So what are you people suggesting? That if you're a girl you either have to hide your gender or you just can't do things that are considered atypical for women?
No - what is being implied is that people aren't interested in women who do atypically girly things unless they fit a narrowly defined gender stereotype like Minecraft Chick.
Reminds me of the year I went to a music industry showcase and saw a booth selling guitars made "especially for girls." They were pink, many had butterfly stickers on the pickguards. I couldn't help but feel like some girls might look at those guitars and think they were being talked down to.
I imagine a lot of girls look at the gender roles available for them in gaming culture and feel the same way.
Nov 4, 2011The pre-releases are intended to test changes that will be part of the final version.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
If you don't like testing things, you definitely shouldn't install clearly labeled experimental updates.

Now the houses, libraries, even the blacksmith all seem like they were shooting for the least amount of effort and called it good.
I just assumed they didn't want villages to be these huge, impressive cities littering the landscape -- and that they wanted the feel of minecraft over-world to remain wild and unexplored.
I mean, it would sorta make building fortresses and castles and manors feel empty if the world was already full of awesome, complex structures.

The point is you act like Mojang is special for allowing modders into their game when in fact it's pretty much expected.
Whatev. Enjoy your little quibble. The spirit of my reply remains the same.
Oct 20, 2011Tale of Kingdoms looks like fun - but its a totally different thing than vanilla Minecraft. I'd hate to see something so far-reaching and specific added to the game.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
And it's a lot easier for mod developers to pile on the content since the hardest part -- developing a working game itself -- has already been done for them by the people at Mojang ... who are kind enough to open their hard work up to modders.

It used to be about exploring the land, and making creations so amazing, it would make people stop in their tracks.
It is still about all of those things.
Did I miss the update that made it so you can no longer explore the land and make amazing creations?

Dec 2, 2011I can think of few more worthless, immature forum topics than this one.Posted in: Discussion
Yes, lets have the forum members use their tiny little brains and myopic views of the development of Minecraft, and give them a one-versus-the-other, black and white voting topic.
There is maybe, maybe .01% of the forum members that actually understand enough about game and software development to provide an actual valid response to this vote. The other 99.99% are probably still going to grade school or have never worked in a computer-related industry.

Why can't you just let her dye her hair whatever color she likes? Why do you have a problem with her pink hair? And in the videos she is just being herself, yes maybe she does some stupid things in Minecraft but who cares? As I said If you don't like it then noone is forcing you to watch it.
Jeez...tolerance people. Ever heard of it?
Its in the name of tolerance that I made my post. Let me try to re-explain my point through an analogy:
Let's say i'm gay. And I decide to make a Minecraft LP. I could just make an LP and try to be entertaining. Or I could make an LP called GayGuyMinecraft and do an LP and try to be entertaining.
One of these methods perpetuates labels and typecasting. One of these does not.
Mojang's cast looks more well-rounded now that they have their token girl. But she's more than just a token girl; she's an extrovert, a trait well-suited to the role of "director of fun" that she's now growing into.
Great thoughts overall McKathlin. I have to disagree on this part though. She COULD be more than a token girl, but I feel that she chooses not to by way of the persona she has created.
I respectfully disagree that she is just being herself.
This all being said, she is free to do whatever she wishes, and i wish her the best. But the OP asked why people "hate" on her. I felt like explaining why I don't like her style.

Programmers tend to lose interest in their projects near the end and focus on new ones.
The majestic cry of the wild ClearlyNotAProgrammer in it's natural habitat. The ClearlyNotAProgrammer flourishes on internet boards where it eats a healthy diet of telling actual programmers how to do their job. Look at that beautiful plumage!

I'm find with the features that are in game. Just build on what is there already. Like this whole "dragon" and "end" dimension .. what a waste of time.
That new dimension should have been a whole new addon. Instead of wasting time on that crap they could have added more stuff in the regular world and nether. More blocks, more crafting items.
Once it is released - it is supposed to be finished. I'm tired of developers never finishing their work. "Oh we can always add more stuff later".
Don't release it until you are DONE.
I pitty you. you don't understand the joys of having a game update and finding new with in the old, to have cool things you can use with what you already know.
Thats said, notch said he never plans to stop minecraft updates, in his mind, it will never be done. He shouldn't of released it when it was "done" the game wouldn't of been as good, nor made as much money if he did that.
Oct 19, 2011Oh, man, this thread is great.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
THIS FEATURE IS WORKING AS ADVERTISED RAGE
Lots of people who complain about hardcore mode act like 'not rage-quitting' is some feat of superhuman calm and patience, rather than an ability you get upon advancing to double digits in age.
Oct 18, 2011Posted in: 1.0 Update DiscussionAll I'm saying is that Mojang should at least flesh out features when they add them before flitting off like a bird with ADHD on to the next shiney thing.
If only there was a way to ensure this. Maybe some sort of "freeze", where you stop adding features and focus on bug fixes and refinements.
Oh, to live in such a world...
