Playing off and on since notch added pigs. I haven't played since last winter, so I can't wait to try all the new stuff, enchanting tables, and potions..

He said there'd be an Adventure update, and that'd it's be broken into parts.
I don't think he lied at all. As it stands, it is WIP. And, honestly, would you rather him give us an official, buggy, halfassed version of it?
It's better to take your time and get it right; after all, he has to please millions of people. If a modder messes up, nobody give 2 craps. If Mojang messes up, the whole gaming world falls apart.
That is another thing that bugs me. Every server I have been on has had to erase the entire maps to get the new biome code. So everytime a new patch is made the worlds get destroyed. Not only that but as servers update the mods for the server don't get updated as fast so it lets griefers get in and trash things up until the server can get new mods installed to handle them.
It is just a mess. Like you say he should test things but then release it as a finished product. So far Mojang has never added testing and quality control to their deadlines on releasing a product. Would be nice, but not gonna happen I guess.

You do know that Ntch has repeatedly stated again and again that 1.8 "adventure update" was too large for a single patch right? That adding so many features at once would have resulted in 1) almost no time for players to test the new features so that he and Jeb could get community feedback on functionality to tweak various bits for balancing and 2) there would be no time to do bug testing with the release of Minecraft just around the corner and shoving every single change to the game from the 1.8 pre-release to the current 1.9 pre-release would be be a nightmare to try and figure out what exactly was cussing a bug. By a game development point of view, breaking this update into parts was the only sane thing to do.
I don't understand what your complaint is. It is not like Notch went "1.8 is the Adventure Update, and ONLY 1.8" Hes stated that 1.8, 1.9 and if need be, 1.10 (though with just releasing revisions of that is making no need for 1.10) are ALL the adventure update. Your complaint doesn't exist the adventure update hasn't been abandoned and Notch talks very little about his personal life on his twitter besides stating that he he is going home or just woke up or re tweeting something game related to his interest.
I seriously do not understand what you are crying about.
"I don't have facts to back this up", but why does Notch promise an adventure update and then later break it up into multiple parts? I mean that is how I saw it, I could be wrong. The only place I can go to find this information was on this forum, where one of the forum members donated his/her time to fill us all in with great technical detail I might add, about what was to be in 1.8 and what wasn't to be.
I just wish there was a little more concern for the fans of minecraft coming from mojang. They wouldn't be anything without mods and community backing them up. Notch never once posted any kind of information himself about what was going to be in 1.8 - 1.9 because he constantly changes it.
Oct 14, 2011It's ok, I am use to it. I have been around minecraft for 2 years now. I got really excited about the Halloween update last year in Oct. and was greatly disappointed that it was never quite finished even a month after Oct. 31, the actual release date. Notch promises one thing and delivers something completely different.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
The same thing is going on now with 1.8 update. There was a ton of features promised that never made it. Now a couple of months later he moved a ton of those features to 1.9 such as NPC and animal breading.
I would probably feel better about the way Notch does things if he would have an official news post on the website, but all we get is twitter, or is personal blog. Frankly I don't care about his personal life as much as I care about playing minecraft. Is anyone really going to pay money to go to minecon? Who cares really?
So yeah when all these "new features" are coming to 1.9, I am not excited at all. Some of these things were suppose to already be added.
That is how I feel guys/gals sorry for the rant.

to everyone complaining about 'how hard coding is' mojang could easilly get corporate funding from other game studios who im sure would let him lead development and they handle coding and advertising.. idk what cobalt is but isn't scrolls a card game? who the hell plays card games in 2011?
I know friggin card game... really? Only people gonna buy that is little kids who thought it would be good because minecraft was good.

They still say November 2011 the full game will be released, and they also say the game is still on schedule. So lets just smile and see what happens :biggrin.gif:
Does Notch say that he will keep working on minecraft after this? There is so much more he can be adding to the game :smile.gif:

This a million times.
Millionaire is a NPC village mod, and it's been in development for months. Getting better as time goes.
A few other mods change how generation was handled, and that works well.
Remember hand held torches are "Hard to code"? Yeah, theres a mod for that.
If these mod makers have lives, why does it take them half the time to do something that isnt even their jobs?
There really is NO excuse to why the development is a snails pace, other than to not working on it long enough.
I think "the problem" is that Notch is one man who had a good idea and made it happen. People bought into expecting so much more. Mojang has only recently been created and is adding new employees and going through many changes. We expect so much from minecraft but the reality is that Minecraft was just an experiment. Kind of an accident if you will.
So "the problem" is not really Notch's problem. It is just ours and created by our own expectations of the game. I always tell people if they don't like the game don't play it or go make your own game the way you want it. Or at least provide some constructive criticism based on intelligent research about the game and its developers. Or you can always make mods. Attacking the game developers for being lazy or slow only makes things worse. Haste makes waste?

The lighting has a bit of a problem with white wools and such, creating a very disappointing look.
Yes I just saw the thread about the wool house. Funny trolls saying why build a house in wool anyway lol.

where is the texture that affects the lighting? I've messed with the light_normal.png but it doesn't change anything for me.
Not sure, I am waiting until actual release to mess with anything.

Yes, there was another thread. I agree the transition is a bit broken.
Problem seems to be it uses only one texture to do this, and there's overlap between the yellow torch side and the blue sky side, so you get a light color that uses both with torches. I think the devs will fix this on their own? They should just to get it looking just right.
Hopefully it will use seperate textures for different light. I also want to see some nice blue/green/red lights. Maybe for christmas :smile.gif:
Sep 10, 2011The new lighting system looks really bad despite the benefits it gives us for night time.Posted in: 1.8 Update Discussion
The main problem I am seeing is that the center of light sources are perfect white light, yet as the light diminishes it seems to color objects that the light touches. This makes no logical sense in nature or art.
If you look at this picture here you can tell what I am talking about, the stone next to lava is grey and illuminated without any color. The stone farther away from the lava is turning yellow/brown.
So what do you all think about this change? Do you like or not like it?
