Hello, I've made a number of modpacks in the past but this time I'd like to focus the pack around a pure skyland-ish over world. I would like to include a world with the pack that generates nothing but floating skyislands using overworld biomes.

I understand I can achieve this using custom world generation options via single player. However I'm worried that this might jank up the orespawn. I was hoping there would be a mod or utility that could assist me with this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You may be thinking of MCA, Minecraft Comes Alive. It has a function kind of like you described.

posted a message on Updates RUIN minecraft!

Can you say NECRO? I just wanted to say, I was wrong. The game is different now, or maybe I am.

I mean, I hope so I was 15 at the time.

I do think some of the Updates took the magic out of the game. Going back, I'm not so sure if every change was a good one, and the option to not update is not a solution to the community disliking the direction the game is heading. It's been a crazy 5 years but well enough, this topic is still relevant. Sorry for the necro, I just wanted to come back to this and admit that I was wrong.

You want to know the real reason I'm inclined to want Minecraft to stop updating and hand it over to the modders?

Because I was 14 when I started playing Minecraft, that was more than 6 years ago. Nearly half my life I've been in love with this game and what it stands for, but so long as it isn't "complete" I'll always feel like a part of me can't move on.

I know it's stupid and petty, but its the truth, and I think more people need to admit it. I don't think any of my other points are less true, but that is my bias. The game has just drifted around in this state of forever-change for as long as its excised, and I honestly think It's lost some of its magic along the way because of it. And this is coming from someone who viciously defended every update and every feature that's been added. I want to move on, and I know that's my problem.

Mods being higher quality doesn't neccessarly mean they have to be more complex. They can have better refined mechanics, more appealing visual effects, and higher compatibility with other mods. simply by virtue that mod makers would had more time to work on the small things. My big example is Thaumcraft, a few versions back Azanor spent a butt load of time just making Thaumcraft beautiful and it really paid off. However he quickly became a few versions behind and it took a long time to update.

This has generated a lot of negative feedback but I can honestly say that I and many older players agree that it's time for the game to stop updating. I've been with minecraft since the near beginning and I've seen how the modding community evolves with the constant updates. Many of you say that the ability to play on older versions alleviates concerns about modding. However, it only exaggerates the issue further.

Newer mods will always be developed for newer versions of the game, and modders want their mod to be comparable with newer versions because more people will play them. Sure you can opt to stay in an older version, and this allows you to create higher quality mods. But what happens in a few months?

New updates come out, new mod developers start making new mods, and many people start to update. And now your high-quality mod you've spent nearly a year creating starts to collect dust on the shelf because its for a version that the community has moved past. You have three options: 1: Start the long and horrible process of updating your mod to a newer version 2: Scrap your mod and make a different one from scratch 3: Quit making mods because the cycle is too frustrating.

And sadly, many great mod makers have chosen 3 over the years.

Here is the deal: So long as official updates for minecraft keep coming out, there will always be pressure for mod creators to update. This means lower quality mods and far less compatibility. We're already seeing it today. So many high quality mods, all hopelessly scattered across multiple versions. and very few mods are fun enough to be played on their own.

You might argue that the minecraft community isnt all about mods, and to that I'd have to say: Are you sure about that?

Pretty much any server worth a crap now days is running a dozen or more plugins, effectively mods the server. and plugins are subject to everything I've listed. Version spreading, quality problems ect. Minecraft doesn't need to constantly update to stay popular or interesting anymore. If anything we're approaching a point where new features are basically novelties that wear off in a matter of days. Some may even say we passed that point a long time ago.

Imagine a Minecraft where mods could be two to three times the quality that they are today, where compatibility would almost never be an issue, and where all players had to do to play a modded server was connect. This is the power of a well crafted API and a single, final, version. All you would have too do to play a modded server is click connect and agree to download the modfiles. It could be seamless! a workshop for mods inside your very client. But instead of all that, we get semi-regular updates that add (lets face it) things that mods where already doing better.

Existentialism. Simply being a conscious being is a paradox. Logically we know that one day must cease to be conscious, but lack of consciousness is incomprehensible. Don't think about it too hard or you'll start to have anxiety.

Holy crap I've played this server a couple years ago. I had to go out nearly 20k blocks just to find trees and food. There was a massive wall covered in lava all the way around spawn to the world height.
