Your poll is obviously very one sided. I did not like the combat changes and I don't PVP. I think its stupid to change the way a game plays when it is several years out of beta. They really should add an option to disable the combat changes.
There has never been a version of minecraft before 1.9 that added a feature that ruined the game for people. Adding new items, new worlds, redstone, new land generation, villagers, temples, etc Did not ruin any type of gameplay. IF you hated every one of those things you could still play the game you wanted to play You don't have to enter the Nether or Enderworl. Nothing forces you to build redstone stuff, or to mess with villagers etc. Again you don't have to explore water temples, jungle temples, etc.
Unless your simply building in creative mode this update forces game changing features on us. If you wanted to completely change the genre of the game from a casual sandbox building game to a hardcore PVP fest you should have announced and done so when it was still in beta. I really REALLY hope they add an option to disable this new combat system. I can't even kill a damn creeper without a bow now something that was not an issue before. My friends and I play on a private vanilla survival server and have done so since 2011. None of us like the combat changes.
Problem with going back to 1.8.9 is your not going to get any of the bug fixes. For example you can't keep a horse on a lead with 1.8.9 because when you leave the area and come back the leads have popped off the horse. There are tons and tons of bugfixes you will never have fixed unless you keep updating.
It seems ashame so many people have to be content with never seeing a minecraft update again because of one game breaking feature added to the game. If your going to update a game and change its genre you should do it during the Beta not years after its official release.
So I have been playing minecraft since the Beta (I think Beta 1.4 the update right before weather came out). Anyways I can honestly say there has not been a single update that ever bothered me. Sure some of them added features I never really cared about but nothing ever took the fun out of the game.
Well congratulations 1.9 you have earned the achievement of making the first update that officially ruins the game for me. I despise the new combat system. Jumped into my world and almost died to a spider and a skeleton. There really needs to be an option to disable or enable this new combat system. I have a couple of friends who play with me on a private server and they feel about the same way. We don't PVP its strictly PVE vanilla. Always liked having a little bit of challenge but not this.
I just don't think its good business to completely change such a major feature in a game that has been out for YEARS. Adding new items here and there is great optional game mechanics isn't bad either. Have changed this from a relaxing sandbox building game to an action hack and slash style game.
I know we always have the option to go back to 1.8.9 but then we will have no more bug fixes, no more content, no more nothing!
This is the first update I have absolutely hated. How many years has this game been out? Now they want us to completely learn how to play it? The new combat is horrible.
My friend an I run a 1.8 vanilla minecraft server. I bought it for $24 a year and its a lowly 256 meg server. Nether of us have had any problems with the 1.8 update. In fact I have noticed since the update the mobs are easier to hit because they don't jerk around as much. The only problem we have had is his older laptop does not seem to run the game as well now.
So my friend and I run a simple vanilla Minecraft server. IT is a cheapy $24 a year from one of the many hosts out there. There is nothing special about it. WE have had this server about 6 months and neither of us has told or advertised it to anyone. Recently I have noticed on the console there have been probably 6 to 10 unique names daily trying to access our server. I have it set up with a whitelist but still I don't understand how so many different people have found our server address and even more importantly why so many people are trying to access it?
Just thought Id ask to see if anybody else has run into an issue like this?
So my friend and I have a SMP server going with the latest version of minecraft (not snapshot version). We have a fairly large rail system that is basically cobblestone suspended above the ground with torches on the sides. We have had this server about 3 months and it is vanilla no mods or plugins. I logged in last night to find the rail tore up and the torches connecting to them uprooted as well. ITs not the whole rail just a random amount every 2 to 5 squares. Everything else on the map seems to be fine other than the torches and rail.
Any idea what would cause this? There is no way any water could have fell on them. Neither one of us has logged into it much recently I don't know if this would cause problems or not.
I had this happen to me once. I think to fix it I used an offline editor and just changed something silly like my starting location or something like that. They started showing up again after that though.
I have noticed recently while trying to build in a swamp area that the slimes noise seems to be really off. I mean it is to the point it sounds like there is a slime right on top of me when they are actually about 30 blocks away. This is really annoying when your trying to build something and all you hear is the irritated sound of a slime that has spawned 30 blocks away and you don't know if its below, or any other direction. Any other enemy in the games ambient noise seems to vary properly depending on how far away it is from you except slimes.
Be awesome if this could get fixed.
Don't know that it matters but this issue was found on my SMP vanilla server. No mods or plugins.
Clearly it will be Minecraft. I just hope he plays long enough to get to night, and screams while dying to monsters. But that would take like 10 minutes wouldn't it? Maybe they could do that and edit it...
I just fear he will punch a few things for a few minutes, accomplish nothing and make the game look un-fun.
First thing I thought is he is going to probably make it look stupid and turn people against it.

Would give them more of a use. I like this idea. ITs not like Leather is exactly hard to come by I don't see anything game breaking about it.

It saddens me so many people like them. Probably the same people who spend $1000 on P2W cellphone games.

The genre changing combat did it for me. Im not a PVP player but I still don't like it at all!
