On the x14 instructions it says: "in Minecraft 1.2, replace all the glass with leaves", does this apply to 1.3.2 as well? Never built this, would hate having to do it twice.

It can't hurt, but if Mojang fixed a particular lighting bug that was affecting the machine, it may not be necessary anymore.

Guys, I had a look through the Minecraft 1.3 code and all the Lights Out fixes are already there. If you are still getting lighting errors, it's something that Lights Out never fixed anyway. That said, I could still take a look at your screenshots and try to offer my insight.

New light sensor: Light Sensor Pico!

It works just like the Nano and has the same sensitivity, but it's only 3x3x5 (instead of 3x4x6). I actually posted this design back on page 7, but I didn't think it was worth building until we could get ice with silk touch, which we can in a few days from now.

I'll update the first post when I get a chance. Enjoy!

    Hey gang, here's some news:

Bed War II will be a collaboration between myself and three_two, creater of the Vinyl Fantasy series!

We already play together on an RFW team and the Nativ survival server. He seems to really like Bed War I and I think his epic style is a perfect fit for Bed War II. And he's a great guy to work with!

We're still in the very early stages though, so nothing to show off yet, but stay tuned.

I've recently been experiencing an odd issue with my 12x sensor. At night, the system works fine and all my lighting comes on, but when dawn hits and the system goes back into 'daytime' mode, the sensor spazzes out and both rows of BUD switches toggle on and off constantly. While the resulting lightshow in my yard was amusing the first few times, going over to the sensor to reset it every morning has become a little frustrating. To the best of my knowledge nothing has been changed with the sensor, which makes this even more confusing. It's been working fine for a while now, but suddenly started acting up, and I'd really rather not rebuild the entire machine.

All I can tell you is to look over it block by block and make sure everything is exactly right, particularly the wiring and the repeater settings. There's gotta be a subtle mistake somewhere.

For the people who don't see the grid, what browser are you using? If it's an IE issue, I can't say when or if I will have a chance to fix it. I use a Mac and I just don't have easy access to IE. I do have a Windows machine kicking around here somewhere. If I get a chance, I will hook it up and try to fix this.

i got a question about the 12X version becaus you recomend that 1 and i am really intersiting about light sensors

how many seconds do it takes to switch on/off? i really want to know becaus i have now a kind of 4X nano based light sensor from someone on youtube he works fine 4-6 seconds to switch on/off thats good enough but i like to learn redstone and i wanted to have a compact and really fast 1.

    thanks in advance
    and have a nice day

There is a way to calculate the times, but the grass growing/dying rates changed in Minecraft 1.2 and I haven't gotten around to crunching the numbers again. I can tell you that there is a lot of variation in the timing, and no upper bound. The average time is going to be a couple of seconds, but it will take over 30 seconds somewhere around 1% of the time. Regardless, the 12x is definitely going to be a lot faster than four Nanos chained together.

i beleive this does not work in 12w25a the grass does not spred so the water is running 24/7

We just built one on the Nativ server which is running 12w26a and it works great.

    Okay, here are the screenshots.

Wow, that's pretty strange. It looks like the lighting engine is completely broken. When did this start? Do you have any mods installed? What kind of computer/GPU are you using?

    Hello

I seem to have a ligthing problem with the newest Minecraft version, that seems somewhat related...
Im using an Intel Mac OS X10.4 - minecraft is updated and Vanilla (reinstalled completely new 3 times already)

At Night all blocks (ground, water, tress, etc.) are lit - only exceptions are the player and animals/mobs. If you dont see the sky or a mob you cant tell whether its day or night. At night no light source seems to work underground (or only with veeery small effect) - so far i have seen no spawning so it seems to me the game registers the areas as lit, but just doesnt display it. At daytime ligthing underground works as it should Oo.
This bug is extremely annoying and makes the game very un-fun to play.

Any idea how that could be fixed or where the problem could be?

    best regards
    Mm

    EDIT:
Contrary to the skylight bug the phenomenon seems to be global and not limited to certain areas

That sounds very strange. I've never heard of anything like it. Can you post a screenshot?

Should the .class files be inside the zip file when put in minecraft.jar?

No, extract the .class files from the zip and then add them to the jar. They should overwrite files that are already in the jar.

It seems like when I relight in Mc edit more light errors apeare.

Could you post a screenshot of the lighting errors that come from MCEdit?
BTW everyone, I looked into merging Lights Out into Minecraft Forge and it's entirely feasible. But I'm holding off until 1.3 comes out because there is a good chance that these lighting bugs will be fixed and Lights Out won't be needed anymore.

posted a message on [BW] BED WAR - A new kind of team PvP
Hi folks, I just wanted to give you an update on the whole Bed War project. The map has been played quite a bit now, in and out of tournaments, and I've made many changes to it. I've come to realize that there are deep flaws in the map that are not practically fixable. Bed War was a new game type and I had no idea, when I was first designing the map, how it would be played in practice. I believe, because of this, that I took the map in the wrong direction from the very start, in a few different respects:

    • I assumed that there would be a combat frontline that both teams would try to push forward, and so I made the map very one-dimensional. It turns out that this doesn't happen at all, because it's nearly impossible to reliably hold territory in Minecraft (without a pre-built defensive structure). Instead, it's more of a hide and seek game, and the linear map shape is not well suited to that.
    • I made the environment too harsh, making it impractical to move the bed early in the game. Because of that, I had to put a large barrier between the teams to keep them from rushing each other, and this means it takes too long for the game to get interesting.
    • Large sections of solid blocks make it too easy to dig a byzantine tunnel network and make finding the bed a drawn out, tedious process for the winning team. I do like the bed hiding concept in general, but it shouldn't be a needle in a haystack scenario.

Despite these problems, I still think the fundamental Bed War concept has a lot of potential. I see the first Bed War map as an experiment, and I'm using everything I learned from that experiment to make Bed War II, which will be very different. I've already started working on it, but it's too early to say when it will be complete. I will release more details as work progresses.

In order to stay focussed on the new map, I won't be making any more big changes to Bed War, or actively promoting it. I will still fix bugs or things that break in new Minecraft versions, but that's it. It is still played and enjoyed by many people.

Thank you to everyone who has played the map, developed strategies for it, used it in tournaments, or derived inspiration from it. Here's to the future!

posted a message on New pistonless BUD switch design
This is (as far as I know) a new type of BUD switch that exploits a glitch with redstone power levels. It uses no pistons and is totally silent. There are other BUDs that don't use pistons, but this design has some advantages (and disadvantages) over them.

    Pros:
    • Silent
    • No glowstone
    • Works in any orientation
    • Can be reshaped in many ways
    • Sensor is exposed on 5 sides, and it can sense the opaque block under it
    • Exploits an old bug that is unlikely to be fixed

    Cons:
    • Not compact, hard to fit in machines

Hey romibi, this is very impressive! I am making a mod with similar functionality and would really love to know how you pulled this off, in technical terms. If you don't want to post a bunch of technical stuff here, could I chat with you by email or skype some time? I would be very grateful.
