Glad we still have some interested parties, hope you guys can make good use of it all. I'm gonna leave this here, just a little something DJ and I have been working on:

Not that anyone cares, mind. ;)

Back in MC 1.2.5 DJ_Persnikity and I released Slappy McCracken's Ocean Life Expanded, a mod that had a pretty ambitious scope. Sometime during the development process MC upgraded to 1.3.2, and the mod has pretty much been stuck in limbo since. With the recent emergence of several fish-type mods, DJ and I decided it's time to throw in the towel, since we hadn't really done anything that didn't immediately get rolled back due to computer weirdness.

So, that's the bad news. The good news is that DJ and I have decided to release all of the stuff for Slappy's, techne models, textures, promotional material, clip art, and of course, the source code. The source code is probably 99% useless (I know it's a poorly structured and lacks comments) by now, but you're more than welcome to take a peek, implement it in your mod, use our models, use our textures, have at it. Some of you have asked directly if you can update the mod. Here's your chance. Do something cool with it. There are two conditions, however, and they are as follows: Any mods using our stuff should release the modified source code for others to study and learn from. Also credit us for the original work. That's it.

So, you interested? Then CLICK HERE

Coming sometime, kind-sorta-probably: Slappy McCracken's World of Wonder (current dev version is 1.7.2)!

I don't think you realize how much can change between Minecraft versions. If it were as simple as popping the source code in with the next version and recompiling, no mod would ever go without updates. Unfortunately a major version change (1.6.X to 1.7.x for example) usually denotes some major changes in the way MC handles things, which in turn means that Forge changes the way it handles things. The end result is a lot of cleaning, debugging and testing to make sure the stuff you already had working still works. Nobody likes releasing an updated version with no actual updates, so of course things get added or changed, old bugs get fixed... it's a time consuming process.

In short, they're working on it. I've seen some of the stuff they've been doing behind the curtain and it's fairly impressive, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Well now, this is looking rather promising. You've implemented a lot of the things I was looking at, and a lot of things I wouldn't have considered. I sent you a PM, but I'll throw it up here for folks to see: You (joetheantipro) have the permission of both DJ and I to use our models and textures (and the accompanying source code) as you see fit. Dunno if you want em, you seem to have a decent set going, but I believe we still have some techne models around here and I have the source if you need it, though I suspect you already know how to get it without my help.

We didn't really get much attention the first time around and DJ got it in her head to redo most of the models while I need to do a full rewrite of the code for about half our stuff (it's kind of a mess and at this point it'd be easier to rewrite than fix/update/upgrade all the static entities and many of the fish). DJ's been too busy with work (and not motivated enough) to do the models so I haven't bothered with code and the last working version of the mod was for 1.4. It may come back at some point but I have my eye on other programming projects, unless DJ decides she's ready for the model and texture work there's little point at the moment.

Truth be told I got tired of trying to keep up with the MC releases, so it'll likely be some time after the mod API drops when we do get around to it. Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't been on MC Forums in a while since I don't play Minecraft.

Dolphin and PCSX2 are a big deal to me, no amount of parallel processing is going to speed those up, and I've never used more than 3 cores aside from the times I was running two copies of Borderlands 2 at the same time, so more than 4 cores isn't a huge deal to me, though I have to agree that multi-threaded games seem like they're headed down the pipeline thanks to the new consoles and their X86 architecture with 8 cores, so AMD may have the edge in future endeavors.

Edit: Went with the 7850. Hopefully I got a good chip and I can get some overclocking out of it if I need to. I figure Intel and AMD are due to drop new chips soon-ish so I'll wait and see what they've got going on.

The i3 and the 6300 with mobo cost about the same. PSU wise I have... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182264 750 W 80 Plus Gold certified modular Rosewill badassery. Also, I literally have a hard ceiling of just over $150 so those are my choices as I see them. The extra $30 for a 7870 is too much of a stretch and seemingly light on performance gains considering how keen I am on overclocking. The FX6300 was an option because I do tend to multi task, but I don't see using more than a quad core in the near future.

Hola fellow Minecrafters, I'm looking to do some upgrades to my system. Currently I'm running a Pentium G620 CPU, 12gb of RAM (mis-matched so my SPD settings are low on one chip), and a GTX 460 768mb card. I'm running into some walls I didn't expect game-wise, so I need a new GPU and CPU. I have about $150 to work with, so my options for the CPU are a Haswell Core i3 running at 3.4ghz or a mobo switch with an FX6300. They cost around the same. GPU wise, I found a nice deal on a 2gb Radeon 7850 within my budget. Now CPU wise my initial goal was an i5 4670k but I don't have $200 to drop on a CPU at the moment. GPU wise, my ideal would be a GTX 760 or an HD 7950 Boost, and if I wait I can get it down the line.

I'm currently leaning toward the 7850 because I'm a sucker for a good deal on a solid card, and it costs about half what the GTX 760 does. My intentions with the rig would be multi-tasking a lot of single threaded applications like Minecraft in addition to playing the latest and greatest of the gaming world. I don't need 100% max settings at 2650x1600 or anything (living room PC, 1080p), I just want something I know will do me for a few years with high-ish settings. My research indicates that a stock FX 6300 wouldn't be significantly faster than this G620 for single threaded applications such as Minecraft, Dolphin, and PCSX2 (the latter 2 being dual core but heavily reliant on single core performance). The 7850 is at least 50% faster than my GTX 460 in every test I've seen and that's a jump that seems worth it for $130. Would there be an equally significant bump in going with the FX and overclocking the crap out of it, or the i3, with it's L3 cache and ~800mhz higher clocks be equally significant, or am I correct in thinking I would be better off waiting until I can get the i5?

Also if you know some deals on these components or have a stronger recommendation in the same price range, let me know.Thanks.

Hola forum members, how goes it? Some of you may remember me from the koi mod (pre final), or the lone release of Slappy McCrackens back around 1.2.5, and may be wondering what's going on with the mod. Post 1.3 a lot of things broke with the mod, but we finally got the fish working somewhat properly in 1.4.2, only to have them break again in 1.4.7. DJ is working and caring for my father has become my full time job, so I don't often feel up to coding and she lacks the time to do models and textures on a regular basis. We aren't dead, but the mod has been on hiatus. They locked the thread, and rather than resurrect it in the mods forum I've decided to move discussion here until we have a new release.

It's likely we're going to go back to the planning stages at this point and redo the mod from scratch, as I simply could not get the plants to spawn post 1.3. So, throw some ideas at me, we'll see what I have to show. DJ has plans to redo a good many of the models and textures, as an artist she's entitled to be fickle. On my end, I'm competent when dealing with code but I've no particular talent for it that I can discern, so it should be a marginally less complex process to start from scratch with the new ideas in mind rather than trying to patch them in and fix the dozens of errors that would arise at every turn.

In short, have you used the koi mod, Slappy's, or both? If not, tell us why, and if so, what did you enjoy about the mod? What would you like to see added or changed?

Sorry if the answer is already somewhere, but I cant find it.. Whats with your Koi Mob? Dead or maybe included in this mod? Sorry.. as I said i cant find something about it.

    Thanks :)

The koi mod more or less turned into Slappy's. Everything in the mod was originally based on the koi, though they did get a code update once I figured out how to make them shoal, seemed to work nicely for them. The dragon koi is the only one running off of the old style code and it's also the only fish that still works somewhat properly.

The plants will be diferent or will be the same as before? Will they be different spawn eggs or attached as a group with coral reefs and fish.

The current plan is to try and create coral shelves rather than individual coral. As for fish and the like, we will be trying different things, but their will certainly be fish that spawn separately from coral. DJ is on the same kick as she was when we first started and thinks I should work with a group of fish as a model rather than separate entities, I think the final result will be a fusion between both that technique and the current method.

    Is it compatible with forge

Please add many shark species like great whites, bulls, makos, reefs, black tips, white tips ,blues, hammerheads, tigers and sand tigers what is minecraft with water mobs without predatory sharks

Will this mod be up to date and work with forge when finished ? Please it would be great if so

Yes, it is Forge compatible (still uses Modloader, but Forge works just as well). We intend to add some danger to the water, and sharks are an easy way to do that. When all is said and done I would like to have multiple food webs established for the different areas of the game, so they will be self-regulating, for the most part, so there will be a variety of predatory fish and territorial fish, in addition to the "ooh look at that" fish.

To answer further questions about the mod and it's future, I'll post them here and on each page from here on out.

    Slappy's FAQ
    1) Update! When is it coming out? Will you please update?
    A) I'm working on it. DJ's working on it. We have lives, however, and as adults we cannot simply shrug off responsibility for a mod. We have a sorta-mostly-not-quite working version for 1.4.7, it works well enough but needs lots of tweaking and entirely new plants, so there's gonna be a wait.

    2) Will you add mob X?
    A) Yes. No. Maybe. DJ has some solid ideas of what she wants to do but we are open to suggestions. There are too many of these for us to reply to them all. Several mobs DJ wanted to do didn't make it into the first release because frankly, if I hadn't stopped her, she'd still be making them. There are certain mobs I want to do, but you have to remember that within the realm of Minecraft, complex is killer. If we can't make it nice within a reasonable time frame it's unlikely that it will make it in.

    3) Fishing?! I WANT FISHING! Can you catch the fish? I have an idea for fishing!
    A) Fishing is awesome, I agree. Can I do it? Short answer, no. Long answer, yes, but... I'll get into that in a separate paragraph. Current plans are to simply make it so you can catch the fish by right clicking them with an item.

Right, so, fishing. A few options here, one of which is to modify the existing rod or make one like it, and add our fish as conditional catches. This could be simple enough, detecting the biome you're in, I suppose. Far from ideal though. Option 2 - Same as the prior option, except it detects when fish are near and lets you catch fish from that list. Less simple, still boring. I could make it despawn random fish of type X when you catch one, but it's still boring and far from accurate. Option 3 - New rods with full crafting system similar to the fishing mod, with lures and a few types of bait, full on Breath of Fire awesome fishing style. This is what I would do, if I were to do it. Terribly complex. Potential for me to succeed particularly low. Not gonna happen.

    4) DJ will you make my textures? Kerik can you teach me to mod? Will you be part of my mod team?
    A) No. DJ is busy enough with textures and models for our mod. I have enough on my hands teaching myself so no, I can't teach you. There are plenty of tutorials on here you can use, but if they don't help you I certainly can't. Last one should be answered by the first two.
    5) What version of Minecraft is this for? Is it Forge compatible?
    A) Released version is 1.2.5, current beta is 1.4.7. Yes it's Forge compatible, yes it works with modloader, yes it works alongside Tekkit, so it probably works just fine and dandy with everything else. The release version will (ideally) be for whatever the current full release of Minecraft is (no snapshots!).

    5) Can I have a beta?
    A) Nope. You can't have the source either, if you need it you can't use it.

    6) Can I eat the fish?
    A) All fish will drop fish, so yes, yes you can. Larger fish will drop more.fish, but they will still drop fish.

    7) Can I feed the fish?
    A) Possibly? Wouldn't be hard to implement something akin to the koi and the flakes, dunno if it's important though.

Taking some time to actually play Minecraft... sort of. Feels empty without the plants, so I think when DJ gets back we're gonna have to get some new ones in game. I'll post some screens if I have anything neat to show off and anyone is interested.

The current public release is for 1.2.5, the current unplayable half working bugfest test version is currently 1.4.7. If you are trying to use the version in this thread with Minecraft 1.3.x or 1.4.x it will not work.

I actually looked into making a fishing mod at one point... legit fishing, not "cast a rod and an invisible fish bites". I got them to randomly attract to the rod if you had the right type of bait, but I couldn't get the rod to snag them that way. It's something I'm still interested in, but the default Minecraft fishing isn't something I'm interested in expanding, strictly speaking.
