Especially these things are to be designed in SMP environment. The flicking of redstone signals is already a framerate killer for SMP and I don't think the developer wants more things to be calculated for no meaning.
There is one thing I think the texture of the piston is somewhat incorrect - blocking water. Shouldn't it be sealed to the side so that water would not passed through/destroy the piston?
Anyway I am having lots of idea on how to play with the piston. Piston that cover the light source, piston that pump water upstream, piston that...
My 2 cents.
ya maybe hopefully not
the mod is better (at this time period maybe not when its done) for the following reasons
1)thickness the bar that pushes the top needs to be thicker
2) doesn't launch dirt gravel and player/mobs (although it can be used for other things)
3) can probably catch on fire(this is just an assumption since the top part is all wood
4) the modded version can push chests and stuff like that
things this one has better
1) looks
2) .................
so ya
i think i will stick with the mod i want to here more about the adventure mode -

never seen one like that before
when ever i use pistons i always feel i have to make perfectly hidden doors
like when i saw this i just thought well if he makes all 4 of those sticky pistons makes them all 1 deeper into the sides
and attach dirt to them it would be a lot more hidden
but not everyone is me

you can save time by
useing mc edit to clone buildings
if you do that though dont put to may of the same building in the same spot
dont forget to make all the buildings fit the same theme
do not clone the main buildings ie town hall church stuff like that
judgeing by the look of your castle id suggest a Norman theme
something like this

i cant seem to get a collector working properly (not a big deal)
how it works well when a squid spawns in it they swim out of the current and fall to there deaths
if they spawn to low to die due to falling they land on cactus and die from cactus damage
it works quite well
but for somereason squids dont spawn when im near it
