i just realized.... people keep whining about lapis having little uses and i just realized.... it doesnt need more uses!
Who's whining? You're in a suggestion forum so I don't really understand why you feel the need to input on this matter. All I see in this topic are suggestions.
How about being the first block (lapis block) that can be enchanted? Maybe, just maybe, you could put it on the enchantment table and get a random enchantment like a floating platform that would float up a certain amount of blocks (like an elevator) based off the enchantment level. I like the idea of having the option to enchant blocks (only certain blocks) for new functions along with the traditional means of enchanting.
Wouldn't it also be sweet if we could craft mechas and ride around blasting things? And dinosaurs! And these little fairies but they're really mean, and if there's cake why isn't there pudding? Hey, how come there isn't everything in Minecraft?
Randomly generated wizard/necromancer towers, populated with skeletons and zombies that come back to life Dark Souls style if you don't have an enchanted weapon with a boss at the top. That'd be cool.

There is a mushroom biome very close to spawn, just follow the coast but don't go into the jungle, go the other way. Let me know if you find it.just spawn, and follow the right coastline and you'll find the biome very close to spawn.
I had a world a while ago where I had established a base, outposts, tons of potions and enchantments, full diamond armor, the works. I found a stronghold and ender portal, and I had collected enough eyes to open the portal. I jumped in and the ender dragon immediately swooped in on me and knocked into the void. I didn't have the heart to go back... and then I accidentally deleted the world.
I thought the same thing, but while exploring a cave I didn't realize my iron armor had degraded. While fighting skeletons some of my armor broke and basically caused my instant death. Sure I was being careless, but I don't think hardcore is easy by any means. But I see what you're saying OP.
Sulfurous springs, which would be part of world generation. You can find sulphur deposits from mining the dry bed once you have blocked the water source.
Radioactive ore. People hate this idea because it doesn't feel "minecrafty" but I love it. I think it would open up new posibilites. Possibly by having to introduce new ores, like lead in order to make a lead suit of armor to harvest the radio active ore. blah blah blah
Yeah well its still not going to be automatic, you get hungry fast by swinging anything around, you'll just die of starvation over time if you set this up and sleep.
Face it, xp harvesting can't be "Automatic" as you need to physically hurt them to get the xp.
I havent figured out how to make you eat automatically, but I have figured out how to swing your pick axe AUTOMATICALLY.
It is automatic in every way, you just can't do it forever.
You could also look up a program called autofire. Was used way back in everquest for rangers, since they had to click a button to shoot an arrow (no autoattack for them), so someone had a program that you set a key as the on/off key, and another key as the use key, and set a delay in milliseconds. Just switch your attack to something other than a mouse click, and turn the program on. Would stand there for as long as you wanted, repeatedly and quickly mashing your attack button.
