posted a message on Guinea pig

I really just want the guinea pig. I love guinea pigs (as you can probably tell from my profile picture). I've been thinking about making a new piggy mod because it would be really good for me career-wise to get some Java skills. I just haven't really had the time to focus on it with maintaining my modpack and cultivating my YouTube channel. I was thinking of something along the lines of the Chickens mod for 1.10.2. You breed different piggies and the give you nuggets of different resources (like bees but much cuter). Piggies do tend to leave lots of little nuggets behind, but they are not particularly useful for anything ;-)

posted a message on The Right Modpack For Me?

Are you up for a challenge? Although my pack doesn't have quests, it's got a ton of highly integrated content for you to explore. I'll include the pack description here

Hello there friend. It seems as though you've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

Welcome to the world of Ascension of the Technomancer, a high difficulty alternative to typical "kitchen sink" type packs. This pack features a high degree of cross mod integration, with a special focus on exploration. Advent of Ascension, Hardcore Ender Expansion, and Twilight Forest, GalacticCraft, and The Aether II provide the player with more than 30 new dimensions to explore. The tech side of the pack centers around GregTech 5 experimental, but includes all of the major tech mods (Thermal Expansion, EnderIO, MFR...) you’ve come to know and love. This pack uses a mix of GregTech style and traditional oregen, to further encourage exploration while not leaving you stuck if you can’t find the ore vein you need. Rotary and ReactorCraft are now a part of the tech mod suite, giving you a rare opportunity to play around with these challenging and engaging pieces of content. The magic side of the house features all of the major 1.7.10 magic mods, along with some less common fare like Ars Magica, Aura Cascade, and ChromaticCraft to spice things up. Survival challenges have been enhanced with Hunger Overhaul, Spice of Life, Harvestcraft, and Agricraft. The 100s of mobs in the pack have been organized into custom spawn tables, written from the ground up with Just Another Spawner. The recipes used in this pack were initially derived from Infinity Expert mode with a dash of InfiTech 2, but were heavily customized from there to ensure a unique modded Minecraft experience like no other.

Do you consider yourself a Minecraft expert? Then welcome to your greatest challenge... or your undoing.

Good luck friend, You're going to need it.

posted a message on Optifine conlicting

Could you please define conflicting? Is this a graphical anomaly? If the answer is yes, my recommendation is to turn off fast renderer (or is it fast math, check them both). Also, threaded chunk loading just seems to cause all sorts of problems, just go with the normal chunk loading until you get everything playing nice. Also, that sounds like a pretty old version, I'm using OptiFine_1.7.10_HD_U_D6 in mypack Ascension of the Technomancer. It contains over 300 mods and I'm having no compatibility problems with Optifine, although I think if I take a newer version than that, it will start fighting with Fastcraft and NotEnoughIDs (literally so many mods I blew out the block ID limit and needed a fix). So it's probably a settings issue, if you have changed anything off the default, you can start clean by deleting minecraft/optionsof.txt (file, not folder obviously). Beyond this, it's pretty hard to give more specific advice without knowing the kind of compatibility issue your having. Hopefully, these pointers will guide you a bit.

    posted a message on AoA--25 New Dimensions• 330 Mobs• 27 Bosses• Skills• Quests• 600+Items [LARGE Bugfix Update, May 2018]

Even if it never reached the truly massive content goals, there is still just so much interesting stuff in AoA. There are too few major modpacks that include it, so I decided to address that to let people play around with this mod while still having the full suite of FTB craziness everyone knows and loves. I was aiming for capturing the combat challenge of Mad Pack/Blood n Bones with the difficult, integrated recipes of Infinity Evolved/InfiTech 2. This is what I came up with, over 300 mods worth of hardcore modded Minecraft goodness (Warning: do not attempt a hardcore world, will not last long)\

posted a message on Mods for my modpack?

Going with AoA Huh? Why not throw Lycanites on that to get some extra deadliness in there. That's what I did with my hard mode only pack

    FTB Pack Code: AotT
    Curse: https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/ascension-of-the-technomancer

I would recommend some heavy magic to combat all these threats? Ars Magica 2 is my recommendation for that. Beyond that it really depends what you want. Looking for a "hard mode" pack type challenge? I'm a fan of GregTech, but I know it's not for everyone

If your going 1.7.10, why not give Reika's mods a try? They are really challenging and engaging. Nead a bit more exotic of a tech mod? Try Magneticraft. Oh, don't forget Railcraft, (mostly) Everyone likes Railcraft. Do you like Bees, but want them to be less of a grindfest? Forestry, Extra Bees, Gendustry

There's just so many good choices, this is how I ended up with over 300 mods in my pack. If you want to see what a recipe integrated mega pack looks like to get some more ideas, I have a let's play if anyone is interested

posted a message on how to make a modpack

Ok, a few points of note. Curse/Twitch is an extremely useful tool, it's just super easy to download most things. My biggest recommendation for pack development is to use a version control system from the beginning. This way you can track every change you make and undo them easily if there are problems. You will also have an easy way to see diffs (file changes) if you take an update to a mod and it alters the configs. I have a local svn server setup on a secondary raid array of drives, then I post all configs and scripts (NO CODE, very important, this would violate the modders TOS) in GitHub. Next, if you want to do anything of interest at all, you will want to customize recipes using CraftTweaker. This is a mod that let's you change recipes with a simple script instead of a full java class extension. Here is the wiki

    http://minetweaker3.powerofbytes.com/wiki/Main_Page

There are tons of other mods that exist solely for pack makers to change the standard mechanics of the game, the best way to learn about these is to search Curse and look at the special things other packs do and research how the authors did that. Oh, also, watch out for biome/dimension/potion/enchantment id conflicts. These are unique numbers assigned to each of these things registered in Forge. If to mods are assigning a biome or enchantment or whatever to the same ID, bad stuff will happen in game and could damage players worlds. Don't let this happen, use AntiIdConflict to force a crash on load if there is an ID conflict. The when you see the crash, you can look at the files AntiIdConflict created to figure out which two mods are requesting the same ID and go into the configs and change on of them.

    https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/anti-id-conflict

There's quite a bit more to it than that, but I tried to give you some really key points in a succinct a way as possible. I hope this helps. Feel free to look over my pack as a reference for how to get a large number of mods playing nice together. I believe there are 304 mods in my pack.

posted a message on (Let's Play) Ascension of the Technomancer

If you consider yourself to be an experienced modded Minecraft player, then I cordially invite you to try your hand at Ascension of the Technomancer. This is a "hard mode" type pack inspired by IE:E but with a much bigger focus on combat and exploration. The centerpiece of the pack is Advent of Ascension giving you tons of new and exciting dimensions to explore things to kill (or be killed by). Many of the recipes from IE:E are in use in this pack, but there are some major deviations as well to keep the experience fresh. No Tinkers, no Draconic Evo, and IC2 takes a sidelined role in favor of GregTech. All of the major 1.7.10 mods you typically find in an FTB pack are here, along with some less common fare to spice things up; Ars Magica 2, Open Computers, Galacticraft, Lycanites' Mobs, and Chromaticraft.

If your curious about a modpack that contains AoA, it just so happens I have made one.

    https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/ascension-of-the-technomancer

AoA is certainly a focal point of this pack, but it's not the only one. This is a pack with the hardcore Minecraft player in mind. To summarize it in terms of other packs

    FTB Departed + FTB IE:E + InfiTech2 with a splash of Chromaticraft.

There is heavy cross mod integration derived from IE:E recipes, but with GregTech. A big focus on exploration and combat. Lot's of custom structures and dungeons with custom loot. Fully customized mob spawning tables for the 100s of mobs to create a fare but challenging experience. Hunger Overhaul, Spice of Life, Harvestcraft, and Cooking for Blockheads. Pretty much all of the major magic and tech mods from 1.7.10.

Not for the feint if heart and AoA does share the stage with several other large mods, but if your up for a challenge then this pack was made for you*.

    * Ok actually it was made for me, but with the intent of sharing my love of this game (and the desire to have it be more challenging) with the community.

Note: A solid gaming PC is recommended for a proper experience, simply due to the scope of the content included.

Jut on quick technical note about the pack. The current version of the pack (2.3.1) contains a script bug that will cause worlds to fail to load up twice without restarting the client. Th world always loads up the first time when you sign in, but if you log out and then attempt to log back in there is a chance you won't be able to. This has been fixed in the next version (2.4.0), and if you would like you can download and apply the latest configs and scripts from the pack GitHub and apply them over the 2.3.1 versions.

Advent of Ascension, Hardcore Ender Expansion, and Twilight Forest provide the player with more than 20 new dimensions to explore. The tech side of the pack centers around GregTech 5 experimental with a mix of GregTech style and traditional oregen. The magic side of the house features all of the major 1.7.10 magic mods. Survival challenges have been enhanced with Hunger Overhaul, Spice of Life, Harvestcraft, and Agricraft. All mob spawning has been customized through the use of Just Another Spawner, with Lycanites mobs thrown in for good measure (in case you weren't feeling threatened enough yet). The recipes used in this pack were initially derived from Infinity Expert mode with a dash of InfiTech 2*, but heavily customized to ensure a unique experience. Do you consider yourself a Minecraft expert? Then welcome to your greatest challenge... and your undoing. Good luck friend.

This pack contains Fastcraft, by Player, enabled by default to provided increased performance. Bug reports being made directly to mod authors should state Fastcraft is enabled. More information and original download can be found here: http://forum.industrial-craft.net/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=10820. Seriously man, it's key info for debugging issues.

This pack is intended to use Mo' Creatures, but cannot redistribute it. It is highly recommended that you download and install it before launching the pack (config, spawn table, and scripts have been included). Once installed, navigate to "../minecraft/scripts/Mo' Creatures.save" and rename it "../minecraft/scripts/Mo' Creatures.zs". Official 1.7.10 download link: http://www.mineloads.com/rC

This pack is intended to work with Chococraft, but I have been unable to get in touch with the author to get permission to include it. This may change in the future, but for the time being you can download it here (no script activation required): http://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/chococraft/files/2224416/download

Please note that after taking a pack update, you will need to re-add the recommended addons to the mods directory, and re-enable the Mo’ Creatures MineTwaker script as described above.

    * Special thanks to the authors of Infinity Evolved and InfiTech 2 for providing some of the initial script base for this pack. Although the scripts have been heavily changed from that initial point, this pack wouldn't be what it is today without that jumping off point.
