I'm assuming that he meant that his 280X is one of the best GPUs compared to other 280X's, not overall. It seems to bench pretty well, although no one really does use UserBenchmark

    Quote from AyyMD»

Indeed that is what I meant.

    Fair enough.

Apparently I have a nuclear submarine workstation.

I'm particularly showing off the just the GPU, because I have one of the best ones ever benched on UserBenchmark.

Err...yeah...sorry to break it to you, but all that says is that not many people use UserBenchmark. The 280X is mid-ranged at best nowadays.

Though it's a rather nice thing to get for free. You have nice friends.

You should. It's not even a matter of "talking to the top looks cool", you're literally using it wrong. Blue designed the microphone diaphragm to point to the front, so if you're talking to the front the acoustics are actually skewed and anything you record won't come out quite as it should.

And if you don't care about that, then, well, you don't need a $130 microphone.

This thread is literally pointless. You don't have a topic worth discussing or a question that needs to be answered, so why exactly would you bump it?

I have a CX430M powering my Athlon 5350+R7 240 system and it hasn't given me any issues. Anecdotal, of course.

Yeah, from what I can tell, CX units will work completely fine for their rated wattage and have all of the necessary protections to be a functional power supply. However, if you look a bit deeper in, they're not great (ripple and voltage stability can't compete with higher end units, etc) but those don't have too much of an effect on their function.

First off, I don't see why this warranted a thread. The most I would have done is posted an update to the "show your system" thread, but even that's pushing it for something as simple as a new mic.

Second, as Jontecool said, you're supposed to be talking to the front, not the top.

Is that a shotgun shell behind the mic?

I'll let the younger members grapple with how anybody could have possibly not grown up using a PC from the age of 3 or whatever. Get off my lawn and such.

More true than I'd care to admit heh. First used a computer when I was 5, thoroughly engrossed when I was 7. My brother got a tablet when he was 4.

To be fair I don't really see why it's a bad thing if parents are responsible with managing a kid's use. My brother has access to a grand total of 3 educational apps for 30 minutes a day total, plus 15 minutes of Minecraft once he finishes his homework.

CPU Performance is perfectly relevant to a computers performance that makes no sense whatsoever.

Clock speed is not the only factor that corresponds to CPU performance, that's what we're getting at. IPC is MUCH more important and Intel CPUs have good enough of IPC that they can make up for lower clocks.

I was aiming towards something like how some minecraft servers have that "online or offline" thing in http code. Ive seen some people on minecraftforums with that in their signature.

HTTP is a protocol, i.e. a set of rules for how information is sent and received. It is not a language in any way. HTML is usually regarded as the corresponding language to HTTP, but HTML can't do what you're asking. You need something like PHP to query your server if you want to check if it's online.

Should i wait for the 1070?

Yes, if not Polaris. The new architectures seem to be quite a large jump. It's not unrealistic to say you'd be spending the same for close to double the performance.
    Quote from TotallyNotCarl»

If you're willing to wait a few months sure.

Nvidia says that the 1080 will be out before May is over, and the 1070 will be out sometime during June. Not really a long wait.

I've never hit 16GB doing either.

I don't know what exactly you're doing, but I'm not even sure that Movie Maker is able to use 16GB.

It's the same idea as you don't instantly jump to dual 22 core Xeons just because you might need them to render faster.

Speaking of Win10, and to try to avoid my post causing a ridiculous derailment- It has been noted that new hardware would only be supported on Windows 10; Microsoft stated this with regards to CPUs beyond 2017. But I wonder if this applies to other devices? If we put a 1080 in a Windows 7 system, for example, would it no longer receive updates once that delay expires?

My guess is that it would be up to Nvidia to create drivers for Windows 7, and Nvidia probably doesn't want to lose that portion of its userbase. The announcement I remember seemed to only apply for Skylake. Plus, if I remember correctly Intel wasn't too happy that Microsoft made such a decision.

I promised myself never to go to nvidia

    Huh? Why not?

There's no reason not to if they have better price to performance and/or any of the other reasons. Of course, we'd have to wait for the 490 to see who actually wins this generation, but there's no reason to limit yourself to AMD.
