I was wondering what the difference was between adding a "jar mod" and adding a "loader mod" in the instance edit screen.
For some mods, adding the file via "add jar mod" caused a crash, whilst adding it via "loader mod" boots minecraft fine. Is it alright if I just forego the "add jar file" command altogether and use "add loader mod" for all of my mods?
Checking the instance folder, adding via loader mod just adds it as you would if you didn't have MultMC (put mod file inside mod folder), whereas the add jar file command places a renamed mod file inside a jar folder.
Jar mod are mods that need to go into the minecraft.jar. Mojang says nothing really should go in here unless the mod says so, like Optifine or Forge.
Loader mods are mods that run through forge. You'll want to always run your mods through here unless its supposed to be a jar mod, like mentioned before.
So I changed my name and now I can't use my name..

You changed your name, and now your name doesn't work?
If you're talking about your cape, you need to login here: http://optifine.net/login using the email when you purchased the cape. Then change your username there.
When trying to install both forge 11.14.0.1299 (1.8-Recommended) and OptiFine 1.8.0 HD U C7, even if I install Optifine last, they both create 2 separate profiles. How can I play them both at the same time?
Download OptiFine 1.8.0_HD_U_C7 (fixed black outlines on transparent objects when AA/AF is active, compatible with Forge #1281):Download, mirror (30.01.2015)
About Mineraft.jar it doesn't exist anymore hence why the new setup was created within minecraft. Its called the MODS folder not sure why you'd need to delete meta-inf...
1. is there an installer-version of optifine 1.7.2?
2. Which files are changed by optifine? So it it possible, to copy them over/add them manually? Are the files just added into the jar-file?
thanke you!
1. All versions of Optfine (at least 1.5+ which I have used) should have the installer if you double click them.
2. Yes, you can install it manually if you delete META-INF and drag the files into the minecraft.jar, but its unnecessary if you use the installer.
This support sucks and no one helps.. Looks like I lost my cape for good.
You're not entitled to a cape. Its a gift for supporting the mod, I hope you know that.
Anyways the only way to get your cape back if you changed your username without doing any research first, is to login using the email when you bought the cape here: https://optifine.net/login If you forgot your password, click that link. If someone else bought the cape for you then contact them. If all else fails, you must donate again to get the cape. Supporting a mod you use all the time is a great way to thank the mod developer for his time and effort!
In about a year and a half, Nvidia is going to be two generations of cards ahead, and that won't matter. Now, the 850M is pretty weak, and is less powerful than the 750 equivalent on the desktop. Also I recommend getting a desktop over a laptop any day unless you game a lot on the go.
Quick question before downloading- is this mod allowed on most servers? I am thinking of starting a Minecraft clan, and I want to have the best performance possible when in the middle of PvP, so I have been considering this mod to help with that. Some people say that Optifine is allowed on 99% of all servers, but I just want to check and see if anyone has been banned on a server because of having this mod.
Some (very few) don't like the zoom feature. Which doesn't make sense to me because you can turn down the FOV to do the same thing in vanilla.
My Optifine cape was purchased for me by somebody else, who I no longer have any contact with. Any way for me to get it back, since I changed my name? :x
Kinda out of luck unless you contact him/her. You could get another for $10. Its really nice to support the mod maker for his hard work!
I love this launcher. It's awesome. I know that they all have different save directories, but a cool feature would be to have all of them share the saves directory in .minecraft. I like all my saves in one place. Keep it up with the launcher! Also, a small (non-serious) bug is that the vanilla instance from FTB shows up as broken. Not sure why.
It was an idea to add a save manager, but was dropped because different mods and different versions would break the saves.
hi which version do i use for MC 1.7.2 - (OptiFine 1.7.2_HD_U_D5)? Can i add them into the jar-file and delete the meta-inf-folder?
You don't have to delete anything. If you're using Forge, drag and drop the mod into your mods folder. If not just double click it and it will install itself. I suggest atleast using 1.7.10 because most all mods are updated to that.
unless you get permission and I have seen this in PUBLIC modpacks before unless you get permission and I have seen this in PUBLIC modpacks before
Last time I checked, sp614x doesn't go around handing it to everybody. Even the biggest modpacks like Tekkit couldn't get Optifine. Those were probably put there illegally.

Put the Optifine jar in the mods folder.

Do you read?

The OP clearly says 1.8, so why would you try 1.8.1? Every mod only works with the version it says it works with.

Karyonix said he's going to fix most of the bugs before updating to 1.8.1.

Read here on how to install mods into the jar: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Mods/Installing_mods#Installation_for_the_new_launcher
Don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

No, because it overwrites some of the files. You have to delete the jar file and let the launcher redownload it.

You don't need a plugin for TMI anymore. As long as you are OP, the mod will work fine with your server.
