One idea i got when I was reading other peoples suggestions is electricity.
Not the "magic" one from redstone but the kind of electricity we all use today.
Eksample: You have a natural waterfall or one you have made and beside/under it you have a turbine made from f.eks. steel. The electricity goes then via (perhapse) redstone or some kind of wire to you cave, house or castle and then in to a lamp which give you lots of light.
Please comment if you think this is a good or bad idea...
(Im not english so sorry if the are any wrong spellings)
The thing is that you now have little need for redstone.
I mean; I have over hundred of them and the only useful thing i think i can use them for is to make a compass...
But with redstone rails redstone would be realy usefull.

The cart will gain power/ speed when pasing one of these tracs, or you culd just make the hole trail of redstone rails.
I would say the rails would look like this all like the regular tracks only redstone instead of steel, or something else that you think look better.
please comment if you guys think this is a good or bad idea.
