So… have I missed anything? Been a while since I've visited this thread (I blame real life). Recently started playing again, so I figured I'd check in and see what new and exciting updates have been added since my last visit. I see by the title that an update has been released and that there is new rail and cobble (plus random stuff)… anything in particular I should look for?

Also, hi Glimmar! Hope things are going well with you.

Passing on a problem that one of my friends has - the new Iron Ore texture is very hard to see for folks that are colorblind, blending in with the regular stone textures. (I think that he is red/brown colorblind, if that helps.)

He has a much easier time with your old Iron Ore.

    The Auld Grump

In the meantime, I'd suggest looking at WAILA (What Am I Looking At). It's a mod that ties into NEI (Not Enough Items) which displays the name of any block you're looking at, as well as some other pieces of info. That might help with differentiating iron and other blocks until Glim gets an updated version of the textures out.

Ooh, the update is out. Time to boot up Minecraft again. Gotta decide which project to work on, got a lot of half-completed builds all over the place… but looking at all these new textures, I'm kinda tempted to go back to some of my old builds and update them instead of finishing building my newer projects. Some of the new blocks would really spruce up my Nautilus quite nicely… and I just remembered that I still haven't finished building the bottom half of THAT either. And I started building that back in 2010, when the map was an active server. I'm really not that good at completing these projects, am I?

I'm loathe to say anything about it, but that Curse/Forge link brings up a, "you are forbidden from that action," error screen. Maybe only you can see it until you make it go live. Oh the anticipation...

*EDIT* the link does not work, but the updates are there if you navigate to the v15 page on your own.

I'm noticing the same. Looking at the URL, I get the feeling that the link was for one of the settings pages, which is probably only viewable by the owner of the page. Still, looking at the Overview page, it looks good.

Welcome back! Hopefully things have settled down for you a bit. And yeah, I see what you mean by fighting with YouTube, Imgur, etc. It seems like Imgur is still putting up a bit of a fight. As for the forum layout… yeah, still no progress from what I've seen. You would think that somebody would look into the issue and fix it, but it seems whoever is running the forum just hasn't bothered, which is a real pain

Looking at the new tiles, I'm really tempted to make an archaeological dig somewhere near my city, excavating long-lost ruins of an ancient civilization.

Every time someone asks, the release date is pushed back a week.

Oh wait, that's the Kerbal Space Program release schedule.

Wow. I forget to check the forums for a couple of weeks, and all of a sudden the thread is filled with all sorts of fun, exciting new textures. Really love all the new stuff! Hopefully I can convince myself to pick up Minecraft again and try it out once the final update is posted. Been too distracted with Europa Universalis, which I picked up during a recent sale, so my Minecraft city hasn't had a lot of work done to it recently. Can't wait to see what other goodies are in store for us.

The 1.8 ready version of the pack has not yet been released. It seems that Glimmar is finishing up a few things before releasing, although it might be a partial release depending on exactly how much is done and how much is left to do. It seems that Real Life™ caught up with Glimm and he needs a bit of time to catch up. I'd suggest checking back everyone once in a while to see if an update is out, but it may be a few weeks or more before he gets it to an acceptable state.

Hopefully they will allow Searge to finish the MCP and we can have mods for the last Mojang release. I see moving MC to C# but I don't see them stopping resource pack development. I don't think they'll kill modding since that and the resource packs are what make the community so passionate. Microsoft desperately wants to be more relevant in the cloud and this is their way in. Now that the evil duo is gone, we may have some hope.

I've never been part of an acquisition that went well for the employees. I hope Notch takes care of them because M$ won't. And M$ stated they will be making the ROI by the end of 2015, so I see more charges coming, with the first being Minecraft 2.0.

At least we can keep our old versions.

This is more or less what I see happening. I doubt they'd switch Minecraft straight to C#, as that would be quite a bit of work, but I could see them ramping down updates for Minecraft and starting work in Minecraft 2.0 (or whatever they decide to call it), switching to C# or some other language then. As for mods, texture packs, and the like… hasn't Microsoft been fairly lenient in that area? I haven't dealt with their games in a while, but I remember they were relatively open to mods in the past, be it the Age of Empires series, Flight Simulator, or the PC versions of Halo. Of course, things change (I believe that this was also back when EA was a decent company), so it's hard to tell what exactly will happen with the modding scene. If they're smart, they'll leave well enough alone and let things go on as is.

I'm just glad that Mojang wasn't bought up by EA… *shudder*

Looking at what HateSolstice asked, I'm curious if he meant Optifine instead of Forge. As was mentioned earlier, I don't think Forge is necessary for any texture packs (that I'm aware of, at least), but Optifine could be used as a stand-in for MCPatcher. That said, I haven't been keeping up with Optifine, so I'm not sure if it's caught up to MCPatcher in features or if they've fixed some of those compatibility issues that used to plague it.

As I look into it, Optifine is compatible with Forge, so if you're using mods that require Forge you may have to use Optifine instead of MCPatcher. You may lose some features, but it should work to an extent. Again, not sure how many differences there are, but this pack is optimized for MCPatcher use instead of Optifine.

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is. I just tried it again, copying exactly what I had in the above post, and it appears to still be working for me. Don't forget to hit "Save" after editing the profile. When I tried it again, I used the "normal" view, and it worked, but if it doesn't work for you then you might try pasting it in while in BB view. As for OS and/or browser, I highly doubt that's the problem. I think it's something on the back end of the forum. I'd suggest trying again, make sure everything gets copied over properly, and make sure you save it.

Glad to hear that the finger is feeling better. I believe Mojang was saying that 1.8 was due on first week of September, and that they only pushed out a release candidate for bug testing and the like, although hopefully it doesn't change too much and the MCPatcher crew can use it to get the update out soon.

The new wet sponge looks quite nice and makes a nice accent for bridges and the like. Really liking the daylight sensors as well, although its hard to pick a favorite. They all look so good!

As for the signature, mine seems to be working, although I did have to update the URL. Here's the code I'm using:

When you release the updated version of the pack after 1.8 comes out, are you planing on just pushing out what you currently have and leave anything you haven't added as vanilla, or do you have other plans? It occurs to me that you could probably use some of your old 32x alts as temporary stand-ins for certain textures. While this might not be preferred (since they are 32x instead of 64x, and the textures there are rather dated), they might make for better stand-ins than Vanilla. I know you have a half-dozen or so doors which might do for the new selection of doors (maybe with some slight color tweaking), and there are a number of textures that could work for the various Prismarines and Sea Lanterns.

While I would understand that you might not like the idea of using these older textures, it might work well as a stopgap measure to keep things easier on you until you can recover, and it would keep those commenters asking "Why is X showing up as vanilla textures" questions that you'd likely get swamped with.

In any case, I do hope you are recovering well. The new Mooshrooms look great as always, and the iron doors look sturdy enough to keep the pressures of the deep sea at bay for any submersibles you might be building.

Good to hear you're back! Between you and Glimmar being silent for some time, I was getting worried that the two main texture packs I use might have lost support. I hope things are going well and that you find your motivation again. As always, no rush, feel free to take your time getting back into the swing of things. It's just nice to see that you haven't simply disappeared off the face of the Earth.
