I honestly don't see the point of yet another mod API. What is it that Forge is lacking? Make a PR? It's just sad to see that quite a few modders are seeing ASM as an easy way out compared to trying to put their hooks into forge. If you can make it generic enough that it's not just specific to your mod, PR would be welcome.

I tend to use ASM as a short to medium term solution. If it's possible for me to do so, I make a Forge PR, and remove my ASM hooks when my PR is accepted.

Grab his RP plugin, don't yell at the poor fella.

Let me raise a question here:
From what I can observe, you guys seem to be just ripping off the official Modding API (though, we all know that will never happen, that's another rant :P ). So how can your API differ from Mojang's, Bukkit or Forge?

AFAIK, the RP-IC converter was shot down because the guy reverse-engineered RP2 without Eloraam's consent. If he manages to do his mixed cable without looking into Eloraam's code, I think there's no issue (it would be better to ask her beforehand anyway - it's the sensible/polite thing to do).

The problem is, if you want to extend something, you need to reference the original code. Hence why IC2 has a published API. Elo would probably have done such a thing, however is is most likely fearful that somebody's addon may interfere with what she plans for the mod.

    Quote from SirSengir

Why should Eloraam statisfy "idiots" (as you quite correctly call them) by investing her time and essentially caving in to their demands. "Yes, your demands are idiotic, so I'll give you what you want to shut you up."

Also: What is she supposed to post?

"It's not done yet, sorry." => Cue idiotic questions and whines of "why?!?!?"
"Had a relaxed evening on the couch yesterday, not done yet." => Cue idiotic questions and whines of "why?!?!?", possibly with some implied "get to work!!!" posts mixed in.
"Might be done in a week. Not certain yet." => Cue idiotic "but you promised!!!!!" posts when it doesn't work out.

I am at a total loss why some people think that

    a) posting useless "status updates" would be in any way helpful to them or Eloraam. It's not as if RP2 will arrive any faster if Eloraam wastes time on pointless status updates. I also don't think it's Eloraam's responsibility to satiate impatient children who somehow think they are entitled to be catered to.

b ) posting useless "status updates" would somehow help shut up the impatient people on this thread clamouring for them. Instead of clamouring for status updates, they'd simply switch to demanding beta-releases or complain that the updates are not detailled enough.

    c) somehow they are entitled to status updates "because it wouldn't take a lot of time". I don't care how much or little time it takes to post a status update. No one has a right to other people's time, regardless of amount. No one has a right or is entitled to a mod developer being "in touch" with downloaders. (Though from the popularity of RP2 my guess is that Eloraam is quite in touch with what actually counts: people's wishes for good game mechanics.)

I am also not sure people understand that their whining and *ing - sorry, I really can't find any other words for it - is quite likely to be a reason for Eloraam to stay away from the MFC. In her place I'd not want to even touch this thread in the state it's in with a ten foot pole. The behaviour (Edit: some) people display here is a disgrace to the community.

    /rant

EDIT: And as mentioned directly above: She does post status updates on her Twitter. Which of course is "not enough" (see b ) above).

    Well said Sengir.

Note that from this point onwards, the views expressed are mine and solely MINE. I do not know the real reason of Forgecraft's existence, so don't ask me.

Such a shame though, that Forgecraft is being misused, for want of a better word.
What I see Forgecraft as, is as a test-bed for the newer mods (EE3, TC3, RP2) to iron out bugs and test out ideas. However, as I say, common sense can be said to be a superpower on the internet. Many people lack it.
Forgecraft was opened to streamers and youtubers (Direwolf/Slowpoke/Florastar/etc.) so that they could help to get the word out about the new features in the mods. However, I see this as being looked upon wrongly by the general Minecraft modding public. The public, being the 10 year old kids they are, whom are used to instant gratification, will go "W3 wan redPowa NAO!" (pun intended). They see the new features, and are jealous, so to speak, of the Forgecraft members. As Redpower has proven to be quite a major component of Minecraft modding, and some of us are not as gifted in vanilla redstone (props to Eloraam for that), sometimes we are often stuck knowing what to do in such a time that Redpower has not been released. So yeah, whiny babies being whiny babies, they often decide to be lazy and instead of looking for alternatives (BC/IC/UE), they decide to bash on Eloraam's door asking for updates. Sengir has, in his post quoted above, mentioned most of the points I would like to bring up, however, I find it necessary to elaborate.

"It's not done yet, sorry." => Cue idiotic questions and whines of "why?!?!?"

A general sense of entitlement amongst those whom use Minecraft mods is that "You, modder, since I, the mighty MinecraftNoob use your mod, hence you are my slave, and must deliver me updates of your mod to me in a timely fashion or face punishemnt by the Space Wizards Federation (ss13 joke, couldn't resist :P )". We ALL know Eloraam is not like that. She throws out teasers and simple "So this is gonna be added, but when and how, I won't tell you." That is the attiude I see her show on Forgecraft as well. However, the spoilt kids whom got Minecraft as a birthday present along with $40 worth of other steam games do not understand Elo's stance. Having received everything at their demand, they don't understand the fact that Elo would like to take her time to update, nor do they understand the fact that modding is not trivial. I've seen and written basic obsidian tool mods and I am currently helping to maintain a few mods for others as well. I have encountered countless issues with porting to later versions or Minecraft and Forge, especially 1.2.5 -> 1.3.2. As a developer, I can understand how Elo would have felt, especially with Mojang throwing us updates every week.

To me, no news is good news. It means Elo is too busy working on the mod (that's a good thing) to actually be able to make time to communicate with the users. So sometimes, if you don't hear anything, it can be good. Don't forget that Elo has another project (a voxel game recreation she calls Minia last I checked) and that she may not have time to fully work on Redpower.

b ) posting useless "status updates" would somehow help shut up the impatient people on this thread clamouring for them. Instead of clamouring for status updates, they'd simply switch to demanding beta-releases or complain that the updates are not detailled enough.

See my argument for a). Again, it is the same.

    c) somehow they are entitled to status updates "because it wouldn't take a lot of time". I don't care how much or little time it takes to post a status update. As again, I raise the argument of modding not being trivial and that the spoilt kids do not understand the work Elo has in front of her to port Redpower to other Minecraft versions. I've actually only seen one major mod developer that actively engages with the commmunity around his mod. His name is FlowerChild. Again, if you've actually taken a good look at BTW, FC only does small updates once in a while. Elo, on the other hand, likes to implement a lot of new features in her Minecraft version releases. Like in 1.2.5 we had Frames, which were quite a big component back in it's day. Everyone was playing with frames. This round we have the Sortron, the wind mills and all the other new features as seen in DW's Server Play. I leave you to dig out the videos yourself.

That is all. Bash me if you will, flame me if you will, tear this to pieces if you will, report if you will, because, honestly, this thread has turned into the worst sludge dump I've ever seen.
