Plus, sometimes it's better to leave character connections more shrouded in mystery. It's cool to find out later on that the person your fighting with has some sort of connection to you, in a meta sense. I feel like mandatory character connections could make that little pleasant surprise in the meta just seem like something that has to happen, as opposed to something that happened out of coincidence. As my friends used to say, "think of the meta, man!" whenever I brought forth some new rule that could potentially break the meta in some way. I'd attribute it to giving my D&D buddies a list of all of the NPCs they're going to meet before they even know who those NPCs are. Sometimes a surprise in the meta is worth much more than clearly setting something up beforehand.))

((Also, according to my friends and girlfriend I have "abnormally long eyelashes," and "would probably look good in mascara." All of them would say this btw, and I have noticed my eyelashes are stupidly long. Due to the fact that I'm incredibly conscious about keeping my square jaw and rough look, I think that was mostly just teasing. However, if I show up to another boxing match and I hear the announcers say "and here comes the 180 pound man with long eyelashes," I'd likely flip.))

((Yeah. It can be really fun to plan characters out with each other as partners or something beforehand, or reveal that they share some sort of family link, or their backstory tied into another's in a way that isn't immediately apparent, but it kind of ruins the magic to force it on people.))

((Putting on mascara won't ruin your jaw, Kohai, and probably won't ruin your "rough" look if you pull it off right. But I think that's kind of dishonest to put on a front like that. I mean, I think it's pretty obvious that you're really just my little Sweetie Pie Kohai on the inside.))

((I feel like if we ever meet up, we should just show up in drag so we instantly know who to look out for.

Ok, maybe just post pictures beforehand or hold up signboards or something. I'd probably be wearing eyeliner one way or the other, though.))

But anyways, yes, I plan to do some writing soon and that includes replying to your PM))

((Yup, gotta write stuff. Gonna get on that maybe tomorrow, tomorrow night, or the night after that for sure otherwise.

As for criticism It's kinda difficult for me to give it so long as something doesn't rub me the wrong way. If I dislike something I express it, sometimes a bit too spitefully, but if I like something I tend to focus on what I like. Idk, I guess maybe it felt a little unclear with what was happening in the post with Anton and Alpha? I feel like it's a intentional though. Also maybe I'm not explaining it right.

And yes, undertale. I think I might go get that some time after I'm back home and can properly invest time towards it. Right now I've just been playing the occasional 10 minute match of this game called Depth that I got on sale for Halloween. It's sharks vs divers and it's really cool because it's like two different games and it's really atmospheric; the divers are fighting for their lives against the sharks and need to use strategy/teamwork to stay alive, while the shark perspective lets you prey on and hunt the divers using scare tactics and brutality. One match I played as a shark where I was a mako which is like the assassin class, and my teammate was playing the thresher which is a disruption class; he went in and broke down a wall to scare everyone while I darted in and swam away with the diver who got seperated in the confusion. It's such a thrill and I just love sharks!!!!!!!!!!))

((Yeah collabs do take a fair amount of time. Something that works kinda well though if you can organize it, is if you both have the time (it was three people last time I did it) you can both get on the google doc at the same time and go back and forth pretty effectively. It eats up less time but sometimes it stresses me out because if you get writers block then you've got someone else waiting on you))

((Off the top of my head I can think of a few connections that might work for who knows who prior to the events of the second RP. It'll be something we should worry about after we have our characters set up though, then we can go 'hey, my guy could probably have known your guy cuz of this reason, wana do that?'.))

((Bioshock Infinite I definitely enjoyed more for the lore and gameplay. It was always kinda obvious that your choices were meaningless though, I never felt too attached to them but they were nice touches to make things feel a bit more interactive. My favorite was how I ended up getting Booker stabbed in the hand and for the rest of the game he had the bloody bandage on his palm because of it.))

((Alright, I'm off to bed now- I'll try and do some IC tomorrow when I have the mental capacity for it :)))

((I'm the kind of person who usually watches horror movies just to laugh at them while other losers get all scared. I'll look into that if I remember to, though.))

((Good decision; usually the moral eel only appears at the end of the trip.

    Ok, I'm done.))

((As for the other ending, a lot of what happened can be hopefully be inferred pretty easily from stuff in the next RP, but for now, I guess all that you really need to know for sure at the moment is that Haley's going home to quell the fridge logic and prevent this whole space subplot from repeating itself some 50 years later while the other three are busy wiping out any trace of the space subplots that actually happened. I think that it was kind of hard to balance the character wrap-ups with the loose plot thread wrap-ups in a short enough package to keep it feeling concise, and I think I could have done better, but I wanted to get it out the door before moving and the musical decided to really come crashing down on me and keep me from writing it for even longer.

I've heard of that game. I like sharks, but apparently it's hard to find a game where you can actually play as them. Plus, it looked kind of pricey.))

((Yeah, I usually don't feel comfortable writing at that sort of pace.))

((Pretty much what I was thinking of.))

((The choices were often so ham-fisted and ridiculous (help me choose sufficiently symbolic jewelry, Booker!) that I had no choice but to believe they were arbitrarily tallied up towards some good or bad ending like in the first game. Why else would you let your hand get stabbed by that obviously evil clerk? The lore and gameplay are honestly the things that really highlight just how disappointing the game is in comparison to the original Bioshock (or even Bioshock 2), at least when I think about it. Something as simple as asking why the fantastical city is in such a weird place highlights the varying amounts of thought that went into each game's setting and backstory, but I honestly find the explanation for why the plasmids are in Infinite to be the most egregious example. The only explanation that ever came up was that they just looked at the Bioshock 1 universe and said "I want those, too". But how did they get them? Do they have magic sea slugs, too? How'd they get them out of the bottom of the ocean and all the way up there without them exploding or something? Where do they keep the magic sea slugs? In that shallow beach that careens straight off of the side of the island? Or do they just work on magic quantum physics like everything else in the game? I feel like it really goes back to what you were saying about Tek's ideas earlier.

I think I've already talked about how the combat falls apart when you face anything stronger than a normal goon, and how I usually resorted to jumping on and off a rail over and over again to deplete their ridiculous health bars, but I'll just bring up the plasmids again. They hype them all up to be able to be set as traps (even though almost all of them are just stuns with different particle effects), and you'd think this would lead to situations like in the first game, where you'd have a limited time to set up a gauntlet of traps and fend off a horde of enemies, or set up a gauntlet of traps before fighting a powerful, initially neutral enemy that guards a unique and valuable resource, but that never happens. You're always going straight forwards with enemies in your way that either pop in and out of cover like whack-a-moles or charge straight towards you. The strategic angle that made the earlier games interesting is completely gone, which made the game very, very boring for me once it was combined with the lackluster guns and bullet sponge enemies.))

Alright, I'll just tell you because there's just enough evidence given to you in the pacifist route to justify this. Basically, you know once Mettaton starts getting all of those calls, and "he's" clearly able to tell the first caller is napstablook, and calls him "blooky." If you use the key you get from Bratty and Catty, you can enter the house next to Blook's. There's a journal in there claiming that they were a cousin to Napstablook, and that they wanted to be on the stage. There's a certain passage that concludes Mettaton is actually a woman, and that she had some affections towards Napstablook, which makes them sort of "being together" in the end credits, makes everything all happy.

((There's a reason the name is Chara, as that is easily short for the word Character. It's also apparent in the game's files that Chara's sprite has the letter M before Chara, possibly meaning Main Character in some way. That's only speculation though, not really confirmed, so I could be wrong.))

((Plus there's the fact that the game is not only able to be extremely happy-go-lucky, and makes you want to laugh and have fun, but Toby also managed to pull off the exact opposite of the coin, making you feel disgusted and sad, even going so far as to permanently alter your game if you keep going on your warpath of destruction and carnage.))

I looked through the journals again before I finished the game a couple of minutes ago, and I didn't see anything saying that he is a girl, could you elaborate on that?

I suppose you could argue that he identified as one at some point, or was simply gender-neutral like Napstablook, though. But I think the fact that every character in the game refers to Mettaton as a man is a pretty clear indicator that he is one. He's by no means too shy or subtle to tell anyone that sort of thing, and even if you'd argue that he was, I don't think that he wouldn't tell his closest friends like Alphys (who built him his body herself, so he could express himself) about that part of himself.

((Yeah, like I said, it's a placeholder name. Considering how the game names the character, I think it'd be necessary to do something like that.))

((I think I mentioned this earlier, but that's another one of the things I really don't like about Undertale. For a game with such a short running time (with some things looking a little rushed, if the overworld sprites used in The Core are any indication), it should really be encouraging players to play the game more, not guilting them out of resetting their saves or punishing them to such a ridiculous degree for trying to see everything it has to offer. The main reason a lot of people won't see everything in this game is just because the game frowns so heavily upon them doing any more than two runs (pacifist or neutral to pacifist) that they won't ever do any more.))

There's actually more to that by the way, but it would be much better if I didn't tell you, because it makes a certain line of dialogue in the pacifist route just that much sweeter. But, it does explain why a ghost robot could so, fabulous, I guess.

((Well, be prepared for a bad time if you want to go through genocide then. I dunno, for me the thrill of not knowing what clever joke, what instance of messing with the game would happen, and what was even going on at all became a game all on it's own. I had no idea what to expect out of Undertale besides what I had already played in the demo, and even then that was a minuscule amount. I think it's just the fact that demo gave me a mixed response and lowered my standards that the game seriously shines to me, showing that a game that is actually finished is the kind of game you want to play. That being said, Tobyfox will apparently be updating the game with something soon, hopefully with a hard mode, ahuehuehue. Although that's based off of rumor, I don't really know if he is or not, but that's been circulating on Twitter. I wouldn't get my hopes up though.))

((I just realized that the menu music for Undertale is Chara's theme but not a demonic version of it for some reason. Odd.

Also, I'm going to be here a while, ))

((I'm probably going to play through again today, lol.))

((I feel like all of the music I use in the next RP will be entirely Undertale music.))

((I just found out where the key you can buy off of Bratty and Catty takes you. Everything makes sense now.))

I've heard some people say that Mettaton is supposed to be trans, is that it? Dunno if it's true or if Mettaton was just effeminate, but I suppose some of his dialogue about how he's finally found a body that matches his feelings and all of that kind of reflects that.

((Yeah, I've seen some things. I'm going to have to do a genocide run and hope I know what you're talking about if you don't tell me what this mystical thing is, though.

Though I will tell you that there's a way to access a hard mode in the game already, it just isn't finished yet. You'll know what to put into the name entry screen if you finished a Pacifist run.))

((I always thought that Chara was more of a placeholder name. The Fallen Child has always been much more appealing if you ask me, what with the parallels to mythology and all that.))

((I've been listening to Death by Glamour a lot today. Though that same channel also did a nice mash-up of Your Best Nightmare that led into Finale.))

((For anything you could focus on... I'd say do more of those collabs. I think that last post was really amazing looking. It seemed much more put together, interactive, and flowed really nicely. I don't think Bobert and my post are going to come close to it, nor any other post in the rest of the RP, so something you did there really hit it. Possibly work on more connections to other characters?

I'd also like to propose a 'character connection' requirement in the next RP. A list of other characters you're connected to in SOME way (Doesn't have to say what, but saying so would be nice) that aren't your own, that way you have something to interact with another character. I like the thought of someone's character, having directly, or indirectly, affected someone else's character. "You bombed my village, now I want you dead!" but waiting until the right moment. "You helped my mother throughout tough times, now I'm going to repay that deb." or just "You're my aunt, family sticks together. I never knew you before, but I'll stand by your side." Could end up being some really interesting stuff, just starting with a simple seed of *Is connected to X character*))

((The thing about collabs is that they take a long time to do. Like, that one took two weeks to finish, and we were doing at least one "turn" a day, which is why I wanted to do them at the end. That's also probably the reason it worked so well; we each had the time to slow down and focus on characters and dialogue and subtlety (though I'll blatantly explain where I was going with that as many times as I feel like in the OOC) and stuff. There's no rushed character development or crummy finales to work around and we could just sort of shine.))

((Idunno, I feel like we could just have our characters interact with each other more. We didn't do too much of that here, unfortunately, but I also think it's really fun to see two characters go from not knowing or caring for each other at the beginning to being inseparable by the end.))

I only have three things from Gen's past that's going to haunt him for right now, and I'd rather that every character doesn't hate him. He's already got two that hate him (though they're my own characters), and the fact that he's going to be a known criminal with a bounty on his head already makes him a target.))

((I feel kind of sad now that I haven't done a collab. My posts have almost always been lacking in details, due to the fact that I'm far better at dialogue and world building than I am descriptiveness like, "he swings his sword precisely, clashing their weapons together with sparks as sweat poured down his forehead." Usually I'd just do, "and he swung his sword, locking against the others weapon," or something less intensive. I blame that on D&D though. I'd put all of my focus on setting and characters, and we'd use the little diorama sets so that I wouldn't really have to worry about being descriptive of what's going on and around the characters.

That being said though, I'll make sure to pour my all into every post in the next RP, and be as descriptive as I need to be.))

((Yeah. Some of my characters aren't really going to have the opportunity to know many others right out of the gate, so I feel like it's important not to force anything.))

To me, that makes me feel absolutely terrible, and I know someone's probably going to say "it's a game, calm down," but I can't really be calm knowing I may have ruined what could potentially have been someone else's favorite game if I had just kept my mouth shut. So I can't honestly apologize enough you guys, and I only hope you're still okay with me after all this.))

((Nah, I managed to forget about just about everything you said about the game by the time I started playing (though if you wanted to improve it you could have just told me how to solve that stupid and pointless piano puzzle). Personally, I hate how many people have never played this game and just watched it on Youtube or something. If it's some pretentious walking simulator like The Beginner's Guide or Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, then fine, but I think Undertale loses a lot of it's punch when characters are trying to talk to you, but end up talking to some Let's Player.))

    ((Stop beating yourself up, Kohai.))

((Idunno, you could have just told me that there were absolutely fabulous robots and I would have been in.))

((I think that's a given when you have an option to not kill certain characters in a video game. The idea that none of your choices would matter and lead to one mediocre ending has already proven itself to be a terrible one (e.g. Bioshock Infinite).))

((Ended up going to my friends party for about two or three hours. I was put into a "smash bros tournament," as he had his WiiU set up, and so I managed to place 4th out of 16 as Ryu. Ryu's in smash bros for some reason now, I don't really know why.))

((I did however spend most of my time watching really old free domain monster movies, which I have a lot of respect for doing a lot with what little they had. I think what horror is missing now is they just throw out too much. Tone it back, play some more on the psychological side rather than the "shock and gore" side, and things would probably improve.))

((Ah whatever, I'll put this into spoilers.))

((What's worse, Genocide makes you love every character even more when you force yourself to kill them. I know this is a quote from somewhere, I forget what, but it goes "people only show their true nature when their lives are on the line." And really, it made me love every character just that little bit more learning what they would do and fight for in their final moments. It's too bad that you have to literally become the villain of the story to do these things though, killing everyone and whatnot, and learning the true nature of your character as you venture deeper into your slaughter. Genocide's also cemented that Asriel is my favorite character in the game, simply because of the fact that he never really has grown up at all. Yes, the whole deal with losing compassion and pretty much all feelings but hate and malice turned him into what he became, but deep inside he was still that child that just wanted to have fun and be loved; by you.))
((It also took me far too long to realize this, but Asriel's name is a combination of Asgore and Toriel.))

((Ah, Bobert, thank you so much.))

((I had to do that all on my phone really quick, so that's why I edited it a lot. It's really hard when your arm's numb because someone's cut off your circulation by sleeping on you.))

((I'll be back in the morning, probably.))

((I think Ryu's in Smash Bros. because they voted him in or something. I personally adore the decision, mostly due to all of the salty smash fans who can't figure out something as simple as a quarter-circle.))

((We watched a one-and-a-half star horror movie. It was a very, very enjoyable experience. Characters would enter and act like they were going to be the focus of the story and randomly get run over by a car, and all of us would burst out laughing.))

Yeah, Asgore's terrible at naming things. It explains a lot when you think about it, from the area names ("Hotland", "Waterfall", etcetera) to Flowey's name.

I haven't actually gone and done a Genocide run yet (if I do I'll quit before the end), but the favorite quote I've come across from it so far is from Burgerpants:

"I can't go to Hell, I'm all out of vacation days."

My favorite character is definitely still Mettaton, though. Even before he became absolutely fabulous, he managed to steal the show so many times, even managing to do it while offscreen due to things like his own hotel. His motivations were amazing, the impossible-to-lose minigames were clever, and his boss battle was my favorite in the game by far, due to being an amazing mix of an RPG, a shoot-em-up, and Devil May Cry with all of it's bizarre posing and the Style Meter.

Ok, I'm just going to say that I'm going to be very disappointed if this doesn't turn out to have Mettaton's face on it.))

((Wow Lavul, nice work. I think I'm inspired to get going some more. Let's finish this up! You too Bobert, of course. lol.))

((*Sees spoilers* *Opens* *Closes* Nope, too long. Plus, no spoilers for Undertale for me!))

((Thanks. Not much to do until you and/or Maple Waifu come up with something now, unfortunately.

What I'm really itching for is some constructive criticism, though. I know I've doled out a lot of it over the years, but it feels strange not getting very much myself. Anything that I could use work on? Or at least anything that I did really well that I should focus more on? I want to make the next RP as good as possible, and I think that involves bettering myself as well.))

((Waifu needs to get it, too. Someone as sweet as him needs to play a game where you're rewarded for being so sweet.))
