thats major bs if they put permadeath in without a way to turn it off i might just quit minecraft altogether.
No no no. You're missing the point.
You start at level 1. i.e. Normal Minecraft
You can then quickly level (in Nethack you were level 5 within a few minutes, and that seems to be his inspiration). It does slow down over time, but nothing like WoW or EQ where you spend a month to gain a level.
And then... YOU DIE! OH NOES!
You're level 1 again. Normal Minecraft.
All you lose is your levels and, presumably, your gear if you died somewhere inconvenient.

Favorite thing to do in the game: Build towns
Other games you play: Streets of Rogue, Factory Town, Diablo 3. Standard issue stuff.
Hobbies you have: Craft cocktails, boating, picking up esoteric skills
Any other random stuff about yourself: I live on a boat

Hi.
I'm attempting to help my friend play on my realm. Forgive me, please, for trying to do a 3rd person techsupport request, but she's too frustrated to continue at this point.
She was playing on an ancient laptop, but just got a brand-spanking new one with Windows 10 a couple days ago. She installed Minecraft Java, and logged in and played. no prob.
Next day she tried and for some reason Java was no longer on her computer. We installed it again, and it worked fine.
Next day she tried and it crashed (froze) after she hit play on the start screen. Reinstalling both Java and Minecraft did not help. She then tried installing minecraft on her D drive instead of C, and that seemed to work. She made the mistake of logging out back to the start screen, and when she hit the Play button it froze again.
(this is unrelated to the problem, but before anyone says to just use the Windows10 version, she tried, and that went horribly wrong. It required her to use her Xbox login, she doesn't have Xbox live, so it wouldn't let her play online or see my realm etc. She just wants to play on her 5 year old Java account.)
If there's some particular troubleshooting I can do to get more info, please let me know.

I'm new to this. Been playing Minecraft for years, but never run one. I'm looking for a server located in the Northeast (my group is based in Boston). VPS seems like the right choice for me right now, and I'd like some sort of admin toolkit as I'm not a Linux guy (yet). Tho I could learn basic commands for fetching etc.
I think 1-2gb RAM seems about right for me at this time.
Thanks for reading!

1. I upgraded to the new version 8 Java.
2. I disabled Vsync
(disabling Vsync did not work prior to upgrading Java)

I installed java 8. That didn't do it, but then I ran through all the video settings (again) and it was resolved when I disabled Vsync.

I'm bummed out, my friends are starting a server and I want to join them, but 1.8 is still broken and there's no way to get support. Very disappoint.

I then allocated 2048 for the RAM. That did not resolve either.
Version 1.7.5 still works like a champ tho'.

Today I tried starting up a 1.8 single player game, and the same thing happened. there's a 1 second skip that acts like lag about every 3 seconds.
Help?
