No, the forums have not always been affiliated with Curse. But they have been for a while. It provides... special forum science stuff. Honestly, I don't know what exactly they do, besides the occasional contest. Minecraft the game, which isn't run by the same people as the forums, has no direct connection to Curse.
Not to advocate piracy of Minecraft, but piracy of Minecraft would help you best in this case. I do remember that once when bugs made Alpha unplayable, some prominent forum user (don't remember who) had an archive of previous versions. It may have gone as far back as indev.
I still have nightmares about Indev. The cold nights spent in a dirt cave. No ladders. No doors. Creepers.
Though this forum gets the most traffic, you may want to try the modding sub-forum, where you'll get the most help.
I will help you anyway. After opening the .jar, delete the meta.INF folder. Open the mod you downloaded and drag the files into the root of the .jar in WinRAR. It will recompile, and it should work.
Until I play a game that has creepers and redstone, I will not have found a direct Minecraft ripoff. Every game takes inspiration from other works of media, some just borrow a little more heavily than others. Hell, as long as entertaining games are being made, I don't care if they cash in on the exact formula of a game that has proven to be quite successful.
Since I never really used PSN, this more than makes up for the outage, which didn't affect me at all. Already own InFamous and LittleBigPlanet, so... Dead Nation and something else it is.
Even though I don't want to get into a rather large flamewar about piracy, I have to say once again that it's not theft. A pirate does not remove the original item from its owner. Piracy is not direct sales lost, it is potential revenue lost. If I did not pirate music, I would get it in other ways. I still, however, would not buy most of it because I really don't want to waste what little money I have on something that is easily attainable with a few keystrokes.
The only time I'll actually 'purchase' music, as you say, is when I buy a CD. I then proceed to rip said CD, and backup the resulting files in a secure location. Much better than buying something on iTunes, but Amazon is looking pretty good with that cloud drive thing.
Aw, who am I kidding. I download most of my music for free, often simply by searching site indexes. Discography torrents are also fun.
Depends. Though some older games may be available on a service like Steam, I think most older games, since they don't even create revenue for the publisher or developer anymore, could be downloaded. Though it may be technically illegal, nobody cares after a certain point.
PC. I find that the open nature of the platform, with room for things like freeware, emulators, extreme customization, and, in my opinion, better input, allows for a better way for me to play what I want. I own a PS3, but don't play it a lot. I also have a Wii, but use it solely for homebrew and emulation. I would rather play an 8- or 16-bit platformer than a generic space FPS any day.
Get a WWII game. Tell them it's interactive historical learning.
With all seriousness, games are no more 'desensitizing' than any other form of media. I would even go so far as to argue that real life conversation and experience, which, at your age, may consist mainly of sex, cursing, and guns, affects your judgement and emotions much more than any interactive medium ever could.
