posted a message on Looking for a Vanilla survival server
Hi, I have been playing Minecraft since 1.4 alpha. I am looking for a vanilla server. Here are the requirements.

No mods, as in code. The living kind is all good.
    24/7 up time
    free

    Those are absolute.

Now if someone knows of a server that is doing a stronghold restoration project I would like to join. The above requirements still apply. Even a server with a 1.0 map would be good. Since it is easier to find a stronghold on a fresh map.

Alright I had this idea for a while, and I just discovered that a sub forum for mod ideas exists.

Is it possible to make Minecraft blocks engravable? Say there was a tool, such as a chisel. If the chisel is used on a block the block is split up into 27 smaller cubes. Like a Rubix cube. Now you would be able to remove the cubes one at a time by using the chisel to create a more detailed design on any of your creations. The one in the exact center would not be removable. All 27 smaller blocks are still treated as one Minecraft block. So if you destroy it it will just drop a block of the type that it was. The change would be purely cosmetic.

If that would take to much memory, we could split it up into 8 cubes. This would not be as customizable, but you would be able to create upside down stairs for instance. Or a half-block like block with one corner up. So it is able to connect stairs at corners for roofs/etc.

However I am not a programmer, and I do not know how Minecraft handles each block.

Another idea related to this is compact redstone circuitry. You would be able to replace each of the 27 small cubes with a redstone dust. This would make it possible to have two corner's in the same space without them touching each other. Or say hidden redstone inside a line of cobble.

Edit: Can a mod correct the spelling in the title? I am tired and not thinking straight. It should say "Carving/Engraving Blocks, is it feasible?"

How about we start off slow and simulate Dwarf Fortress inside Minecraft?

Now excuse me, I need to drown some goblins.

Strip mining on layer 4, walking and mining at the same time. I fell in lava, lost diamond pick and 6 diamonds. No big deal. I just got another diamond pick and went mining in another direction. Exact same thing happened. Rage quit. End.

There's only really two files to install, which took me seconds to do. I'm using Autocart, Brown and Bloom Textures with the HD fix for brick/flames/water, as well as BetterGrass and my game runs smooth as silk.

Well I'm running Minecraft on a Macbook pro, from a .jar file. I tried running it on windows though bootcamp but the right mouse button does not work, Minecraft does not recognize the 2 finger press on the touchpad. The 2 finger press works on everything but Minecraft. I also don't want to carry a mouse around with me, since the one I have is bulky, and most of the time my laptop is on my lap with no place to use a mouse.

WOOT! A newb that started just like me! Who accually uses the search function and wiki and skips straight to the unspecified stuff :iapprove:
Anyway, you should try minecart boosters, much better than powered minecarts. Search it up on youtube or google.

Lol, actually this is the first time I had to ever post anything about something I don't understand. Every other game I used wiki/forum searching to find what I need. The only reason I am posting now is because Minecraft is still in Alpha and comprehensive guides cannot be made, on account of constant updates.

Autocart http://minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=45168 blows cart boosters out of the water. I used to use boosters, but never again, heh.

I don't really want to mess with mods/textures atm. My game likes to crash a lot, its not unmanageble though. Ill start modding once its more stable, like beta or the the final release.

The corkscrew design would be possible, youd just have a hard time making it imo. And it cant be 1 block lower each time, it would have to be a 2x2 pillar and the track could only descend at a 1 block rate.

So the cart tracks can turn while angled? Because I was not sure about it.

Make a boat elevator, basically a long waterfall so if the boat touches it, it goes to the top very fast, and then make some fancy thing so it falls back down and so on.

Minecarts would be too hard as powered MC's require refualing and youd propably need way too many boosters otherwise.

    Mind explaining the "fancy thing"?

Alright my first post, yay. I just got minecraft yesterday and built myself a tower, It goes past the clouds. I also made a shaft, with ladders, to the adamantium layer. Now my question is this, is it possible to make a corkscrew minecart rail?

Also a couple of extra questions:
What is the steepest slope you can make a minecart go?
At what slope will the minecart be able to go back up? Would it require a powered minecart?
Is climbing up and down a shaft of ladders faster then using a corkscrew setup of a minecart? (if the corkscrew is possile)
If the corkscrew is not possible, should I just use the ladder shaft to get down to the bottom? (the shaft is straight down)

Ill add more questions here, basically I'm looking for the most time efficeint method of getting from cloud level to the adamantium level.
