Hey,
So the mod has been started but been delayed due to a complete rewrite(Into Forge). But at the moment you can apply for being a tester. If you are interesting in helping the mod be codded and become a developer then please pm Me so that I can talk details with you.
The mod was based of the book and not the movie due to the movie SUCKING. Anyway the list of things that will be added is below and if you ever want to you can suggest things in the comments(I Read All Comments).
Thanks

Catmando posted a message on Differentiating and Defining the Faculties of the MindThe last time I had a discussion about the faculties of the mind, my opponent merely said he was stupid, therefore he didn't have an intellect. Now, I'm willing to accept that premise (not because of its imitation of Socrates), but not the conclusion. It was only my opponent's superstitious and dogmatic adherence to scientism and an incoherent reductive materialism that forced him to say that; he refuses to accept the existence of anything other than the physical brain. But I'm getting off topic... my point here is that I want you all to not be him.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
Firstly, what I mean by faculties is that which the mind can do. This can be conscious or unconscious: our internal monologue is an example of a conscious faculty, while our ability to look at 5·4 and know, seemingly instantly, that its product is 20, is really more unconscious than anything, a memory recall that we did not necessarily deliberately do.
These faculties can also be well-defined or ill-defined. Our ability to recall memories can be neatly categorized most of the time: conscious and unconscious, near-instant or requiring effort, able to fade over time or be inhibited by our state, including brain injury, and so on. On the contrary, our will is very ill-defined: try getting just five philosophers to agree on the terms "free" and "will", much less "free will" itself. You won't succeed.
Now, this is the best list that I can come up with offhand:- emotion
- intellect
- memory
- cognition
- imagination
- will
- internal monologue
I considered putting perception in that list, but perception is not really a faculty of the mind; rather, it's mostly handled by the brain. The senses sense whether we want them to or not, so I can't merely will my eyes to stop, although I can close them (but even still, I'm merely seeing my eyelids!). The brain just keeps on processing this perception data regardless of what my mind is busying itself with. Now I don't want to sound totally dualistic, but I do want to make clear that our minor control over our bodily functions like perception does not entail that they are faculties of the mind, only that the will does in some sense exercise control over them, not unlike how the existence of reflex reactions does not entail the unconscious mind alone is in control of the extension of my knee).
The intellect seems to be often confused with imagination, but there are important differences. Do me a favor and visualize a chiliagon for me. Got it? Now imagine a circle beside it. Okay, now differentiate them for me with your imagination alone. You can't. The difference is absurdly tiny. But it's easy to grasp the concept of a chiliagon distinctly from a circle. Rene Descartes actually used this same example (although I got wind of the argument from a different source entirely):
Quote from Sixth Meditation »When I have a mental image of a triangle, for example, I don't just understand that it is a figure bounded by three lines; I also "look at" the lines as though they were present to my mind's eye. And this is what I call having a mental image. When I want to think of a chiliagon, I understand that it is a figure with a thousand sides as well as I understand that a triangle is a figure with three, but I can't imagine its sides or "look" at them as though they were present (...) Thus I observe that a special effort of mind is necessary to the act of imagination, which is not required to conceiving or understanding (ad intelligendum); and this special exertion of mind clearly shows the difference between imagination and pure intellection (imaginatio et intellectio pura).
Emotion is also sometimes confused with perception, but they are distinct as well, and not only because I claim emotion is a faculty of the mind. Emotion is on some level a reaction to stimuli, almost like pain is, hence why we call pain a feeling and sadness a feeling; fundamentally, there's some similarity here or the same words wouldn't be used. It's not a mere coincidence; I believe Wittgenstein called stuff like this “family resemblances”? But I digress. The point is, we cannot equate emotion with, say, pain, it's similar but more than that. For one thing, emotion results from cognition as well. If I think about one thing too long I get bored or sad or whatever; if I push it from my mind, the feeling can fade (suggesting an effect by the will, something not present when we are experiencing pain).
Oh, and a quick note about imagination. I tend to think about it in a sort of Aristotelian-Thomistic form-combining type way; there are other good ways to understand the imagination, though I'm not going into them. It's easy to imagine a cat, don't you think? But I wonder, are you imagining a black cat? Maybe—I know it's what I imagine first, since I have a pet cat, rubbing my leg and purring at the moment. But black isn't necessarily attached to the concept of the cat. We can grasp the concept of a cat distinctly from all of the different colors, for example, that it has, but when we imagine it we have to give it characteristics like that. And of course with our imagination we can combine the concepts in ways we don't actually have images for. I can imagine a bright blue cat, but I don't think I've ever seen one. And if I have, I can just imagine it a bit darker. I really doubt I've seen two distinct blue cats with identical surroundings before in my life. Ergo the imagination can create new concepts, as images, based on though somewhat indirectly from things we've experienced.
Of course now that I think about it, the intellect can combine concepts in new ways too, but it lacks the intuition of the imagination. The imagination is really good at forming images—but as far as I know, my intellect doesn't get much practice conceiving of blue cats on a regular basis—rather, its job is to “let me know” that such things are indeed conceivable at all. Note the quotes; I have no idea where my self-awareness fits into all this, but I imagine that it is a very high-level function of the mind, perhaps the highest level. There are plenty of thoughts to share on self-awareness, no doubt, but none of mine are original and I'm by no means well-read about this so I'm not going to go off on that tangent.
That's about enough rambling for one day. But what is the point of this thread? Well, I want us to discuss the mind, and everything related to it, hopefully based on what I've written here (since this took more than a little while), but feel free to branch off a bit. No discussions revolving around denying the existence of the mind as distinguishable from the brain, please. Things are much more interesting when we accept a few sensible assumptions and work from there. Oh, and discussion of the mind as it relates to the brain is fair play too. I'm interested in seeing some unique dualistic conceptions here, if possible.

Aiyoki posted a message on Placing Logs HorizontallyStairs are placeable in a variety of directions based on which way you place them.Posted in: Suggestions
Why then are Log blocks so static? The cut portions of log blocks always face in a vertical position.
I suggest that log blocks should be placed in such a way where the cut portion of a log always faces you at the instance of placing.
The benefits of this are mostly in decoration but it opens up a lot of possibilities:
Aesthetic Examples
-horizontal log beams
-Log piles (lumber camp) and other such designs.
-Log cabins (anyone?)
-Anything else you can think of?
More aesthetic examples: Submitted by ChadGarion25- Log bridges across chasms and rivers
- Battering rams
- Floating docks
- Coco bean farms
- Nurse logs (not natural, man made, but aesthetically pleasing)
- Dirt retention walls
- Aesthetic saw mill (like from skyrim)
- Frogger game (with the logs floating in the water as you jump from log to log)
- Log fort drawbridge
- Make a sideways forest like in (watch at your own peril, I cry for some reason)
- Make log rides like the ones at Disney Land
-Naturally generated fallen trees
-Cannons
-Rafts/boats
-Targets
Visual concepts: (Compliments of ChadGarion25)
I'm on a boat
My take on a log cabin, complete with brick fire place, lumber storage, and birch garden.
New Horizontal log creation, Desert Caravan Stormwatch Tower.
Reinforced with heavy logs, this sand structure stands high on the flat desert horizon, watching for incoming sandstorms and bandit raids to aid local trade caravans in their journey.
More Creations. A jungle look-out platform for Tarzan enthusiasts:
When height = Survival in the jungle, you can't go wrong with lashing together logs to make yourself a jungle platform up in the trees.
My attempt to make birch logs look good by making a rounded Tipi structure. It failed on the outside, inside looks fine. I attribute it more to birch being ugly as sin rather than my project.
I'll keep these following ones in spoilers until I can figure out the thumbnail thing...
Quote from ChadGarion25
Here is your log cabin framework, Abe would be so proud. It's hella hard to make because all I did was re-texture the furnace in game to make the illusion of logs, so I can't just place them on one another. Obviously the real thing won't be so restrictive.
Additional changes that may be needed
Quote from ChadGarion25Something I notice is this idea would require a slight texture modification to existing wood. The way it is now, the logs kind of meld together and looks like a solid entity. All that needs to be done is darken or lighten the side boarder of the log texture square so they look separate.
Some comments made that may be able to help clarify some confusion:
Quote from kingzut
I was gonna say something about this..but then I realized what you meant..I thought at first you were saying it should always be placed on the side..but I know now you mean it will face...kinda like a piston does..so you can set it different ways...I like it...support.
Mod support (for this suggestion)
(works on 1.2.5): Compliments to Koopinator for the wonderful work on the mod to make this suggestion "unofficially" possible
-Download Link: Download
-Installation (Uses Modloader): Copy the mod files to Minecraft.jar, delete your meta inf folder, enjoy.
-Features:
--Place Log blocks horizontally.
-Notice:
You will need to have modloader set up to run it, but otherwise all you will need to do is drag the contents of the .zip file into your jar. Since it is an early release, YOU SHOULD CREATE A BACKUP IN ORDER TO KEEP YOUR SAVES SAFE. There shouldn't be any major issues, but there are changes made to the pp (BlockLog) class that may affect your old worlds in annoying ways.
PS...
Pictures are worth so many more words than any regular explanation can give and I think that the more pictures we have to support the possibilities of this idea the more people will be able to see how much this is needed!

luckylpf posted a message on Minecraft with a controllerHow to play minecraft with a controllerPosted in: Minecraft Tools
So a recent change in apartment layout has caused me to be without a monitor for a brief time, which as pushed me to use my 42" plasma as a primary screen.
This causes a few problems, one of which is using a keyboard and mouse at my couch. Knowing how much I like to play minecraft this bothered me.
First a few things you need.
1.) A controller, either xbox 360, logitech rumble, or even an old saitek will work as long as it uses USB.
2.) A program called JoytoKey.
I have made a config file to use with JoytoKey using the default key bindings in minecraft.
Both can be found HERE
I have set the sensitivity for the right analog stick to 75% so its fast enough that I can move around without sacrificing accuracy. Lastly I have added a 50% dead zone to both left and right analog sticks so even if your analog stick isn't perfectly centered, which happens a lot on older controllers, it will still work properly without drifting one way or another.
Quick layout for the controller using Xbox jargon.
Left analog stick - Moves character around *LS Button opens f3 tool
Right analog stick - Mouse movement *RS Button opens up the f5 3rd person view
Left trigger - crouch
Left button - list players
Right trigger - left click
Right button - right click
D pad - moves inventory
Back - full screen
Start - Escape / pause
X - No current use so I bound it to middle mouse button so I may use Team Speak while playing
Y - opens inventory
B - drops item
A - jump
This was the most comfortable layout I could produce in the hour playing it, but if you aren't happy with it you can change the layout in the config of JoytoKey.
Even if nobody but me uses this, again I thought I'd share it.
MOD I'm not sure if I already made this thread here so please delete if you find a duplicate. -

flector posted a message on Light Sensing done rightSo I have seen a lot of topics about wanting some way of including light sensing into redstone machines, because of the endless possibilities. I think I have the best way of doing it:Posted in: Suggestions
Craft something that, when placed, looks similar to a repeater in size and shape, but can send redstone current in all 4 horizontal directions. It might have something in the middle that looks light-related, I don't know, that's not important. But what is important is how it works: The device sends out a redstone current for a number of blocks equal to the light detector's light level. So if it is in a light level of 11, redstone current from it would only go 11 blocks.
This would work well because 1) light level only goes up to 15 (which is also the maximum redstone will be carried by any other source), so circuits size wouldn't have to dramatically change and 2) with this you can detect when the light level changes from any light level.
So lets say you want to see when the light level outside gets dark enough for mobs to spawn (<8). Place the light detector down, and wire it to an inverter 8 blocks away. If mobs cannot spawn, the redstone torch will be off. If they can, it will be lit. If you want, let the redstone torch from the inverter run to a noteblock so you can hear when it gets dark out.
And since everybody loves crafting recipes, here's one:
where red mushroom is redstone and sponge is either glowstone dust or glowstone. I don't really care as much about the crafting recipe, just how the block works. - To post a comment, please login.

I believe we have plans of doing all of your sugestions. Also, yes, it should work in SMP. Obviously though, the server needs to have it installed in order for it to do anything (just in case you were not aware).
EDIT: Except for quests. I'm not so sure about that.

Teaser trailer here:
More images in spoiler:
Texturepack: Not required, if using one, keep in mind any TEKKIT blocks will not have the same style.
Mods: TEKKIT, it is very easy to install, in fact, once you run the installer, it does everything else for you. I can almost guarantee you will not only use it for this map, you will want to keep playing with it. It is an astounding well compiled modpack, and it even has its own folder, so you can play normal Minecraft and TEKKIT without switching out a bunch of files each time. Get it HERE.
EDIT: Note, now it is neccessary to use the TEKKIT Classic pack, NOT TEKKIT Lite.
DOWNLOAD: HERE
Click on 'File' then 'Download' in the dropdown menu.
Download comes with a zipped folder, unzip it and you get two folders, one is the map (CryotekEscape) and the other contains the notes in notepad format (NotesForCrytekEscape). The map should go directly into your saves folder, and you can read the notes as instructed by signs in the map itself (they will say something along the lines of "Read note #1" or "Read note #2" and so on).
Story: You are employee #49 at Cryotek Industries, and you have been abandoned. Someone decided to play a prank and set both your friend's and your cryostasis chambers to sleep for 500,000 nights rather than one, to make you late to work. Normally, a security guard checks each chamber during the daytime, but that night, there was a terrible fire in the factory, and it was abandoned. You and your friend are now stuck around 1,300 years in the future, and you need to find your friend. His chamber opened a while before yours, and he left, knowing there was no food in the facility. Track him down as you head through the post-modern factory of Cryotek Industries.
Video (courtesy of Ryan Edwards):
Other videos (including sequel to video above)
Tips below (not cheating if you look, you probably have to if you've never used TEKKIT):
1. Right click a computer to interact with it.
2. Hit the Esc key to exit a computer's GUI.
3. All commands entered into computers MUST have exact spelling and capitalization.
4. When activating the second computer, you will need to start it up again after turning off the emergency stop.
5. There are 4 rooms in the dark matter production room (not including the entrance).
6. If you fall down through the holes in the bridge, don't freak out. There's a catwalk below.
7. If you die and spawn on the surface, just step on the pressure plate next to the blue-ish block, it will teleport you to the starting room.
8. More later if anyone needs tips on beating it. Just ask, and I'll respond as quickly as possible.

As our team of unlikely protagonists rest; The warrior, the thief, the assasin, the wraith, and the scientist; all is not well in the night. We look down into the kings chambers, where the king sits happily on his throne, relieved his wife has finally been healed. He is far too excited to go to bed, as is the new lord regent, who steps quietly into the room. The king is awake though, and sees him. "Lord-regent, what is it you require? What are you doing up so late?" "My lord," the lord regent says bitterly, as if he had just bitten into a sour, rotten apple, crawling with worms and maggots. "Are you familiar with the term 'regicide?' It involves the murder of overlords, tyrants, dictators... Kings." He finishes the sentence as he pulls out a dagger and stabs it into a table." The king is shocked and calls out to the two guards by the door, but they do not react. They were never loyal to the king, only to The Council of Five. "You'll never get away with this, you know!" The king states angrily, his fist clenched, smashing against the hard oak of his throne's arm. A bead of sweat forms on his brow and trickles downward as the lord regent speaks the last words the king of Uru' baen will ever hear: "Oh, I have the feeling we will." The lord regent states calmly as he throws the dagger with incredible precision and speed, across the room, piercing the king's heart.
"You know what to do. Dispose of the body. No blood gets anywhere."
The guards walk slowly up the aisle, towards the now past king. The dagger was enchanted to harden any blood that touches it, so they leave it in his body as they drag him off. They put him on a stretcher and use magic to conceal both him and the stretcher. As they walk down the stairs to where they plan to dispose of him, all anyone sees are two guards walking in unison, about five feet apart from each other. Odd, but no one had any reason to suspect them. They head to a basement that's been secretly dug, and filled with wine barrels. They take the lid off one of the casks, number seven, and lay the king inside, where a small grave has been dug. They then put a cover on the bottom of the chamber, making it appear and function as a normal wine barrel. They put the cover back on, and walk back up the stairs. Their job has been done.
If anyone were to discover the basement, they would have no reason to believe it was anything other than a hidden wine supply. But no one did.

No. It most certainly did not. I'm not going to dislike you for liking the movie however, because in reality, it was a good movie, it just completely diverged from the books and could have been much better. So that's why we don't like it, in case you were wondering.

I really like these ideas, they seem like the kind of thing Dinnerbone would like to work on. The reason I left the cake idea in the quote is because I really don't like this particular one. I don't really get it in that, I understand what would happen, I just don't think it's particularly funny, I guess. I just don't get the point, I suppose. Second, this would actually be pretty hard, it's not as easy as you might think to make something render like that, and it would be especially wasted for something that only shows for a few seconds. But other than that, great job, and I hope these get implemented.
