Locke I promoted you to head of the war legion. You've proven yourself worthy of the position, and I know it's a huge jump but I'm confident you're up for the responsibility.

You're a tactical genius and the exact kind of person we need in charge of our war division.

I've updated the OP and swept the inactive members - Holy **** we need to recruit more!

So I'm going to be doing the sweep tonight. I'm also changing the OP around so it looks much better.

Aww, I loved the red trim for Centurions...

Well, now I think about it, I suppose it wouldn't go particularly well with the forest green in Division III, and would probably conflict with the Praetorians. I am doing my best to get an area marked out on the other server I mentioned as a designated training area for OIN, and I've also begun working on a guide to more up-to-date combat strategies to work on while I don't have internet access and don't feel like practicing more on SSP. It's in Microsoft Word 2010 format, but if it's OK with Kevin, perhaps I can post the completed version in the Art of War thread. I'm hoping it will be helpful.

That sounds awesome, email it to me when you're done with it and I'll give it a lookover.

@Locke those are amazing, thanks so much! I'll edit them into the OP when I'm home from work.

    SO on the subject of servers;

    Pros:

Darkwood seems more stable (Automatic restarts every 30 minutes, little to no lag)

Lost Fate seems more intense, PVP happens a lot. There was a pretty fun battle between the players and staff this afternoon where the staff made an epic castle by the spawn and then the players worked together to destroy it.

    Cons:

Darkwood has some stupid plugin that allows people to make blocks un-breakable. (At the cost of $500 in game dollars, and a block of gold) in a ten meter each way radius. It also appears to crash the server occaisonally (But thanks to the restart script, it's back up within 30 minutes.)

I can't tell if Darkwood is going to be all out PVP constantly, but it's community seems more closeknit than Lost Fate's. It's got some pretty cool dungeons I've yet to find, and some cool places to see.

Lost Fate lags slightly for me, but it's also the biggest server. It doesn't have rules against combat logging, and I've seen three-four hackers get banned today.

    Verdict:
I'm going to play on Darkwood for awhile tomorrow and I encourage you guys to visit the servers too. Then after tomorrow we'll take a vote to pick our new server (Cosmic, have no fear, yours will be a choice too)

I'm signing off for the night. Adios.

Lol I think we posted at the exact same time.

I think we want a darker color for the trim of lower ranks, so they don't stand out as much. But I guess having white for Milites makes sense, seeing as they just graduated training. I don't think we want any two ranks to share the same trim, so maybe Centurions should have a different color.

Tan looks good, but it tends to look like skin. That combined with the leather could look a little weird.

I like dark green for division III.

I think dark red is better for the guard, it makes them look more serious.

make changes as you see fit, I just threw gold into the Centurion role because it looks leadershiply.

Let me experiment a bit. I'll post again when I figure something out. Shouldn't take too long.

    Ranks

Puer - White cloak no matter what

    Militem - White trim

    Gladius - Dark blue trim

Centurion - Golden trim and division cloak

Dux - Golden trim, dark red cloak

Imperator - Golden trim, med-dark purple cloak

    Divisions:

Training - Black and red cloaks with white trim for Militem/Gladius, White cloaks for puer

Supplies - light tan(Or other color you want, I got nothing for this one) cloak

    Combat - Dark Green cloaks

Praetorian - Light Red cloaks white/black trim

Sanguis Equites: Black Cloaks and Dark red trim.

If you think any of these will look weird together, change them around. I don't care deeply about any except for the rank trim of Centurion+ and the Sanguis Equites and Praetorians.

No problem, I enjoy making skins. Speaking of work, though, what do you think about rank color and division color switching places? Except Praetorians and Knights. Knights should stay the same, and Guards should have dark red tunics with rank trim. Oh, and you and the Duxis should stay the same, too.

Was going to suggest it, but then I realized there would be fewer possible color combinations I could think of that work good. if you can come up with something and tell me it'd work fine

    --Edit--

    Whoops, spoke too soon.

What about the different ranks in division I?

Are all Praetorians Gladii? No Centurions?

Dang. Now I've got to redo all these skins. Oh, well. I was bored anyway.

Oh, and these are TUNICS, not cloaks. Cloaks are like capes, and tunics are like shirts. Just saying.

One more thing: Are the knights Gladii and a Centurion? How about the Centurion gets the trim, and the Gladii don't?

Division I(training)/II(supplies) will have all the 'rank' tunics you mentioned plus their individual division trim.

All Preatorians are gladii except for Vig, he can add a trim to his later if he wants.

All knights will be centurions because they're going to be able to command troops in battle.

I'm going to appoint a Duxis as soon as someone becomes ready to take someone's place as Centurion.

    -Edit-
Thanks for backing me up on the whole -huckcraftisnotforus- thing Locke. I kept saying the clan doesn't like it and no one else mentioned anything about it in public, so It could have looked like I'm pulling the facts out of thin air. Saint go check out Lost fate, the second server link I posted, I think you'll find that it's a lot better than huckcraft.

Okay so hang on I got this figured out, I'll change the OP in a minute or two.

Training Division(Legio Educatio): pueri wear their normal clothing you described and Officers wear a black and red cloak.

    Resource Division(Legio Copiarum): orange trim.

Main Fighting Division(Legio Bellum): blue trim.

Praetorians(Royal Guard): Gladius ranked cloak with black trim.

Sanguis Equestris(Knights of Blood, Special Forces): Black cloak and dark red (Blood) trim.

Dux/Imperator should have cloaks the colors you mentioned with Golden trim.

I appreciate how much work this is for you, if you need help let me know. I'll be back in approx. 45 minutes, I've got a presentation to finish for work tomorrow.

Sainton the factions plugin is stupidly complicated and takes away from the vanilla warfare we want to play on. The servers we're looking at are more vanilla oriented and seem to have awesome communities surrounding them.

It would be really cool! At least in my opinion.

I like the idea of individual customization. Things like tucking in the tunic, removing or adding armor pieces, adding tears or stains, even. Not to mention designations for things like division and station. But I do think we should have some way to distinguish rank from the skin. When I first joined, I had no idea who was who, and different people were telling me to do different things, and I didn't know who to listen to. Another thing to mention is that our members don't always wear the clan skins. Maybe enforce that a little more?

Here's my idea for the uniform system:

    Puer: White Tunic
    Militem: Bright Red Tunic
    Gladius: Dark Red Tunic
    Centurion: Dark Green Tunic
    Dux: Navy Blue Tunic
    Imperator: Deep Purple Tunic

    Division/Station denoted by trim

    Puer: No Trim
    Engineering: Yellow/Black Trim
    Special Forces: Black Trim
    Capitol: Gold Trim
    etc.

I just tested all those out, and they look really cool. The only downside of showing rank on skins is that the enemy can tell who is what rank. But this shouldn't be a problem with us, because they already know who the leaders are, and they have no good way of telling which color denotes which rank.

I like this system. I'm going to be gone for an hour or two, can you work these up while I'm Gone?

    The divisions I plan on making are;

Division II (Currently works on resources) - Brown Trim
Training - Milan has his own thing (Black/Red stripes)
Praetorians(Spec. Ops. / Body guards) - Black trim
Division III(Main combat force) - White trim.

Hmm I'm questioning if we -REALLY- need rank distinguishable skins. I don't think we do at this point. It should work out that we can just use one skin and change the small details to match our personalities.

I use Gimp and I 'HSV Noise'ed the entire uniform at once (I pasted the head in afterwards). I like the way your shader looks, and I think that's a good base skin.

I'm trying to get away from 'uniforms' persay and just have standard-equipment type skins. I mean; our current Armor over Armor skin doesn't look good with armor on.

I just looked at it(Your first one, looking at the second now) in game and the only thing I'd change is the leg pads, to match the 'leather' and remove the pads that aren't on the front of the knee (Currently they're on all sides of the leg including the back, lmao my bad.)

    --Edit--

Perfect, thank you so much! Now if you could just make the entire set we'd be good to go.

I don't think factions should be required to let people know their location. It goes against everything on stealth and base location outlined in Val's thread.
