I would assume that there is a plethora of content that may be finished already, however Notch and Jeb are keeping it on strict lockdown until the FINAL release... allowing for an incredible release day where all sorts of unexpected things get added.
My personal wish list:
A purpose for Nether dungeons, strongholds, and NPC villages (other than collecting blocks and items)... There should be some sort of goal or quest.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.... 1 more ore type.
Underwater stuff.
The way i understand it, nothing except bug fixes are being added for release. All new content stops on 10/18. What is finished then will be the complete (or not so complete in this case) product known as release. There will be content updates after this.
So i thought that enterprise model in minecraft was impressive. A few days ago I found this game. It is still basically a pre-alpha prototype but it is pretty fun. Anyways, the guy who made the enterprise needs to come play it. http://blockaderunnergame.com/Projects/BlockadeRunner.aspx
Ok so im trying to get this to work with an 32x32 texture pack. First I used MCPatcher. Everything worked. Then i installed modloader. Everything worked. Then i installed this, and the texture pack is back to default but water isnt animated.
Hmm how about a nade that doesn't destroy surroundings? Exploding, damaging foe, but not damaging houses and stuff? There is somewhere a mod that does that for creepers. I think it's awesome
Bleh. I had a way better game idea. But I think that unless you were actually someone with contacts to help you sell the game, a coder would much rather either
A: Get a real job with a game studio
B: Create an indie game by themselves or with a few friends with even profit split
Here are a few more problems that I see:
An RC Racing game, even with AAA production value (which it won't have), is a boring idea and no one would buy an indie game like that for $50. Hell, people don't buy Minecraft for $50 and the idea is 100x better.
I have a really good idea for a game though. I'm going to start it soon in java with LWJGL. Don't really want to explain what it is because to me it seems good enough to steal.
Sorry monsterbasher but I don't think you have enough knowledge and experience to see this through and manage it properly. This is a coup d'état. Here is the new thread.
This project will be about creating an Elder Scrolls themed singleplayer story driven experience in minecraft. It will include a world, texture pack, and modified class files. Please join the website and post on the application forum and you will be upgraded to your role if accepted. The world will be built on a private server which I will put up shortly. I will set up github if another coder joins the project. I plan to start on the code after 1.8 and for now just do models and work on setting it all up. Here are some ideas i've been throwing around:
Dev Tools:
NPC creator tool for builders to create and NPC and choose from many models and skins, set conversation/shop options, and create waypoints based on time of day
Spawn designator tool for builders to select a cuboid area to spawn a certain type of mob
Scripted event trigger area designator for builders to select a cuboid area and choose from a list of scripted events.
Game Stuff:
Level up GUI with skill points etc.
Magic
NPCs can sleep in beds
New mobs
Better stealth with takedowns
Horses
Tons of new items
New crafting table type thing: Alchemy Station, Spell Station
Conversation system
Quests
Story related scripted events
Also: as some of you may know, this was an idea by monsterbasher which I liked and I said I would do coding. However, I think the project should be lead by someone who knows about modding and is serious about taking the time to work on and complete this large project.
So the jobs:
Artist:
Item sprites, mob skins, and the texture pack
Builder/Level Designer:
Creates the whole world. Will need a head planner as well as lower rank planners for specific towns and straight up builders
Coder:
If someone joins up we will split into roles. I think one person doing mobs, one doing core stuff, and one just adding tons of items
Writer:
Come up with the story and write the dialogue. Before you are accepted as the writer I would like to hear your basic idea for the story.
I would kinda like to talk to you guys more about your plans for the modding part of this. Do you have skype or some kind of instant messaging we can use? Like a chat room for all of the project members.
The only thing that might be wrong with me is:
A: I'm about to go on vacation for 2 weeks
B: After I come back I will have time to work on it but I will also keep my other projects going.
Also, you're going to need a modeler if you want to make new mobs. Those are 3D models and I have no experience with creating them. All the swords etc. with their effects should be easy. I could also try to implement leveling, but that would be a big undertaking. I suggest the builders get a private server if you don't already have one in order to create the world together.
One of the things that will definitely be tough is friendly NPCs. I'm not going to be recreating Radiant AI in minecraft that's for sure.

I think it may have gotten a tweet from notch.

Semi-Incompatible with Reflective water. Causes moving water to still be reflective making it look pretty weird.
Incompatible with Better Grass. Sides of dirt blocks that should have the grass texture have a stone texture.
Blocks moved by pistons lose their paint

Wow i never even thought of that.

Also maybe some books would help. But I would say definitely use OpenGL for 3D but start out with simple 2D games using SDL or something easier.

This is a big project but I love elder scrolls so I'm willing to give it a go. I believe I have the experience necessary: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/456831-173wip-more-slime-mod-v052/page__gopid__6267884#entry6267884
