I think Etho used a natural cave for his base, so he didn't have to use his pickaxe to dig it all out by hand. That might be easier, but you'd have to light the whole thing up to be safe.

If you have a compass in your house and you know where your house is when holding the compass make a compass to find your way back to your house.

Anyway if you didn't understand that (it's ok I didn't either) JUST USE COMPASSES. Or you could kill yourself... its just iron. Iron is the second easiest ore to find. Just saying.

Compasses only point back to your original spawn point in the world. If you have a map in an item frame in your house, you can carry a copy of the map and it will show where the item frame is. Is that what you meant?

When you say the map didn't update, do you mean the blank parts don't fill in? Maybe giving a screenshot of the map would help. Checking the wiki could also solve your problem: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Map

Enderman can get inside something unless it is surrounded by water, or if the area has 3-block high ceilings.

I think you mean less than 3-block high ceilings.

posted a message on The Oceanic Wonderer!
Well I'm trying an underwater survival challenge, and I wanted to start my base in an ocean where I couldn't see the shore even on far render distance. I challenged myself to spend only one day collecting materials before going underwater, but it took me three minecraft days to find an ocean that met my requirements. This was actually before 1.7, so I probably just got unlucky with the seed. I'm now debating trying to find a deep ocean biome to move to, since I haven't gotten that much done on my current base, but I'm worried that if I move into 1.7 chunks the oceans will be too small.

posted a message on Village config
As far as I know, this can only be done on superflat worlds, unless you use mods. Take a look at this:
Consider the preset code 2;48,250x0,49,78:2;3;stronghold(count=7),village(size=0 distance=9),decoration,dungeon,mineshaft

The village and the parenthesis after it are what you need to worry about. The size value is, of course, the size of the village. The distance value is the maximum distance between villages-if you set this to the minimum, which is nine, you should see villages spawning a lot more often. That three just before the ";stronghold" is the biome id. You'll need to change that to 1 or 2, for plains or desert, respectively, otherwise villages won't spawn. For more info on preset codes check out the wiki page (http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Superflat). A good program to help you generate a preset code without having to memorize all those block IDs can be found here: http://chunkbase.com/apps/superflat-generator#2;7,2x3,2;1;village. I hope this was helpful.

posted a message on Zombie Sieges are back....
    Quote from oCrapaCreeper

I'm pretty sure they are still not fixed. Most likely the Zombies are tracking the villagers from underground and causing more to spawn above ground.

I'm pretty sure that zombies won't cause other zombies to spawn simply by tracking villagers. Besides, no hostile mobs can spawn anywhere in mushroom biomes under normal circumstances. The only thing I can think of is that there was a zombie dungeon in a cave very close to the surface, because dungeon spawners still work in mushroom biomes. It's possible you're right, and this was a zombie siege, but I thought that the mushroom biome would block it. How close is your mushroom biome to any other biomes? The zombies might have been able to swim across. Also, how many villagers and doors did you have beforehand? the wiki says A zombie siege requires a village of at least 10 houses and at least 20 villagers

I was really disappointing to see that the time-lapse feature was taken out from 1.7 :(

Wouldn't that make it so if you paused while being chased by zombies you'd see a time-lapse of your death when you un-paused? Not my idea of a good time.

Reminds of one of my world where I put the presets to only ocean. I found a village at the bottom of the water! Villagers and all! Still have pictures if you want :P

I once tried to survive on that preset. It's actually possible to establish a sustainable base if you find a blacksmith's chest with saplings in it. Unfortunately I was unable to do this because I died while moving between villages, and I had broken my bed to take it with me. I fell to my death in one of the pits leading down to the village :P

What's fun is to knock out the blue wool and ride it down until you're just over the pressure plate, then mine out the pressure plate while you're still in the water stream. If you do it right, it feels like you're in Mission Impossible.

The hallways in Nereus were wide enough to use horses. But it never grew so large that we needed to. The whole structure was comfortably walkable.

How would you have gotten the horses down there?

That was not my intended meaning although I can see how you got that from it. "Travel between them will be achieved by boat until subs are added, if they are added" is kind of an ungainly sentence.

Oh, gotcha. I noticed that in your New Pacifica City post you mentioned travel via minecart. Did you give up on that idea in general, or just for the sand mining stations because they're meant to be temporary? Or is there a different reason why you'll be using boats rather than minecarts here?

You seem very sure that subs will be added. Is there any evidence for this, or is it just wishful thinking?

This is amazing. I love the tone of your video-it's very awe-inspiring. One thing though-you mention starting a new colony in a deep ocean biome once 1.7 comes out. It seems like the deep oceans will have gravel instead of sand, however. Won't that make it hard to make the glass for the domes?

posted a message on Day counter [As Requested]
That's really cool. The second command block seems extraneous, though. If you use a command to display the objective on the sidebar in the beginning, would you still need to activate the command block every day to put it on the sidebar again? Also, would it be possible to set up a command block with /tell to say what day it is at the start of each new day?
