. So either simo needs to recompile it in v5, which might not be so easy, I'm not sure if that's just a compiler setting or if he'd have to downgrade and hopefully not have to change the code, or you need to see if you can get a copy of java 6 that'll work on your machine. Regarding the 64-bit thing, I'm running java 6 and I'm on Win XP 32-bit, I'm not sure if you can get it for mac. You'll have to see about that.Oh, wait, I did a little further research. Do you know if your machine is intel-based? Because apparently the latest java 6 for mac seems to be designed for that.

I think this might be the same problem I was having since I'm also on Leopard with Java 5. Looking around a bit I think I may have found a Leopard update for java 6. According to this, java 6 is only for 64 bit macs, but I'm on an Intel Core 2 Duo, which is 64 bit, so I should be set. There are something like 10 different java updates to choose from, and idk if skipping to the last one is a good idea or not, but Ima give it a try. :SSSS:

So... I'm getting error messages when trying to install with loaders, and a black screen when I instal manually.

Specs:

• Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8
• Freshly installed OSX from yesterday (other reasons)
• Freshly installed (or forced updated) minecraft every time modding didn't work.
• Java versions J2SE 1.4.2 and 5.0 (5.0 set as default)

Manual attempts: (I made many of these before trying loaders, I didn't see the author made installers until much later):

• For all attempts I have deleted the "mojang" files in the META-INF folder, and also tried deleting the entire folder. I've read that on macs I should only delete the "mojang" files, but i tried it both ways anyway. I never left these undeleted as I've never read of a mod needing to have them left alone.
• Traditional unzipping of minecraft.jar then rezipping files and changing save name to minecraft.jar, and also leaving the folder unzipped, but labeled minecraft.jar. Both have worked in the past for me on other mods (all attempts to instal this mod have been from vanilla).
• I also used Stuffit Archive manger to delete META-INF stuff and drop the class files into the archive without ever unzipping it.
• I always put the worldedit.jar in the bin folder no matter what way I tried modifying minecraft.jar.
• Every single time I got a black screen.

Loaders/Installers
I tried using Minecraft Patcher 2.1.0_02, and only installing SPC, not bettergrass or anything else. I tried both letting it instal the readme and worldedit.jar into minecraft.jar, and also deleting those from the instal list. I manually placed the worldedit.jar into the bin folder both times. It would let me instal the mod, but trying to test run it from mcp, minecraft would crash and leave this in the mcp log:
MCPatcher version is 2.1.0_02

Trying to open minecraft after patching, without using the test function inside mcp, would result in the usual black screen after login.
Then I found the installer. I tried both version 10, and beta 11. Both would crash with an error message saying they couldn't be launched, and from the console, I got the same messages for both versions:

So it seems any way this is all the same problem, since all the ClassLoader.java:# are the same from error log to error log.
I don't see many other options left for me. :sad.gif:

Edit: Sorry for the wall of text, I put the code in spoilers to not be so obnoxious.

My best guess is my java isn't up to snuff, but I just checked for updates yesterday and osx is supposed to keep java up to date on it's own. Looking at the versions, there is 5.0 (1.5.0_30) in an update from apple, and I'm on 5.0 (1.5.0_13) according to MCP's log. I'm downloading this java update for 5.0 (1.5.0_30) that also includes 6 (1.6.0_26), but that's for 64 bit, and idk what Leopard will do with it. :/

Running clean install of minecraft (deleted entire app folder downloaded new zip) and unzipped minecraft.jar, deleted the META-INF and inserted the files (authorizing a couple overwrites) from ONLY the 1.3_01 mod. Compressed the files (not the folder) and saved as minecraft.jar, and replaced in game folder. Logged in and black screen of eternity. :SSSS: I'm guessing it's mac compatible.

For people wanting to map now, you might be able to use the old region decompression tool that came with the mod to convert it into the old file system and open in a mapper. I haven't tested if this is really doable, but it might be worth a try.

Funny how I asked for a region update a couple weeks before the region mod is integrated into the official release. Waiting patiently now :smile.gif:

Though I'm kinda pissed that the update reseeded my maps fresh without my creations. I kinda wanted to start from scratch, but I would have rathered it be my choice than minecraft's. I think it saved my old region files in another folder but i'm too lazy to use the terminal right now, I'll just start over in the same world.

regarding moving light sources, the Betterlight mod allows for moving light sources. You can hold a torch and it will light your way. I don't know if you'd be able to have an illuminated moving object, but it seems doable.

I have a correction to this previous statement. The moving light mod is enhanced by MrMessiah's betterlight (now integrated into the official release anyway, but the moving light mod is actually Cryect's handheld torch light: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=105332

It's only available for single player, and the latest update for beta 1.3_01 hasn't worked for me yet, but it's a step in the right direction.

Is this the 1.3_01 update supposed to be installed over the one in the first post as a patch, or is it stand alone? I noticed different number of files in them.

[edit]
either way it doesn't work for me, just hangs on a black screen after logging in. I installed mcregion and optimine, then tried installing bettergrass/betterlight (it didn't want to work) then the 1.3 update. i think i'm going to do a fresh install of everything. >.<

I absolutely love this program! The night mode has been really helpful in relocating small remote bases lit by torches, and my pc using friends are actually jealous of this program.

I recently installed McRegion and though I knew your mapper wouldn't work with the region chunking format, I miss using it a lot. Do you think you could work with Scaevolus to figure out a way to map regions?

Also, something I thought would be helpful, a refresh button that would keep the current view but update for newly formed chunks. I have to switch to the nether and back to see new chunks on the map, but it resets the view when I do that.

Too bad shitty Macs can't even support antivirus.

Only had one virus on xp in years and it was a trojan hidden in a download of win95 game "Hover!" was quickly removed and all was good.

Not quite sure where to put this, seemed most appropriate here.

I've been really enjoying the terrains I've gotten lately, but I've been itching to build a really good atlantis. I have MCEdit, but I want the terrain to be natural that I start building in, and I didn't see any terrain generators for beta on the wiki. I know people have modded for some crazy worlds, but I don't really want to break my minecraft's mod virginity quite yet. So if someone could generate a world with a fairly large ocean and give me the code for MineSeeder, I'd greatly appreciate it. It would be nice to have an isometric or cartograph style map generated of the ocean and the seed code to set the spawn at the shore.

I'm hoping for an ocean at least 15 to 20 blocks beneath sea level at it's deepest (more is ok), and a quite sizable area around it to sprawl the city out. I'm going to be making hemisphere domes of glass under water, so the main dome will be 16 blocks high, 32 in diameter (adjustable), and I want to make more domes connected to it, so looking for at least probably a 10x10 chunk or 200x200 block area of deep water. If it ends up connecting to other deep water areas via canals, that's all the better to make the city sprawl out. If I ever complete this project it will definitely have pics.

Sorry if this is a bit of a tall order to fill, I've been searching around several new terrain generations for the past few days and have yet to find a body of water suitable for my needs. :SSSS:

I was, and always will be a mac fan boy hater. They can take their macbook air, starbucks mug, and Steve Jobs pin-up and shove them where the sun don't shine. That said, I am not anti mac as I was before I was forced to use one (and I like Starbucks but will drink pretty much anything). As a graphic design student, my dad bought me a macbook pro no matter how much I told him I didn't want one (I wanted a gaming laptop). After giving in to actually using it, I've found there are really only two advantages to having an intel (forget PPC) mac, and they are also the biggest downfalls.

1. The OS is fairly sleek. Meaning that it is highly restrictive, but there are ways around this.
2. The OS is extremely stable. Also meaning that it is highly restrictive, but there are ways around this.

Price? Whatever, get what you can afford. Ranting that they are overpriced just means you're either poor or a cheapskate (possibly jealous). Sure I'd like more for my money, but my money didn't get the thing in the first place.

Gaming and graphics? Sure they are a couple years behind, but they work fine for me. I dual boot windows xp on my macbook pro and can play L4D2, Fallout 3, Dirt 2, Far Cry 2, Bioshock, Borderlands, and most other recent games on low to medium graphics, which is good enough for me. Also, plenty of recent games (id's entire library, cod4, guitar hero 3, etc.) have come out for mac (and now joining them is valve's library), and there are ports for almost all the games that haven't. I played an unofficial port (read: fan made) of Portal two years before steam for mac came out, and it ran 60 fps on high graphics (no AA) with only an occasional (and minor) glitch with the bullet graphics.

Mice? Please, this has been old news for years. You can use any logitech or other mouse with a mac, and the mice they have had for years now have a solid single shell, but are 4 button mice (with a really cool scroll ball that allows 360º scrolling), the trackpads have a very natural feeling scroll, zoom, twist, and right click functionality, and they's made some other more interesting mice recently, but I haven't used them yet.

Neither mac nor pc is much more user friendly than the other. I'm a tutor and teacher's aid in a computer lab, and so many people are completely clueless. If you can learn one OS, the other is not that much different to learn. If you actually know what you are doing in one, you can figure it out in the other. Mac's are merely child proofed to make idiots less likely to hurt themselves and spend 10 hours talking to tech support (but even child proof bottles can be opened if you know what to do).

Most of the people who spew hate at macs are not the intended market of apple inc. I hate the misinformation and misrepresentation of windows in their commercials as much as every other pc user, but apple is trying to sell an aesthetic more than anything else. It's like running into Abercrombie and Fitch and shouting that Old Navy is better because it's less expensive and just as durable. Nobody in there cares, they want the A&F logo.

If you skip over all of this just to troll and call me a mac fanboy who doesn't understand the unix/linux roots of OSX, just know one thing: I dislike both Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX. Neither of them are good enough to be everything I want in an OS, and I don't feel like trying out Linux, so I use both of them. U MAD?

sudo "make me a sandwich"
//i know the OP's question was answered, but why is this so far off topic? especially as the OP said he's a windows guy, just happened to be on a mac//
