The I5 can pretty much handle any GPU on the Market.
Ok for some reason I've always just wanted to get an i7 because its performance out of the box. Now I've heard that overclocked the i5 can make as good or better than the i7 2600k
thing is i believe it can max BF3 across 3 1080 monitors and still only go to 40 FPS, and i have no idea how bad microstuttering would be
I like your idea but I've heard crossfire is unreliable, and I don't like AMD even though their products seem to be reliable. I prefer Nvidia for so reason more (Even though they cost double)
You really do not need an i7, as it performs the exact same as the i5 for gaming.
You also really don't need 16GB of RAM. 8GB is more than enough even for power users and you would be hard-pressed to use it all.
RAM speed does not matter for performance at all. The difference between 1600MHz RAM and 1333MHz RAM is measured in nanoseconds and fractions of 1 FPS. Nowhere near worth a price increase, get whichever is cheaper.
I would go with 2x4GB sticks, that way if you really do need 16GB you can expand it later.
You have a great point. I still have until May until the final decisions are in play. I'm afraid Ivy Bridge is going to be released and I'm going to miss it. My tedious research shall continue.
Basically everything Prophet said, but I would add in to find a cheaper motherboard as well. You could easily find a less expensive MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock board with the same features.
Tanks for reply and I was thinking of another motherboard but I like Asus. Unfortunately Asus and most other MB have bad ratings and I need a MB close to $200 or bellow.
The difference between 1600MHz and 1333MHz is hardly noticable. Also, I highly advise against 16GB of RAM. You will most likely never use it all. Hell, you'd probably even have trouble using all of the 8GB.
Don't get the bluray drive unless you need it, don't get the i7 2600k (get 2500k instead), you don't need 16 gb of ram, and don't get a separate cpu cooler unless you want to overclock.
Also, use pcpartpicker.com; It'll tell you where the parts are cheapest.
Thanks for advice but I want this to be a more permanent desktop. I will get rid of the Bluray drive but keep the i7 2600K and 16gb of Ram.
What's your budget?
What is the purpose of this computer?
My budget is currently below $2,000 unless a sudden occurrence. It will be used for gaming, homework, and etc. Mostly Skyrim, BF3, and of coarse minecraft. Also if you know should I go with 16 GB 1600mhz or 1333mhz OR 8 GB with 1600 i was planning 4x4 memory but my cpu cooler is to big.
Looking for a build between $2,050 or below $2000 Uses are for Gaming, Editing, and whatever else I want this to be future proof and so on. Post ideas and I'll modify as it goes.
