Too be perfectly honest, I didn't know that the Technic pack wasn't linked to some sort of revenue making link, but that's because I don't mention things I don't know about. So I learnt something new.

I think the biggest issue is that the OP stated clearly that he didn't want to see the mod in any mod packs, and it made it into a Dev build, so who knows, maybe it'll get removed in a later build, but people will have doubts about that.

It seems to me to be a certain process, along the lines of 1) someone suggests a mod to be considered, 2) add it to a dev build to test it out, see how it interacts with the other mods and what needs to be adjusted to get things happy and 3) then decide if it is viable to push to release or not. Everything else would follow from there, but asking before you even know if it will work at all seems like putting the cart before the horse.

I know there are a few mods I wouldn't have heard of at all if not for finding them in a random dev build that didn't make it to release for whatever reason. Many more I would never have even tried without Technic itself.

I was going to use civil, but I couldn't make it feel right. the smoothness is a bi-product of sentence structure and experience. I used to be stupid and try and make an argument out of everything, heck, I made a new MCForum because I didn't like how unhelpful I was being. Heh.

Oh, we were all stupid on the internet once or twice.

Everyone's aware of this, but I think the problem is that the mod made it into a dev example without any post-notification towards MisterFiber regardless, and people feel angry/hurt about it 'cause the Yogscast a big thing and would expect to see a better example from something as big as them as a whole. (again, not Simon or Lewis directly).

Well, I can't speak to the reasonings or anything of the Yogbox at all, Technic is all I really pay attention to. I know Yogbox is included with the launcher but I have always assumed it was still available as a seperate download and added to make it less of a hassle to juggle multiple installs

Judging from PizzaSHARK's and Nodachi216's incorrect assertations, I think there are plenty enough people who don't understand that Technic isn't a profit making entity at all, and that they have always strongly ecouraged people to make donations to the mod makers. In the early days of Technic's rocky start, many of the bigger Forge modmakers saw an uptick in donations big enough to make mention of in their threads or blogs.

If this is an argument, it's the most civil and smooth one I've ever been in over the subject

    Size issue. Lul

Minecraft is a child's game paid for my mothers, smart people like you and I and mod makers everywhere are a minority, how would children get a hold of money and not spend it on stuff like Knex?

Hmm, ok. I will admit fair enough.

I will add, though, that it is currently only included in the Dev testing build, something that only the actual team working on it and people who want to test for problems are ever going to see. It is prone to serious crashes/save problems and nothing about the dev builds are set in stone. A link would appear for anything making it through to the release build, it is how the thing goes.

They don't use adfly or any other cash-generating links to the Technic launcher, and donations are not accepted by them. No technic paypal donation service exists, all queries about donating are met with the link to pick a mod maker to throw your bills at.

OH SNAP (didn't even attempt to look at the picture, huh?)

Taking money away from modders by telling people to donate directly to the modders. The Perfect Crime.

Plenty of people donate directly to the modders for their work, I've dropped a couple 10s on Azanor a few times now cause Thaumcraft 2 is HOT.

If the devbuild is available to the general public... it doesn't matter. They're still grabbing someone else's work without asking and using it - and getting paid for using it (via donations, adf.ly, etc.)

Hate to break it to you..

Hey DM, just wanted to pop in and say I use your pack and like the style a great deal. Looking forward to seeing more.

For my personal use, I created a CTM file. It needs a bit of work, but I like the extra touch it adds to things.

If you want to discuss "durrr, this game isn't realistic!", then talk to the rest of the thread. Not just me. I'm not the only one talking about the strangeness this is.

Considering everyone else can see my post already, I think it might be a little silly to address each and every person personally.

A certain level of unrealistic aspects is expected in any game, and there is only so far simulation can be taken. I would count it more a limitation of the chosen medium, it will never be right even if this one thing changes.

Oh, and the Gobi Desert totally gets frost and even a bit of light snow on occasion, though in limited areas. Considering that a giant frozen mountain range is right next to a desert in real life, it doesn't make any sense to say that it isn't realistic.

A little polish and shine wouln't hurt, though

Yes, but having snow, a form of precipitation, being seemingly prevented by a small creek makes no sense.

posted a message on We already have too many clean texture packs.
If more smooth pack Authors made even the smallest effort at being original, we'd have more Clean/Smooth packs of the quality of Soartex or Adriorn's Basico

Those are the only two I use with any regularity. There are a lot of nice texture packs, but I think the saturation of extra dark and moody textures is just as bothersome as the vast sea of crappy 'smooth and clean' stuff.

Damn, you guys are still at it? There are real problems in the world; roughly 80% of Haitians live in poverty and thousands are suffering and dying of cholera. There are men and women in the middle east getting shot at and blown up. Al Quaeda is likely coming up with a plan to blow you up. Oh, and you can't play the most up-to-date version of minecraft or you have to play it in a browser. Oh man. I'm sorry guys, you've got it bad.

The Sun is going to die out after burning our planet to a cinder, who cares about some poor Haitians

    :SSSS:

This might not be a cosmology thread, but your disturbing lack of intelligence upsets me. The sun is not going to just die out. I'm sure you've heard the "the sun is going to blow up and destroy earth in fifty million years!?" hype. It isn't going to blow up, when the hydrogen in it becomes heavier elements it'll just expand and destroy Earth. Hope this takes your mind off the launcher.

After which it will cast off gasses and condense, dying down to a dense, cooler(for a star) mass. No where did I say explode, and "die out" is a fairly accurate term for what amounts to death for a star. I'm sorry I didn't write up a full essay explaination for what, exactly, I meant in full detail with charts and graphs. I figured "die out" was a simple enough term for everyone to understand and to get my point across.

Maybe you can try not to insult someone after you incorrectly assume they meant something they didn't even say.

edit: Ninja'd by Eniliad, but it didn't hurt to repeat it.

Yeah, Notch is awake, big freaking deal. He has working hours and off hours. How would you like it if your boss called you in to work at all hours of the day and night to fix every issue that came up right on the spot? He has workers, a company, business hours. He has to pay overtime and have meetings and all that other fun stuff that comes with being a real company and not just one guy at an office desk. 24/7 support was not a package deal.

Okay Notch worshiper, the launcher is B R O K E N. Companies usually test their products before they release them, which is exactly why I support putting out patches early as a separate download on the site for a sort of "beta" testing for the patch. That way they can get the bugs in it worked out, such as half the Minecraft population not being able to play the damn game. Obviously during his "working hours" today the problem wasn't fixed and I haven't seen him acknowledge that there even is a problem. Seriously get your head out of the sand, Notch is not a god that does nothing wrong, this patch is just another failure along with the others, and once again, it's not the content but the technical problems.

As this is a Beta, the testing is being done right now. We are the testers. We are finding the bugs, and testing the limits. That is what we are doing. Now he will look at it, fix it, and in Full Release, it will be fixed. Acknowledging this fact does not make you a "Notch Worshipper", whatever the hell that even is.
