If it's some elaborate joke, EPIC FAIL - it's not obvious enough.

Go read some creationist teaching arguments and then reread this.

If I try to run the server on my desktop using the default minecraft server software from the website, I will never let me join my server because "Minecraft.net cannot verify my username," and No, verify_names = false is not an option here, do not suggest it. Although if I run the default software on my netbook, everything works as intended minus the perks of the custom commands of MCPP.

Second of all, running a server with MCPP works fine on the netbook, minus the fact that everyone is a guest all the time forever and cannot build anywhere. Because I cannot use the local link to minecraft on the netbook because it sucks and crashes the browser, I tried to do it on the desktop just because. the outcome: Illegal name error. I followed CriticSquid's fix for this, and I still came up as a Guest with no powers through the local link.

Verify-names is known to be broken, mCPP is no longer being developed. Find a fork of it. I think luacraft is based of mCPP

it's really great.. and you never have to worry about grievers, because they can't see your server unless you give them the URL =)

    Actually, there is a way.

posted a message on Custom Server Offerings for Linux?
Depends on what you want. There are two types of software for it:
    Server Scripts:
These can automate many op tasks(both name and nick banning, some flavor commands) and even give other admin interfaces(IRC, ect)
Probably easier to setup than server software(uses existing software), and retains comparability during updates(custom server writers are fast though, probably will take a few days if you give them incentive).
    Server Software:
These are outright replacements of the existing server. They may offer different performance, guest areas, build access limitations, some special blocks and other features. They can everything server scripts can do and more.
They probably won't be easier, and will break for a few days during updates.

Actually, you would have to ask WoM to have the client assume -hax.
Also Notch has some mediocre hack protection against stuff like name spoofing, remote block placement, fill, and things that are obviously bad.
He has yet to take an active stance against the current hacks, except acknowledging that he cannot stop them, and deciding them to make them official for more control.

I just started playing around with ServerOpConsole and I was wondering if there's a way to implement the mini-map with -both- cMss and SeverOpConsole.
ServerOpConsole is started from cMss by using this:
    COMMAND = ("ServerOpConsole","")

and ServerOpConsole launches the minecraft server.

While you can change what cmss runs, you can't change what ServerOpConsole runs. I had the idea of making a dummy jar that pretends to be the server, and runs both the map and real server, but that would be just utterly insane.

Maybe people like servers that are more secure

That's the only incorrect part of your post.
Custom servers tend to somehow be less secure from what I have noticed.

Also marenkon, the "minor changes" of which you speak are actually server scripts, and not custom server software. Secondly, I agree with not wanting to have to register.
However, control limiters are like spawn jails, and you can look around. That of course makes them better.
I agree though that guest areas are more or less token measures.
    EDIT:
    WHOO!
My title is no longer pathetic meme :biggrin.gif:
