That's actually as idiotic as it sounds
I don't know much about this issue, even though I am experiencing it myself,
but I know that uninstalling your antivirus is a terrible idea o_o
Its actually not that bad if you know what your doing. For most people I wouldn't recommend it but I am a network security professional and I don't run any AV software. It has a dramatic performance impact against your box. I use safe browsing practices, an NIDS and run scans periodically.
That being said I am having the black screen problem as well in SMP so its not AV software causing the problem. The time from start to crash appears to vary. It can be anywhere from 2 hours to 5 minutes and there does not appear to be a pattern based on my game activities. There does appear to be a memory leak in MC though. I have watched the memory usage of javaw.exe as I play and it slowly climbs to about 1BG of usage before is crashes. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 with 1GB video RAM and a card like that should have no trouble running this game.
This happens to me as well in SMP. My client starts using around 300-400mb of ram. When I access the server it jumps to 600-700mb. It used to take a couple of hours before reaching 1gb ram usage before it would crash but now it only takes like 10 minutes. Its really freaking annoying.
Running into a problem. Everything is working great except for the "set spawn point" feature. I set it and everything looks good but then when i die and respawn its putting me somewhere completely different. I am attempting to set my spawn in an enclosed structure . . . . could that have anything to do with it?
I can't get this to run :sad.gif:
I have installed the .net framework. When I try to run it it just tells me that it encountered an error and had to close. I've seen this error mentioned a couple of times in this thread, but no solutions. Any idea how I can get it working?
Running on XP SP3
same here
and my log text doesn't have much in it:

Best thing I have found so far is to even out the walls and place steps. Its definitely more time consuming but if I finish out the walls to look more man made not only do I know where I have been but things start to look more familiar and I don't get lost or turned around as easily.
I have made something similar. Its a grid of platforms surrounded by water that the mobs fall into. Th water flow directs them to a central area where I have made a lava trap and a simple collection system. Works pretty well.
I am having the same problem. I have tried packs that I created myself as well as ones downloaded from the list. When I go into the texture section of the game the different texture packs show up but they are grayed out and I am not able to load them.
Has something changed in the game mechanics? I have attempted to build the 4 tick version a couple of times and it just doesn't work . . . am I just missing something? I am a little confused about the gray blocks. Are they supposed to go under the yellow . . . .
